  1. Wouldn't have the energy or motivation these days Pete . There's more go in a bottle of lemonade .
  2. Must admit it will be nice to have a bit of a cool down. It's been pretty unbearable working outside in the heat. On average I've shifted , mixed up for, and layed about a ton of stone per day . I've been knocking off at 2pm all this week.
  3. Someone said to me once "You're so lucky to work outside during the Summer in the nice weather" Sitting here in my van watching it p,, ss down incessantly I can now think of a suitable response. Two words ending with off.!!!!
  4. I think the reason Eavis has it in June is to give the ground a chance to recover afterwards. But I do agree with you, September would probably be a little more settled.
  5. Sum up month ahead forecast as start = cack middle ==ok end == cack . Weather in this poxy island is just 4 seasons of the same old sh..te with varying degrees of temperature. It's a bl..dy nightmare trying to plan work outside.
  6. After working outside for the best part of 38 years, the weather in this country is best described by one word,.. mediocre. I can count what could be described as good summers since 1976 the year I left school on the fingers of two hands. Maybe others will disagree, but you tend to remember crap years when they have cost you money.
  7. Always feel a certain level of disappointment when we get a poor summer, hopefully this one will pull something out of the bag. Autumn and Winter I expect crud .
  8. I'll second that, after 14 months of pure misery, just when we could really use some decent weather, we get subjected to this useless crock of crap. You really couldn't make it up.
  9. When the sun has made an appearance the sweater has been off Pete, as long as it's dry I'm happy.
  10. I must admit I'm getting pretty cheesed off with it now, trying to build things like this is bl...dy hard work in the rubbish.
  11. Thought I'd fell asleep in May, and woke up in October . Vile weather.
  12. Spring as a season is vastly overrated in my book, it teases you with warm weather one day, only to throw you back into winter the next. In other words it promises you the earth , and half the time delivers f...k all.
  13. Must be warm under those Polytunnels Pete, I've been working in my shirt sleeves the past few days, building a natural stone wall . This has got to be better than rain hammering down the whole time.
  14. Must admit I'm not complaining at the moment, this dry weather is great for me work wise .
  15. Out of the two transitional seasons, I tend to prefer Autumn, the early months can still be pleasantly warm, whereas Spring tends to tease you with the promise of better things to come before kicking you in the b....cks once again.
  16. Back to the usual old garbage this coming week , but thankfully it doesn't look to be for very long. High pressure ,and sunshine does me just fine. After the year we've all endured , a good Spring ,and Summer would be just the job.
  17. Always a marked difference during the summer between the S.W and the S.E my missus moved down here 30 odd years ago from London, and she has often remarked about the wetness of the place . Apparently more and more peeps are relocating down here due to Covid, house prices etc, hope they're not expecting too much weather wise . Having lived in Somerset all my 61 years, and worked outside for 30 of them I reckon I've pretty much seen it all with regards to the weather. Lots of times we've had to endure a wet winter, followed by a wet spring followed by a crap cool, wet summer .
  18. As someone who has built houses, you're right about them being unsuited to heatwaves etc. Architects are now obsessed with insulation, it's stuffed in everywhere, in the cavities, under the floor slab, in the roof space. Once upon a time we used to build chiminies, not only did they remove fumes and smoke, they also provided ventilation, What with triple glazing etc people wonder why they get too hot, and can't sleep! The wall cavities not only prevent the ingress of damp, they, also facilitate air circulation Our previous house was built in 1910, our current one in 1983, the older one was much more comfortable to sleep in by a country mile.
  19. Somerset's a strange place as far as the weather goes { Even stranger in Glastonbury unless your a Druid or a Wizzard } I've lived in Cheddar, Wells ,Frome, and now Shepton . What I've noticed is the variations across the county. Cheddar is a wet old place, the rain gets stuck in that valley, and doesn't move all day. Frome on the other hand is totally different, only 30 miles but a lot drier , shielded by the Mendips I suppose. Over at your neck of the woods around Congresbury Yatton , and Clevedon it's at sea level , so snow is harder to get , but drive to the top of Burrington Coombe, and it's another world .
  20. Sounds like you've done alright Pete, we didn't have much at all, but we done alright last time, so swings and roundabouts really. Hope you're keeping ok.
  21. Oh goody, back to wind and rain, I can scarcely contain my excitement
  22. This so called Beast From the East has been more like the knackered old Moggy who has lost it's fangs due to extreme old age in this part of the world, seen more snow on a Christmas Card.
  23. Had my cold and snow fix for this year, a warm, dry March will do me fine
  24. Summers are crap as well, great if you like rain though.
  25. Cold and dry will do me just fine thanks very much, they can shove their wind and rain.
