  1. As much as I like a good cold winter, the timing this year could be disastrous for a lot of people. Sky high energy bills, combined with extra mortgage outgoings could tip many over the edge financially. Unlike many on here, I'm old enough to remember 4 million being out of work, 16 % interest rates, and people posting their house keys back through Building Society letter boxes. Quite a few have a huge shock coming to them I'm afraid, and to be honest a severe winter certainly wouldn't help in the slightest. But as ever, the weather will do as it wishes whatever we want or don't want.
  2. I can remember having an overcoat on top of the bed, the living room was warm , but the rest of the house was like an icebox.
  3. Wood burner is lit, just ticking over, keeping the house at around 20 degrees.
  4. 4 days away booked in Norfolk next week, and the weather looks to be crud. Oh well, it was always going to be iffy this time of year.
  5. I picked up a 6ft length of beech about 4 inches diameter whilst out walking the dog, nice and dry with the bark all but gone. That'll do me for an evening. I'll probably stick the chainsaw in the van and have a drive around over the weekend, I usually pick up a decent van load'
  6. We're thinking along the same lines, heating on for an hour in the morning, then wood burner in the evening. EDF sent me an Email saying that my gas and electricity was increasing by £600 per year. Well, I've got news for them, it damn well wont. There's plenty of wood lying around on verges etc free heat. Bunch of poxy spivs , that's it rant over
  7. There is some truth to what you say, I never felt the cold until having my Heart Attack at 54. I now take 4 tablets a day including Aspirin and Beta Blocker ,and it's totally different. I feel the cold a lot more than I used to . Being nearly 63 probably doesn't help a lot either. I've just lit the wood burner.
  8. We've just started to use our log burner for an hour or so during the evenings. When we start to use it properly, then I'm expecting the same. I don't however pay by direct debit , only for what I use per month. EDF can shove their D/D/S where the sun doesn't shine.
  9. Thinking of lighting up the Wood burner for a couple of hours this evening just to take the chill off.
  10. Down to 19 in the lounge this evening. Give it a week or two and there's a very good chance that I'll be lighting a small fire to keep the chill off.
  11. To my untrained eye it looks like it will be reasonably dry next week with High Pressure ridging in. I need to finish a job, so I'll not be complaining. I've had a week off of work due to one of our lads having had a kidney transplant on Tuesday. I'm hoping we'll be lucky when we go to Norfolk on towards the end of the month as well.
  12. Left school that year, and joined the Army as a boy soldier at Bovington in Dorset. It was hot running around in it that's for sure.
  13. Funnily enough Pete, I've been putting in a bit of practice on the Bass this week during the afternoons that I've been off.
  14. Maybe if some of these brain dead imbeciles were banged up for 12 years minimum for committing Criminal Damage With Intent to Endanger Life, others may have second thoughts. I'll not be holding my breath though, doubtless some bleeding heart would crawl out of the woodwork and start making excuses for them in court, and elsewhere.
  15. Only working until 1pm this week, building some Raised Bed Planters in stone. There is absolutely no shade at all, by then I'm completely knackered.
  16. I must admit it wouldn't do for me , either the excessive heat, sheer boredom , or cheap booze would kill me off.
  17. They've only had 46 years to fix the leaks, and install a national water grid. Still , you can't rush the job.
  18. A nice bit of dry, sunny weather will do me just fine W.T , I've been driven to distraction at work this week.
  19. The definition of frustration = trying to lay a patio, and having the rain p...s ing down on you every 5 minutes.
  20. Sat here with Covid feeling like cr,,p it feels almost cold .
  21. The British Summer, it promises the earth, and delivers Jack s... year after year.
  22. Just looked at the Summer forecast, and wished I hadn't bothered, looks to be a crock of crap to me.
  23. If our summer was sold as a product, most years I'd ask for my money back. Generally it's not worth waiting for.
