  1. I wouldn't worry too much just yet. The MetO 3 month contingency for winter said winter would be mild but unexceptional. Didn't pick up on December craziness, said that the second half of winter would be colder, yet we're into the second half now and places are still recording daily temp records.
  2. I can't believe the Met Office spends all that money on supercomputers when they could just hire you for £30k.
  3. A majority of the female forecasters and a couple of the male ones are far too emotive when describing the weather. Just cut out the subjective words and tell me what the weather's doing, and no you're not my friend.
  4. Warmest day of this young year. Max 14.3C, blue sky and sun broke through after about 1:30pm and made it very spring like. 0.4mm of rain falling between 12am and 4am.
  5. What's "bland"? It rarely seems to be the same for more than 3 days in a row. My girlfriend is from a place that's more or less 30-34C every day of the year and rainier than here. Most people grin and bare it and see places like Scandinavia as exotic. They rely more on aircon than we do on heating. I prefer this state of affairs.
  6. What are you talking about when you say we no longer get seasons and only mild filth? As far as I'm aware the UK hasn't changed climate zone. Temperate maritime = mild with 4 seasons and low extremes. This has been the case for the entire lives of everyone in this forum. Unless you have been living winter through a PC monitor watching US traffic webcams then how can you say otherwise? It can't be THAT bad up north can it? I was lucky enough to have most of the summer off and I went walking 2-3 hours every day and it was lovely 90% of the time. Wore shorts and T-shirts apart from a couple of rainy walks, had a few hot days, rarely below 19C. Never cold, only overheated a couple of times. I cannot do that in Jan, but we have no seasons right?
  7. March highs are on average higher than November here with more sunlight and less rain so I can't agree with thinking of it as "winter". In fact temps are usually closer to April than Feb. There are obviously regional and year-on-year differences, but spring is a transitional time so being cold is part of that. Ultimately it's more often than not, not one of the three coldest months, and here at least has average highs above November too.
  8. Who cares what the weather's like in New York? It's 1000's of miles away in a different climate zone. Might as well curse the Antarctic for being more frozen in summer than we are in winter.
  9. Although it basically says no cold with 2 weeks of Feb remaining.
  10. Same, 3.5C and climbing quickly from -4.6C this morning. Only 2C forecast.
  11. They're so confident of it at the BBC that they won't cash those cheques on their weather page.
  12. Ok after some research it appears to have been 1995.
  13. Does anyone know of a March between 1995 and 1999 that had a decent bit of snow in the first few days? I remember on my birthday at lower school there being quite a bit but don't know which year. The fact that I was small also might be leading me to remember more snow than there was! I have a feeling it wasn't 1999, I was younger I think.
  14. I wish March 2013 had never happened. Not only was it a cold non-event here with just a morning of snow, but ever since every March is hailed as having a good (60%+) chance of being the same. Coldies usually give up a few days into it though!
  15. Would love a nice May this year. Seems ages since we've had a warm one.
  16. Reached near 5C today, 2C higher than forecast. We'll see about the frosts tonight. The weekend was meant to have "hard rural frost" too yet only went below 0 on Sat morning, reaching -1.7C.
  17. It's almost as if he doesn't want people to die from cold and ice.
  18. Well the problem is you don't live in a particularly cold country. I didn't get anything Boxing day 2014...
  19. MetO's 3 month forecast from late November has been pretty good imo.
  20. Yeah I did originally but stupidly wrote it in the wrong section! Fixed now I think. Cheers!
  21. A few cm here last night. Mostly gone by early afternoon though.
