Still sporadic IC lightning here and thunder. Looks like we havent seen the last of it yet.
These storms remind me of buses. You wait absolutely ages for them and then several come at once!

Getting really still here now - bit ominous cod I'm in a field to the north of Harpenden. No thunder yet but might move somewhere a little less open if things kick off here
Yes, I'd recommend finding somewhere safer if things kick off. Got to put your own health first mate. Are there any barns or nearby buildings you can take shelter in?

Apparently there is another storm in n.e bexley right now!
-
Strike rate from the london storm has vastly decreased these past ten minutes. Looks like its fading.
-
Fresh strikes to the north and south of london. Strikes in dover as well. Looks like they are getting in on the action!
-
Now very heavy rain and more frequent loud thunder. A few IC strikes as well (been trying to capture pictures of them on the phone but they arent very frequent and hard to catch) although the bulk of the storm has still not got here yet according to lightningmaps. Hopefully the best is yet to come!

Thunder getting slightly more frequent now and just saw a nice IC strike in the blackness to the south.

This more than makes up for my drought and there's more heading this way ! Oddly though I've hardly seen any lightning but the thunder is almost constant at the moment !
I'm in the same boat at the mo. Heard a few loud rumbles and got some light rain although things are still very calm at the moment but at the time of typing I have still seen no lightning yet. The storm is still approaching though (its very slow moving) and looks pretty active so there's still plenty of time. Hope you see some strikes soon.

Light rain now and more thunder.

This is incredible ! My first proper storm for about 2 years !!
Happy for you Your storm drought has been ended.
Just as I type a very short clap of thunder just sounded.

Near constant rumbles to S and SW of Croydon, every few seconds, looks like some hail judging by radar returns, very active storm
Yep, that cell looks very active. Its heading straight toward me at the moment. I can see fresh strikes towards the rear as well. Does this indicate a MCS I wonder?

Gone incredibly calm here (brixton). No further rumbles of thunder just yet but the breeze has dropped to virtually nothing and temp definitely dropped a few degrees these past few minutes. Increasingly dark towards my south. Calm before the storm (my favourite part)?
-
Just had a loud rumble of thunder!
-
Skies increasingly dark to my south...

Oh wow, that's a lovely sight. Love those dark skies! Don't have a great view south from here, but looking on lightningmaps those cells are getting ever closer and dropping sparks as they go!

Think that bexley storm is going to miss me here in brixton. Loads of cells approaching from the south however. Looks like everythings kicked off around the 12 mark - a lot earlier than I anticipated. As someone else said it feels tropical today!

My Mum just texted me. Apparently we have a bad storm in n.e bexley right now. Thunder and lightning literally above my house. My friend has also had thunder and lightning in sevenoaks. I'm in london at the moment. Typical! Hope it tracks this way.
What are the chances we might get a second storm this evening when I'm home to enjoy it?

A CB is an abbreviation for cumulonimbus (thunder cloud).
Ah right, thanks mate!

Visiting family in Sunderland at the moment, just watched a big CB going up to the west. Looking active over western County Durham now.
Sorry if I'm being thick here but I see people refer to stuff as CB. What is this in weather speak? Is this short for cumulonimbus?

Its looking good so far with some storms already broken out. Feels very warm and humid in london right now with hazy sunshine (although I am inside so it probably feels more humid inside than it actually is). Keeping my fingers crossed we get something in bexley this evening (border of london and kent) but at the same time trying not to build up too much hope incase it doesn't happen.
-
Very, very warm and humid in london at the moment. No idea on temps as I'm inside at the mo, but being this warm already is a good sign. Fingers crossed we get something later on this evening. Good luck to everyone today.

Already 21.3°C. Minimum last night was just 15.3°C, while the maximum yesterday was 28.0°C. Current trends would suggest that I could beat that today.
So I missed an electrified cell by 7 miles yesterday, knowing my luck it will be 3 miles today lol. At least I would be able to hear the thunder in that case.
Even hearing the thunder in the distance is nice. I'd even settle for that right now!

Looks to me like crud, and ideally you want nothing kicking off yet, you will not get the heat required
Hmm, I dunno, there was a lot of crud around at about 5am this morning but when that pic was taken at 7am that was clearing and I noticed some clouds behind which looked like cumulus. Difficult to see through the remains of the crud but I'm sure they were cumulus. Could be wrong though.

Hmm, the forecast for the SE was late afternoon to early evening and we've already had multiple storms develop so you never know. The signs are pointing to it being a good area of convection so far today but whether that remains into this evening we will have to see. I'm hoping for another storm when I get home (I prefer watching them at home for some reason).
I still have infrequent lightning and thunder here in brixton so even if that's the only storm I see today I'm happy with that for a while. :-)
