5.00 for me please. Not convinced forcast easterly will transpire. If the scandi block holds though im sure a reload will be around the corner which will make my prediction way over the top.

Cant see it being as mild as some of u think...we'll see!

10.2 for me please. Warm start, tailing off towards the middle, less said about the end the better.

Not much different to what the sudden appearance of cloud can do on a clear night. There is no reason whatsoever to suppose that the CET as currently calculated artificially inflates mean temperature.
Surely your not telling me that temp fluctuations are as adverse during darkness as they are during daylight.

The argument you posit for 'artificially' elevated max temps might equally well be applied to minima, so it's 'swings and roundabouts' perhaps.
Fair point but surely less wild swings with the minima. Its amazing what a half hour burst of sunshine at 4.00pm can do for temps during an otherwise coolish day!

You lot better get your shovels out if the UKMO is near the mark!

Both sea ice, which floats on water, and glaciers and ice on land cool the Earth by reflecting the suns rays. Without large ice masses at the poles the Earth would absorb more heat and warming would escalate. When ocean temperature rises sea ice becomes thinner, exposing more water, thus reinforcing the warming trend and creating a positive feedback loop.

For those that were too young to remember the oct 87 storm here is some footage of the morning after.
It was filmed in my home village in west suffolk. The tail end of the storm was still clearing through. As you can see its still a tad breezy.

These are great charts! Winter means business this year I think.
The bbc stated temps would reach 6/7C here today, well it's 2.7C and frost and ice on all minor roads/cars and North facing roofs.
