I wish you all joy clearing that lot out! Been there, done that and didn't like it! Wet and soggy just like my garden at the mo. Hubby just walked down to the corner shop to get me some dark chocolate! Mmmm! Worth a million that man is. He reckons it is blowing a real hoolie out there now, it certainly sounds like it with all the banging and clattering outside.

Looks pretty evil there now looking at Ventusky https://www.ventusky.com/?p=51.80;-4.80;6&l=gust

You are lucky to have it so warm, here in Bognor is currently 5C despite the home page saying we have 10C! I promise you they lie! It is perishing even the dog never stayed in the garden to chase a squirrel. I think he didn't see it though! Time now is 6:55pm. Really hoping for a VERY cold winter for once!

Police on the beach at Bognor and a boat out searching, plus heard a helicopter the whole time I was out walking the dog for an hour! When will people learn NOT to take risks with the sea..

Hi Polar bear, just passing High tide now in Bognor but really gusty as the web cam tell you if you put sound on. Saw one idiot standing right at the edge of the shingle, saw the wave was bigger than expected, tried to run backwards, fell flat on his back and got covered by the surf. One lucky man not to be dragged into the sea. I bet he wont do that again as it will have been a cold and soggy walk to somewhere he could dry off. Wind chill wouldn't have made it comfortable for him.

Not missing a lot for the South coast although it is F8 gusting F9 here and high tide . You are sheltered in North Somerset though. Live webcam of high tide here in Bognor. http://www.bognorregisbeach.co.uk/live

I think Windchime is from Galway so Irish Met office have a different level of warnings.

Thanks for that Mapantz, I haven't had time today to check out the forecasts so it looks like I was caught with Mapantz down!

Hmmmn... we already have F7 gusting F8 here. Higher than I expected for this early on. I am now wondering if this could possibly get a little higher than the F9 they have forecast for tomorrow? Interesting to watch anyhow. http://www.chimet.co.uk/(S(2dtruvvm5bw1r2ztyy0erb55))/wind.aspx Hmmn just dropped a little but still interesting that it was slightly higher and I AM surprised at what a large area Brian is covering!

Storm Brian / Coastal Photography
coldfingers1 replied to JWHancock's topic in Archived weather photography area
I am by no means even a very good photographer but I DO live less than half a mile from the coast and the only thing I can add, which you almost certainly already know, is that whenever I have used my camera for photographing the sea I have used a clear filter to protect the lens! Amazing how even the smallest amount of salt water can ruin a lens in no time. Good luck and I hope you get some superb shots! -
I agree Polar bear, to my mind it doesn't get interesting until at least a Force 10. I am surprised this 'storm' has been so over-hyped. Surely Storms start out at Force 10 and severe storm at Force 11. It always used to be that Force 9 was just a strong gale, certainly NOT a storm! I remember coming through the Bay of Biscay in a Force 10, now THAT was fun, once we were allowed up on deck at least!

Isle of Purbeck SHOULD get higher wind speeds than me as where I live is a little bit sheltered from the South Westerly winds. If it turns Westerly though it could be a different matter for me but possibly even worse for you. Likely the road into Purbeck could flood? Just checked and yes, you do have a flood warning so be careful please, high tide could be interesting!

Haha, lucky you! All an Italian diet helps me with is increasing my waistline.

Force 6 winds here, calmest it has been here on the coast here for 36 hours. Not progged to be gale force here until early tomorrow, net-weather giving 53 mph gust for my town but they always underestimate the wind strengths in a storm, so I will expect 55mph gusts at least, most likely when that squall line moves through.
