  1. Sigh, I did hope not but mended the wobbly fence 'just in case'. After '87 I never take chances if a gale is forecast. However.... plenty of time for it to move further NE yet. Early on I thought they had Ophelia's track wrong but it moved further north west fairly rapidly so could still happen this storm moves to where it was forecast too.
  2. Hmmn isn't it supposed to be slightly further North and East by now? https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/isobaric/1000hPa/orthographic=-11.96,52.08,1685 Please move Brian, you aren't wanted in Southern England! Seriously though, I hope it does move a little north-easterly soon as I still have apples and pears on my trees!
  3. Flippin Eck indeed. And still showing less than the 115mph winds in '87. I sincerely hope for their sakes it doesn't get as bad as that 'normal UK weather'.
  4. Haha! So says someone who lives in the Midlands and didn't experience the event! "normal british weather" I don't think so!!! I am undoubtedly far, far older than you and NEVER before was what I experienced that night in any way, shape or form, "normal british weather!" My mother was 60 years old at the time and she would also agree! Never before in LIVING MEMORY had ANYONE in Southern England experienced winds like that! Maybe in the Highlands of Scotland but NEVER in Southern Britain! 115 mph is NOT normal Southern weather for sure!
  5. Oh I so laughed at that! I remember the original 'there isn't' and although it wasn't technically a hurricane the hurricane force winds gusting to 115mph in my region could have fooled anyone. It did me!!! This time,..... oh the irony that it actually IS a hurricane on the way! Sorry to anyone in the danger areas, it isn't funny at all for them and having been there, and got the postcard you have ALL my sympathy.
  6. It certainly looks like it one here! Wow, I am thankful for that but still feel very sorry for anyone in Ireland who may be seriously impacted from this! It looks like the computer models may have got it correct after all! Just me that is mistrusting of modern technology. Blame it on pensioner bias! LOL.
  7. That happened in '87. Visited grandad at 5:00pm, freezing! Came out at 7:30pm, positively balmy! So I reckon your supposition is likely correct.
  8. Thank you for the reassurance. Problem is that since that dreadful night in '87 (I had to move my baby into our bedroom as the winds looked likely to blow the chimney down into the room where her cot was!) I have always be a little scared of severe storm warnings. Wow that baby is 31 now! Why I am scared of warnings I don't know as the last forecast I heard that day was 'light winds'. If I had heard a severe weather warning maybe I wouldn't have been so scared now. That night I lost total trust in forecasters and sadly it sticks!
  9. That is bad!!! Remember them almost reaching that on South Coast in Great Storm of '87. A horrendous night! This could be a disaster as it comes when people are up and about not during the night as I experienced. Please everyone, be sensible and stay safe.
  10. Hi Polar Bear, I agree, really worrying. I also have relatives in Pembroke dock area with a small baby, I really hope they will be OK. High chance of power cuts at very least.
  11. Not meltdown until they stop showing who is online which happened the last time we had widespread snow in the south. We all go loony as we so seldom see it! Still snowing heavily here and settling. Only half a mile from the beach too!
  12. 2C in Bognor Regis and slushy stuff on top of car. Sleeting heavily now. Amazing, I never expect to see as much as one snowflake! 3 minutes later and it has gone down to 1C with all snow and settling! Whoopee!!!
  13. Please keep writing about it Snow Queen as I will catch up tomorrow. Some nice rollers coming in on the webcams http://www.miamiandbeaches.com/plan-your-trip/see-miami-webcams#webcams
  14. Becoming very gusty here on the coast now, Likely to get a bit worse by midday if the forecasts are accurate. http://www.chimet.co.uk/(S(lgjxug550iabgm455kosw155))/wind.aspx
  15. So does anyone think we will get much wind on the South Coast tomorrow? I tidied up the garden just in case.
  16. It's been wet, wet, wet here all day and I had to stand at a graveside in the pouring rain this morning. Felt sorrier for the poor coffin bearers though as they had no hats and it seems nobody provided them with umbrellas or is that not allowed for funeral staff? Daft if not. Weather now sunny and warmish but I have been outside battening down the hatches for tomorrows wind as it seems that on the South Coast here we may have a bit of a storm. As for ones moaning about 25C, I was in Madrid in middle of July and the max temp was 42C! Now that is worth moaning about. But Hey, this is the Summer moans thread after all.
