I'm afraid patience is going to be tested in terms of snow and cold this side of the year at the very least. Doesn't look to me to be anything all that interesting on the horizon, we've definitely moved away from a wintry xmas and cannot see that suddenly being put back on the menu again, unlike xmas dinner. Hopefully January at some point will deliver but we've been here before and before you know it February is here and spring soon after, time flies. I'll take March or April snow in a heartbeat as it's still enjoyable but it's just not the same as in winter. Meanwhile I'll keep looking at these cams and dream of getting of a quarter of what they get there.

Congratulations. My mum was a grandma at age 42, and I was already an uncle at 7 months old haha.

Got time on our hands for cold and snow. I still remember xmas 2012 and wondering if we'd have any cold that Winter but there was a huge turnaround mid January with quite a few snow events here thereafter and it stayed chilly through into spring. A cold spring is not everyone's cuppa tea mind you.

Certainly mild today, funny how we are now starting to get these kinds of days near the winter solstice but not far from the spring equinox in March we'll probably have a raging easterly and buried in snow ala March 2018 when most people want to have a bit of what we're having today.

Onto the weather and certainly chilly today but much milder by the looks of it over the weekend, I'm not looking much more forward than that to any potential wintry weather over xmas, don't want to get disappointed if it gets downgraded. One step at a time.

A bit like in north America it always impresses me how cold it can get in the far east and the wild temp swings. Shanghai is going to struggle to get above zero at the weekend. GFS going for -16 uppers there on the ensembles a bit further on. All of this bearing in mind how far south they are, as far south as Marrakech. Very impressive. Great city visited a few years ago Shanghai that is not Marrakech, never been to the latter.

Sorry to hear that Kasim hope your ok. You are one of the best on this site no doubt about it and yes she would have been proud of you.

Got to admit the outlook is kinda poor for cold and snow, not the worst charts ever but even so. I know even a week to 10 days is a long time in weather but some of the even more knowledgeable on here did say December wasn't going to be great until after xmas. And the core of cold would be in the new year where it might be very interesting. I think the cold we had not long ago was just a taster before the main course late this month onward. I would take a winter like 2012-13 which didn't get going until mid January. Turned out to be a good winter that with quite a few snow events. Probably the last decent winter overall. Might be asking too much for a 2009-10 though.

That's what I've been doing today getting my mum's shopping. She's 82. Obviously with her cancer now she's starting to feel not so good. She went out every day up until a couple of months ago, not like her to want to stay in. Anyway sat in Starbucks at the moment finishing off a latte. Going dark outside, horrible day.

No sun up here at all today. A vile wet day. Things look a bit better next week fingers crossed.

Sounds like snowmageddon lol and always eloquently written, not like the rubbish now haha. Just don't understand why the lows never move further north nowadays? like you say it's clearly possible.

We're skinny minnies

Speaking of "cold blooded" since I've lost a load of weight I feel the cold much more, couldn't get warm earlier after being out in the wind and rain, that is a big downside to it. I was 13 and a half stone in July and could never get cool even in the winter I was always warm even in cold and snow and in the 2018 BFTE as well but now I'm 9 and a half. Might sound too slim for an adult guy but that is my natural weight as I ate a lot when I was depressed for a long time and put on 4 stone. My parents were never huge people though so being slim is not a shock.

Sorry for your loss if I could I'd give you a little hug I would. My mum has been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer last week and has a growth on her kidney so suffice to say it's been a worrying time lately and they aren't sure how long she has left. Didn't want to put a dampner on this thread before the snow arrived so didn't say anything. Been here there and everywhere with her for tests, scans and biopsies over the last few weeks. Been a kick in the teeth really as she's never seen me truly happy in my life so far as I've had a lot of problems. Just as I was getting my life on track more than ever before we got this bad news. Feel bad that I've not really had long with her as she had me at nearly 44 and I'm 38 now. One thing I'll say though is your mum wouldn't want you to be sad forever about her, this is what my mum said to me the other day. She said live your life Gareth I've had mine, I don't want you to be sad about me all the time after I go as it's not what I would've wanted for you, this made me feel a bit better. Like @Had Worsesays time is a healer as well.

I still think FI is around 5 days away as the 0c isotherm doesn't fully leave the very far north of the region on the ecm and then pushes it back south again later on, yesterday or the day before it showed it being blasted further north. The cold to the north and east has been crazy. My genealogy friend in eastern Latvia says it hasn't been above zero there since the 13th November and no signs of it happening anytime soon.

Raining here unfortunately maybe if I look hard enough I can say it's sleet haha. Can't see there being any more snow here for a while tbh. Until the next cold spell arrives.

Just tiny patches of snow left here and there around here, the vast majority of the 00000000000.1mm covering has gone lol. A pretty poor effort but at least we've had a bit of snow cover. In the end it just wasn't heavy enough to give a bigger accumulation, we was under most of the light stuff.

Not a great effort here tbh. Just happy to have seen some settling snow this early....sometimes waiting until late winter for it some years.

After this next batch I doubt we'll have anymore so probably a couple of cm here at best tonight I reckon, not great but a very promising start to winter. I'm satisfied already
