Showers seem to dying out as they head inland. Oh well I'd give this cold spell a 6/10. A bit above average mostly for the cold but on the snow front "ok" but needs improvement. Had better. Not as good as the Jan 2013 cold spell here but it's been a nice break from the Atlantic onslaught which we're going to find ourselves back in again soon enough!

I think tonight is just another wait and see scenario. Convection is often so unpredictable, the other night we was only supposed to get trace amounts of snow or zero according to some other models but in the end we ended up with a couple of inches. Not amazing but even so this shows the models don't always have a great handle on things regarding sea convection/streamers.

Yes I think the main difference north Vs south is I've never actually recorded a completely snowless winter here. Even the mildest like 2013-14, 2018-19 etc had at least a dusting at some point. Whereby I'd say all of the south below Birmingham have had no snow at all in some winters, maybe not even any falling snow. Stating the obvious but clearly the further north you are the closer you are to the Arctic and it's associated air so less likely to miss out on snow.

As you say a personal preference but I've noticed spring doesn't tend to begin properly here until after the spring equinox....so late March. Can still get decent cold & snow up to mid March. Only difference is the sun is a bit stronger in March compared to now so the snow rarely lasts long.

Yes still have snow cover here from yesterday morning and as I look east from my house the Pennines look like the Alps. A beautiful day here.

I see your point. A lot of things in life that are "exciting" do tend to lose their appeal after a while. I'll always love snow no matter if it's a light cover but I'd really like to see a really disruptive fall, a truly extreme event like 60cm of snow like what they get with a nor'easter in the states and even huger drifts with it. The question is what happens if that 60cm happens? Would we want even more than that to be satisfied again?

Couldn't live there tbh. Only interesting weather they get more of is thunderstorms and they can wait years to see a snowflake never mind a covering. They can keep their stifling heat too. Onto the local weather and it's a cold day for sure with temps barely above zero and some snow cover remains here, very icy underfoot though nearly slipped earlier.

Was great to see most of us have done well today on the snow front, whilst those east of the Pennines have moaned lol. Looking at the ensembles there is a strong likelihood of it turning milder for a time, for how long who knows, GFS wanting to bring us an easterly at the end of the run but as of now not well supported by the pack "more runs needed"

Nice to wake up to about 2 inches of snow at the most. I'm being realistic here not exaggerating amounts haha, this is not a severe event. Seen far better but this will do and I'm satisfied now. Unfortunately though we've got some milder air moving through in the next few hours so this probably won't last on lower levels.

If anything does fall I'd be surprised if it lasts on low ground beyond tomorrow afternoon as a milder sector moves through from late morning. You might be ok at your elevation but the Pennine passes will definitely see the snow linger for sure right through into Friday. Especially with these temps.
