    Hello @Weather Enthusiast91
If that’s the case then I’m in the minority with you... As I too feel more at ease now that the nights are getting longer again. :oldgood:
From a personal point of view, I love this period from the 1st of July up to Halloween... It’s that summer winding down and fading and autumn increasing that I absolutely love. Once Halloween has passed a strange switch happens to me, as I tend to fall out of love with autumn... Don’t get me wrong, I do like November and there is a real beauty in November, but the magic that is there throughout the rest of the season just vanishes.
Now this is the bit that’s really weird with me, by the time we get to December, I tend to find myself craving a bit of extra daylight... But again by the time we get to January, that bit of extra daylight makes me more comfortable... But anyway I’m veering way off topic now. :oldlaugh:

But yes I too find beauty in all of the seasons, but this late summer/early to mid autumn is the one I love the most. :oldgood:

    Good evening
During this time of the year we do begin to see very gradual changes which remind us that autumn is our next season, and there are already signs of autumn out there if you know where to look, though these changes seem to speed up a bit from around mid to late August when you really start to notice the sun slowly decreasing in strength and the nights gradually becoming longer.

I certainly understand what you are saying about November. The beauty of autumn diminishes during that month as we head into winter. And despite me favouring long nights over long days, by the time we get to February, I start looking forward to spring.

I take it from reading some of the comments on here that I’m not allowed to look forward to, or comment about the signs of autumn in the autumn thread?? :cc_confused:

I could understand if the post I made this morning was in the summer thread, but I didn’t... I posted them in the autumn 2020 thread.

But guess what folks, and I know this may come as a shock to some folk, but there are those of us out here that love autumn and look forward to it’s onset. :oldgood:

So whilst I’m genuinely sorry for all of the summer lovers out there at how summer 2020 is, please don’t ruin our autumn  lovers thread!

After all, it’s only weather.  :friends:

It does certainly appear to be more socially acceptable to love spring and summer as opposed to autumn and winter. I know that I'm in the minority here, but I much prefer long nights over long days. I have always been more of a night person. A lot more peaceful and just overall a better atmosphere.
I do like to see the beauty in all 4 seasons however.

  3. Roll on my favourite season: Autumn. Barring last year's, that season usually brings us many kinds of weather. Whether it be warm sunny days with cool misty nights, good storms, showers, you name it.
In the meantime though, let's hope that August ends up being more interesting than this July.

  4. Ah, autumn: My favourite season. Here are my predictions for autumn 2020:

September: Mostly settled with temps in the late teens to early 20s along with some cold nights. Starts to become unsettled towards the end of the month though (similar to last year).

October: A short lived warm spell around the beginning of the month. We also see the last 20 Celsius of the year at this point. Following this, the rest of the month will be low pressure dominated resulting in the first storm of the season.

November: The stormy weather during October continues into the first week of November. After this, an anticyclone will result in a few sunny, cold and crisp days which is when we will get our first ground frost of the season. From mid to the end of the month will be a bit of a mixed bag, with temperatures gradually continuing to drop as we head into December.

I love these kind of threads where we are to predict the weather.

  5. With the exception of a few days here and there, I have a feeling this is going to be the main theme for the rest of the summer seeing as weather blockages seem to be coming more and more common nowadays. And going by past experiences, dry and sunny springs quite frequently lead to poor summers for some reason. Whilst I admit that I did get bored of the dry and sunny weather we had during the spring, I certainly do not want a poor summer either. Why can't we just have more changeable weather? That is part of the beauty of our climate, and also keeps things interesting.

I know that, but there’s a sense that summer 2020 is slipping away faster than it usually would feel like.

Perhaps it’s something to do with them talking about schools reopening in September. It still feels a long way off, but once the school holidays kick in, it comes round again.

It is the exact opposite for me. The first half of this year has been dragging and I can't believe we are still only in June. This whole corona business and the lockdown made the last few months feel like more of a drag than usual, whereas a normal year would feel as if it's flying by.

As I predicted this morning, the main forecasters all underestimated the temps today and overestimated the thunderstorms.

Even a few days back I was expecting Friday to be another hot day for many- while the BBC for example were suggesting 24C with lots of showers.

Here we manage 27C despite a predicted max by the Met Office of 25C this morning. It was also very sunny for virtually the whole afternoon and evening.

When the breeze is still from the SE we usually do well in these parts, even when pressure starts falling. That's why I was surprised the major forecasters were predicting so much rain today.

Yep. Quite frequently when thunderstorms have been forecast, the weather fails to deliver. I don't bother holding my hopes up anymore. Just take things as they come.

  8. Worst: 2012 - Very wet for the majority of the year. I love listening to the rain but the weather was taking the mick that year. Lack of variety made it very boring weather-wise.

Best: 2018 - With the beast of the east, a mixed spring and autumn and a long heatwave throughout the summer, this was by far the most interesting year in my opinion. There was something for everyone that year.

Was it summer 2016 or 17 that ended in July? I remember a stormy evening in July and summer never recovered and Autumn started in earnest. Wonder if it’ll be the same story this year but even earlier to punish us for the glorious spring.

August 2016 I would say was the most decent August since 2003 (at least over here in the Midlands anyway). From what I can remember August 2017 was pretty much like the majority of other Augusts in recent years.

I am not so sure about that. Yes, we have had an unusually dry spring which dragged on and in 2018 a very dry summer, but those sort of events have always been happening here and there. Only a few months ago we have had the wettest February on record. If not the whole autumn/winter period. Our weather is very changeable, so we could quite easily go back to having a long wet spell dragging on for a couple of months at anytime.

Hoping the heat being modeled next week actually comes off. The hotter, the better. ☀️

I actually don't at all mind hot weather, even as hot as 30 celsius plus. Just as long as it's in moderation and at the right times of the year. A good thunderstorm after a few days of hot weather is a great refreshing way to cool down too.

  12. I am liking this June so far because there is a little bit of everything (weather wise) which keeps things interesting. We did get a bit of a thunderstorm last night, though it was only small and fairly short lived. But it was better than nothing. Hopefully I'll experience a much bigger and better one at some point during the summer. Here's hoping. ⛈️
