  1. Still going, but it is very, very wet and sludgy. Lovely surprise, especially as my daughter has an inset day and so has been able to get out and enjoy it!
  2. Snowing heavily here and settling, even on the roads. It's pretty wet though, so I can't see it remaining for long once it stops snowing. An unexpected treat!
  3. Yes, I wonder if this will catch people unawares: there's not much falling, but it is persistent.
  4. Nice covering of a cm or so here and still coming down. Didn't start until around 4ish, so isn't doing too badly! Due to the lack of gritting, am starting to wonder if the schools will be open here.
  5. Yep: trains running OK though and daughter's school is open, so everyone seems to have got used to it!!! Daughter v.excited about walk to school in snow.
  6. Oh I can so relate to that! Having a nice little flutter of snow here at the moment and it is just not enough! LOLOL The bar has been raised....:D
  7. Sorry: really, really, wasn't meaning to be narky: made me chuckle thinking of 5 metres of snow and wanted to share. Had vision of cat with spade trying to carve tunnel through it all.
  8. I think the cats would be the least of those having problems if there was 15 feet of snow..... Did you mean inches?
  9. Ah well....at least the slide trip back to the station should be easier!! Nice and snowy down here in Camp at the moment. No sign of a thaw yet....
  10. Yup...Snowy snorbens does it again! We've had 2-3 inches since 7am and it's still coming down very hard. Best snow in years and years!
  11. Well I know, but I'd have thought the snow would help!!!! They showed the M23 on the news this morning: as you say only one lane (and I wouldn't have fancied even that one). Snow has pepped up again, so fingers crossed.
  12. Morning! Have to say I'm pleased with things so far: have about an inch here and it's still colming down albeit lightly. Am looking forward to more through the day. Have a good one everyone
  13. I just do not know....we often seem to get snow when we're supposed not to thanks to the Chilterns and the height, but I'm just not sure this time....I wouldn't be surprised to find a fair bit after tonight, but then again, I equally wouldn't be shocked at a dusting. Too close to call....
  14. What? Not enough east for those in the west? Shocking.....
  15. Did we not mention that the name St Albans derives from the Anglo Saxon word for 'snow' (ie. to Snorben) as misunderstood during the Roman invasion of the late 2nd century?
  16. Huzzah! Will be very interesting to see how this pans out.
  17. Yup, making sure you've got a few supplies and checking on anyone who might not be able to get their own. Will be interesting to see how St Albans does from this: we've always managed, somehow, to get in on the act if it's anywhere close (we're pretty high here), but will it be the same this time?
  18. I am such a kid: woke up just now and had to have a peek! Lovely here: have a couple of inches at least and it's still going
  19. Many thanks to all those who bothered to answer sensibly.
  20. You know, that's what it looked like it should be, but I wasn't sure if that could happen. Thanks for that Pete.
  21. While travelling acrosss the Dartford bridge yesterday at about 9am, we saw this strange, dark coloured, line in the sky....it was very defined and straight. Bit like a con trail, but much thicker and very dark grey. Does anyone have any ideas what it was or how it occurred? All ideas gratefully received....
  22. Awww...I always love it when our Peugeot decides to play with wildlife!!!!!!
  23. Oh yes....we certainly know the fashionistas of the slug world. 1) Go slug lamping... ours like flying lessons. 2) Choose slug resistant plants (not that I like them anyway, but Hostas would last under a minute in our garden) or underplant with small leafed stuff (they don't seem to like that) 3) Get yourself a frog (we have one that lives at the end of the garden and we never have any problems around the area where he lives.) Oh and don't get the huge black ones....they are apparently the good guys. Failing that, you could always get a pack of horse and hounds to trample your garden, thus removing the plants! Problem solved.
