Sky news doing a live FB stream this afternoon for the storm Friday into Saturday they also showed Sunday for most it looks mild, dry, and windy with rain quite isolated and cloud more broken in the east

And down here in Hampshire, we will wake up the next day and say what was all the fuss about

Totally agree NWS every time we get an Easterly in summer I'm always thinking why now, and you can almost guarantee that the Azores or Euro highs disappears from our shores once winter ends... so frustrating. :wallbash:

The only drawback with winter in summer is that the in-laws won't get stuck in a snow drift enroute

Well I'm delighted by the ECM this morning, gone are the horrendous storms, replaced by much calmer and anticyclonic weather post Xmas. If we can't get high level blocking, cold and snow, I'd much rather have what the ECM shows than zonality and storm after storm.

But how am I going to dry my washing. 20 days of no wind and counting. The only storm

That is likely to verify this Xmas is the one you find in a tea cup, served by the in laws!

Probably odds on that it will be 4 winters in a row without a nationwide cold/snowy spell, surely we live in the most boring location at our latitude for weather?

We do. New york had more snow in one day last Year ......3 feet ........than Hampshire has had in the last 40 years combined. That does not include the other snow storms they got that Year.

From a contact in Minnesota (Cornish migration) yesterday

A snow storm came through yesterday, and now the cold front that followed has a forecast of minus 21 F overnight (-29C).

(We are so lucky over here to miss all this)

I am no expert but the pattern for this winter so far has been identical to the past few dreary wet and mild winters with America hogging all the cold.  Early cold followed by mild all the way to Spring. The curse of the Daily Excess?

Not just America. many parts of Europe continue to have lots of snow. The UK has its own climate, often the reverse to the other areas . I mentiond earlier the snow that awaited me in Spain when the ferry docked. Two Years ago last Summer IArrived in Caen, France to a heatwave. This lasted 4 Months. 1OO miles north in UK was cool with drizzle most of that Summer

More return of the Euroslug and downgrading of PM/cooler air before that, especially on the ECM:wallbash:

I'm beginning to lose it with our climate... I've defended it on here sometimes... really struggling at the moment!

Summer is much better than winters like this and that's saying something considering we're worse for warmth/interest than most places at our latitude...

You won't get this set up in Summer

Turkey is an odd country. Only the coastal west and south of the country get the good weather. The rest is all over the place. Cold, wet and generally nasty other than the peak of summer.

Spain and France are often cold too with Snow whilst we have cool drizzle. I recall the Paris snow storm of five Years ago and uk was mild with drizzle. Three Months later France had heat wave for 4 Months and we were Cool and wet.

I think the problem with me is I've been following the model outputs for wintery potential since Oct, and with America going into the freezer early, it has seemed to be a long winter already.  The model outputs more often than not show mouth watering potential with a fledgling PV being knocked about, combined with a distorted expectation for Dec (blame 2012). I have to keep reminding myself that it isn't Xmas yet and there is still a long time for there to be some wintery weather.

Don't worry you will get your easterly ...........in March 17, and for 3 Months and more cool drizzle.

  10. Well, another scorcher here on the Hampshire coast. Heating off for 3 days now. As the shortest day rapidly closes in, my thoughts turn towards Spring. However, concerned that come March, the Easterly will arrive as per normal and hang around for the usual 3 to 4 Months. Unfortunately by then, the rest of the World would have had the lions share of Snow / biter cold, leaving us with cool drizzle and cloud. Is Winter 2016 / 2017 over and is Summer 2017 over too I ask myself ?

  11. Amazing down here on the south coast. We rarely get snow even when it is cold, but today i can honestly say that 16c was hotter than some days I have seen in July of some Years. Needless today, central heating is off. My only fear is that the easterly winter will arrive in March for 3 Months like previos Years and that just delievers cool yuky drizzle. Heres to the BBQ and Spring :hi:
