Ground mist clearing in the marginals now +0.5 was -0.5 earlier. Has the potential to be a lovely day. Model thread still loopy- a cool week with the potential to go colder in a week or so is my take. Looks like there might be some Atlantic air sneaking round the top of the high Thurs/Fri making things a little milder. Without wanting to turn this into an alternative model thread is this what you guys are seeing? (but basically I would take not raining!)

let's hope so, Joe. Continued excitement in the model threat but I can't help thinking that significant cold spells will soon be a thing of the past for lowland/mid altitude locations. Think the last time the lanes got filled in here for any length of time was 1990/1. Although we have had cold spells and 2010-11 was memorable.

Better sort of day today-didn't get wet! Temps topped out at about 6.8C, 6.2 now. Rained hard in the night, no values sorry forgot to leave out a random bucket.-checked the river Dane earlier today though, flows up and rising by the look of things so no fishing yet! Huge excitement in model land-could it be that the pattern is actually going to change? Happy New year all when it comes-here's hoping for colder, frostier, drier, brighter weather and possibly some snow.

Pretty damn grim in the marginals. Winds picked up and squally outbreaks of rain coming through, temp 9.9C and dropping. Forecast looks about the same for next 4-5 days with some intense looking lows in the flow. Got a walk (and litter pick annoyingly) in yesterday in the gap between depressions as well as pruning some of the village fruit trees. Need a break in the weather-time to start hedge and tree planting and I want to go fishing!!

7.0 degrees in a bright and breezy marginals this afternoon, following a grim and gloomy morning. Got some jobs done-pear tree pruned, compost heap no. 1 dug out and onto veg beds with no rats present which is always a bonus! My 'bucket accidently left out overnight' rainfall monitoring station suggests close to an inch of rain last night. seems a lot, can anyone confirm?

Pretty mild pleasant sort of day in the Marginals-got a few jobs done. Sympathise with those struggling with low light levels-didn't used to bother me but as I've got older it does. (although I get a decent Christmas break and so I can get out a bit). Models seem to be firming up on some more seasonal weather although there is still plenty that could go wrong!!

Evening all, been a bit busy with work so just catching up. Pretty damn wet and gloomy in the marginals as we slide down to mid winters' day. 2 degrees C at present and dropping quick. Next few days look really mild-but hopefully might be OK for outside jobs at the weekend. One or two interesting charts showing around the 21st but I'm a bit uncertain about the synoptic change from very mild SW with a big Euro high to what look like cold and unstable North Westerlies in quite a short period of time. (Has anyone got a view on this?) Will have to have another study of the charts-hopefully seasonal weather will develop as we move towards Christmas.

Pretty wet and windy in the marginals currently showing 8,5C but weirdly feels a bit warmer. Just a thought-this afternoons set up- low to the North, bit of a pressure squeeze south of the low centre with strengthening WNW or NW winds has given short lived but very strong winds in this area in the past. In a sad anorak moment a few years ago I plotted damage to older oak trees on an OS map after a set up like this, which appeared to show lines of gust damaged trees aligned in a WNW direction-gust lines/ down bursts or just a coincidence? Not sure whether the current low is deep enough to do this. [Hope not, but a bit more firewood always helps!)
