  1. Beautiful day in the marginals. Bright and very little cloud. -3 last night, just 0.7 now. Snow cover generally holding on. Thaw started on roofs about midday but already slowing down. Interesting to see if approaching fronts make much impact.
  2. Interesting day in the marginals- two very active cells came through at 5.00am and roughly 6.00am couple of inches of snow put down, Got to work early-nice drive with few cars on the road. Watched the traffic carnage develop. Generally bright day, slight thaw between about 1.30 and 3.pm. Now -0.5 but could freeze really hard if clouds clear and it looks like they might. Take care if you're out and about. Hope the possible upcoming high isn't a cloudy one!
  3. -0.5C with patchy cloud in the marginals. Been a nice day of blue skies and patchy cloud. Some impressive looking cells slid by to the south west this afternoon. Slight thaw around lunchtime but snow cover still in place. Interesting to see what the next batch of showers bring-BBC graphics still indicating they are fairly substantial. Could be some serious ice issues in the morning.
  4. -0.5C about 3cm lying in the marginals, Just gearing up for the trip to work, which might be entertaining as gaining altitude! Shower activity looks south of us and streamer appears to be turning into a dangler. BBC graphics showing a tight block of heavy wintry showers running into the area in the early hours tomorrow. Anyone got any insight? I hadn't spotted or expected that. 24hrs a long way out though for that type of forecast/ feature.
  5. Interesting day in the marginals--3c at 10pm last night, -1.9 at 6.00am. thick fog. cleared briefly this afternoon , little sprinkle of snow, 0c at 4,00pm. Now moderate snow with some interest upstream. better than mild and wet!
  6. -2.5 in the marginals clear and dry, shower activity looks west of M6 but radar suggests possibility of a streamer establishing.
  7. -1.5 in the marginals. Clear but clouds on western horizon. Back lanes icy, reckon there will be some holes in the hedges tomorrow. Take care all. Still potential for tomorrow.
  8. Agree with Joe Bloggs, Isn't the issue that there is more heat in the atmosphere? Winters take longer to cool, seas generally warmer, cold pools smaller etc etc. More heat less likely to have temps suitable for snow or even below zero. UK temps hit 40 degrees last summer-who though we'd ever see that?-I can remember when 30 was considered extreme!
  9. 4.6C in the marginals some heavy showers coming through. Yesterday temps dropped steadily from 7.4 to 2.9 at about 10pm. Just returned from Macc, thought might be a bit of sleetiness but still just wet. As several posters have already mentioned plenty of potential for events to pop up in the next few days.
  10. Rain through now in the marginals,7.4C, but dull and very wet underfoot. Looks like the overnight system cleared through a little faster than predicted. Looking forward to the change overnight. BBC weather appeared indicate a little system associated with a cold front forming over Northern Ireland tomorrow and possibly running East/South East-something to watch? Fax charts were indicating lots of troughs in the upcoming Northerly flow so a certain amount of interest in the next few days-lets hope the cold doesn't get too modified on its run south.
  11. don't care as long as it's not mild and wet, would be happy with cold and wet........... (But would prefer snow and frost!)
  12. sensible scoobs, sensible-unlike me who's getting giddy at the possibility of a change..........
  13. 5.9c blustery westerly veering NW and the odd shower here in the marginals, clouds belting through. Interest building for next week. Polar maritime style NW'ers have produced in this part of the world and we are (over) due. Interestingly for here (East Cheshire) old codger farmer wisdom say the biggest snows have come from over Bosley cloud which would be a South Easterley-I guess from sliding midland or channel lows. Anyway at least there is a chance of something different!!!
  14. 10.7C, heavy windblown drizzle in the marginals. Hope dark horse is right, I'm proper fed up with this now!!!!
  15. Been pretty grim today and tomorrows rain event looks potentially serious, significant chance of local flooding I reckon especially as the ground is now saturated. Still a little glimmer of hope on the horizon for a change at the weekend. Watch how you go tomorrow folks-I reckon any roads in the area could be potentially challenging.
  16. 6.4 in the marginals, been clear and dry this morning but wind picking up and just started to rain...............again. Pretty sure global warming is what has happened!! Milder wetter winters, warmer summers with longer dry spells. but I also think we have longer spells of a particular weather pattern before quite sudden changes. It will be interesting (and concerning) to see if there will be a threshold period when increased amounts of cold fresh water in the North Atlantic has an impact and creates further change in our climate.)
  17. Pretty damn unattractive here in the marginals. 9.6 windy, raining hard. Water butts over flowing-got wet bringing the wood in, got wet feeding the birds! Lots of outside jobs to do but I think that's getting parked! Time for a coffee with possibly a splash of something to liven it up(!) and more shed jobs. Hope it clears through- supposed to be watching the lad play rugby this afternoon! One or two weather changes suggested in the long term but it's looking a bit rubbish.
  18. Just had to run out to Macc-V heavy rain, lots of standing water. Temp now 8.3-looks an active front, conditions changed really fast. Gonna have a glance at the radar. Radar interesting, front looks very active, lots of bright colours across the region. Chance of localised flooding depending on how fast its moving.
  19. 9.6 in the marginals. Wind picking up from the west. Clouds flying through but can still see the moon through the cloud. Front on the way! Really need a change in the weather!
  20. A balmy 8.9 in the marginals, overcast, light breeze. was hoping to look for the quadrantids (low down North East sector apparently), but I think that's gone by the by. Back to work and manky weather- enough to make you turn to drink.....(!), Bit miserable up your neck of the world as well Scoobs?
  21. Currently 3.1 bright and sunny in the marginals. Slightly surprising touch of frost overnight.
  22. Happy new year all. 6.2 C in the marginals. Cleared after heavy rain. Looks like at least 3 more depressions to come through in next few days. But are they starting to track a little further south? Just watched BBC weather 12-14 degrees above average across most of Europe.
