    Getting there...

Well it's been a long old wait but we're finally getting there. After all of the trouble with the utilities we finally have them in. Believe it or not they both kept their word and the Water was in on the 2nd October and the Electricity on the 11th. We should have the heating on this coming week (although we are still awaiting the glass for the front door - as you can see, but we hope that will be here by the end of the week). The ground works have also been completed and the mounds of earth removed. It almost looks ready to move in. Well, fingers crossed (and with a bit of luck) we will be in the house within the next month, slightly ahead of schedule. Still plenty to do, but worth every moment... Here's some photo's taken on Monday of this week:
  3. Currently Breezy with showers on and off. Current temperature 14°C, Wind S (11 mph)

    Hindered by Utilities

Thanks SR, but I have a question, where is Sweep?
  6. Well we are really pushing on with the house now and we appeared to be making super progress (but then the bureaucratic public services bureau got in the way!). The Plasterer has completely finished, the Plumber has been in and finished and we have even had the finished floor level put in, so it now feels a lot more homely. We were hoping to have the heating on to dry things out properly so we can get in and start to put a white wash on the newly plastered walls, the only thing is we need Water and Electricity. Now the Water situation is completely my fault. I have been sitting on my hands waiting for the Water Service to contact me with a 'Tap in' date so that we can dig up the road and connect to the Mains, However, it appears that it was them who were waiting for to contact them to tell them we were ready for connection . This was actioned on Thursday and we have been given a connection date of the 2nd October (not too long to wait). The Electricity plonkers were out with us back in July and they asked us to dig a trench across our land, under the river which runs down the side of the property, through my Father in Laws land and up to an Electricity Pole on the land where they would connect up to the transformer. We dug the trench and the Engineers came out and ran the cable, we filled in the trench an awaited connection. Now if I take a few steps back, I applied for the Electricity connection in May and I spoke to an Electricity boffin on the phone who asked for the land reference etc so he could do a site assessment to give us an idea of cost for supply. We chatted on the phone for a bit and I asked him when they were likely to be out to do the survey. To cut a long story short, the Electrcity boffin said 'oh we don't do those site visit surveys anymore, it's all on the computer now, we can plot it all out from here'. Now being that I live IT (Computers) I thought good on ya, that should save some time. Zoom forward to last Monday. I rang the Electricity company and my language was a bit 'electric'. I asked them where the hell the engineer had gone. He ran cables 6 weeks ago and hasn't connected up to the transformer. The Electricity boffin said 'oh yeah, sorry we haven't been in contact, there appears to be a problem'. When I asked what the problem was, he told me that there wasn't a transformer on the pole. This I actually knew, but why should I have relayed that info to him. If they couldn't get off their fat ar*es and come out and do a live site survey then thats there fault. Anyway, he now says that they will have to put up a transformer and there is a significant cost in doing so. I asked who the hell was going to pay for that then, because we certainly weren't. He begrudgingly blamed himself for not doing the survey properly and said that they would have to stump up the cost!!! So in conclusion we should have a Water connection on the 2nd October and Electricity which has been scheduled for the 11th October oh and we've saved somewhere in the region of 5 grand for a transformer . Oh and no photo's this time as you won't really notice anything different from the outside at the moment....... (You'll be glad to know).
  7. Blimey GW I had no idea you lived in a nature reserve. I have been lucky enough to spot the following so far this year: Feral Pigeon (AKA Domesticated Rock Doves who think they are Fred Astaire and tap dance on our roof) Carion Crow Blue Tit Greenfinch Robin Starling Blackbird House Sparrow Great Tit There is also a bird of prey (i'm guessing) of some nature which regularly visits a huge Oak Tree which we have at the end of the garden. The noise it makes is unbelievable and all the other birds dissapear when it's around. However, I haven't managed to get a good look at it yet.
  8. A mixed bag morning, a bit of cloud and a bit of sun. Current temperature 13°C.
  9. Certainly a lot of seismic activity in that area lately, lets not hope that it's bulding up to something much bigger!
  10. Well I was actually think more in the way of my Tamron SP AF200-500MM F/5-6.3 Di LD (IF) Lense.
  11. Mammatus and Essan B for me, although I did really like Blackie's B photo, oh how I wish I was there right now!
  12. Would you like to swallow a camera?

  14. Another cloudy day *sighs* but captured a lovely Rainbow before going to work . Current temperature 14°C.
  15. Further to Dogs32's plight I thought that a brief explanation as to why some photo's are shown at a reduced size and why other images are shown at their full size, may help (correct me if i'm wrong anywhere within this guide Paul). There are 2 angles that need to be looked at here and these angles are 'Uploaded' and 'Linked'. If you 'Upload' an image from your PC directly into your post the NW Server has to work purely on its own to bring your photo(s) forward. Owing to the potential drain on Server resources for such practices, once your image is over a certain size there is a trigger in the coding behind the Forum which will reduce the image to a thumbnail to cut back on Server usage resources, which is why you will see it a reduced size and it will only enlarge when you click on it. As an example of the potential risk of resource overload, (taking into account if the NW server showed images at their full size for 'Uploaded' pictures directly into any post of the forum), if you 'Uploaded' 20 images into a post and there were 500 members viewing that post at the same time, the amount of resources that the NW server would have to provide to bring those images forward in full size to all 500 users at the same time would be enormous (simply times 500 by the number of photos by the size (k or MB) of the photo). As a result it would likely slow the server to a halt and may even bring it down completely (hence the reason thumbnails are a better alternative, you still see the image and everyone else can still carry on browsing and adding to the rest of the Forum). However, if you 'Link' to an external photo the NW server has to do far less work as it is the Server that the images are hosted on that are doing all the work. If you 'Link' to it and it is hosted externally then the image will retain it's original size. If you want to host your pics externally you have all the usual options such as Photobucket, My Space, FaceBook and all the others but there are some other free ones which don't require registration and are very simple to use. Some of these sites are: Imageshack.com, Imagehosting.com, Picoodle.com, Allyoucanupload.com etc. Please use this information in addition to the great tips and guides that make up this thread and you can't really go wrong. Have fun. Dazza
  16. Stopped at the house on the way home last night to see if the Plasterers had finished the inside of the house ready for the Plumber and definately had to do a double take. Our house has sprung some colour! Mrs Dazza picked the finish for the house and I hadn't even seen a picture of the colour, but low and behold it hit me straight in the face when I spotted it. I actually like it very much and as such Mrs Dazza had a lovely grin on her face all night, as she felt delighted that she got something right, I actually turn't round and said, but dear, you know you are always right, and will always be right, sure you know that. That followed with a slap to my back for apparently being cheeky . The Mother in Law then got on the phone to Mrs Dazza last as she had also seen it and started whinging at Mrs Dazza about the colour, 'Its too dark, it's too dark' is all she could say (not forgetting it's still wet and will get even lighter). Mrs Dazza did reply, 'well is it your house? because if it is you can have what ever colour you want', Mother in Law replied ' well does Dazza like it' Mrs Dazza said 'Yes, of course, he loves it' Mother in Law replied 'well thats all that matters then'. Anyone would think I have a hold of my Mother in Law with a comment like that . To be honest she would have known that I would have been ringing her back with a fistfull of comments and statements after her conversation with Mrs Dazza if she didn't back down. Anyway here's some photo's: In this photo you can still see (to the left) where they will be continuing on from and the grey it was before.
  17. Received my 3600 on Monday, just need to get the new house finished and I'll be good to go. It's killing me just looking and fiddling with all the goodies in the box *sigh*, ah well, hopefully only another couple of months to wait.

    My Blog

Brill - you'll be changing your Oil and Filters next SR . In all seriousness, I completely know where your coming from, what with the AD's etc. Had it tough when we found the Land our house was sitting on wasn't in our name, which really knocked me for 6. Just remain as positive as you can and you'll get through things, you'll then look back and wonder what all the fuss was about . Take care. Dazza xx
  19. Great footage, I see there was also another tower just in shot on the right hand side of the footage that was taking a pummeling too!
  20. Another overcast day with a current temperature of 13°C.
  21. It looks like their server has fallen over, I'm sure that when someone at Metcheck gets out of bed and realises that there is a problem it will be up and running again (unless they have receive a DOS attack and are unable to cope of course then things could take a little longer to put right  )
  22. Good grief, can you imagine being caught out in that!
  23. Generally overcast with sunny spell. Current temperature 14°C.
