  1. 6.20am...looked out of the window - heavy snow and a light dusting. 7am - covered. By the time I left for work and hour later there must have been a good couple of inches on the ground! Got stuck in ridiculous traffic on the way to work. A journey that should have taken 12mins took about an hour!! Now all melting at a rapid rate!
  2. Just thought I'd have a quick check in... Wow! 11 pages... There must be some weather happening... No! No weather, just dodgy-sounding foodstuffs and banter! Oh well, at least it made me smile!
  3. Had a little sprinkling of snow overnight - could see a dusting at about 1.30am. However we've had rain on and off all morning and much of the lying snow has been washed away. Oh well! It's been an exciting week of weather and has created memories for my children to tell their children about...which was what I wanted after all! I would say that I'm looking forwards to a taste of spring...but I'd be lying! Weather extremes are my favourite type of weather...I wonder what Spring could bring? Perhaps a "Pest from the West"!!!
  4. I'm hearing about trees coming down in various places...one has fallen across the M6 southbound near J33!! No snow here right now...probably had our lot now??? Stay safe everyone!
  5. Forgive me if this is a stupid question..? Could the radar be picking up blowing snow as opposed to falling snow, hence showing pink over areas that don't actually have falling snow? Just a musing! Meanwhile current weather here in East lancs is very light snow but the wind has certainly picked up in strength in the past hour! It's blowing clumps of snow off cars!
  6. It has been snowing here non-stop all morning so far...and the radar looks like it will continue for another couple of hours at least! Amazing drifts, snow overhanging the troughings, icicles...This is one of the best snow events for a long time (for me!)
  7. What a day! Had a "snow day" yesterday...despite the roads being OK. One child's school closed, the other open. Today, the road conditions were more tricky - but all schools and my place of work open. Then the heavy showers started - much heavier than yesterday and covering better each time. Both my kids' schools closed around 11am! Then at 3pm-ish the most epic snowstorm/blizzard I've seen for many a year! Total whiteout conditions!! On my drive home the snow blowing off the fields made it feel like I was driving in thick fog!! Oh, whatever next??!
  8. I am currently awaiting an attack of the blob... However, the Manchester blob certainly looks potent!! Good luck blob hunters!!
  9. Oh my...just dozing and have woken up to heavily falling snow!!!
  10. Same here regarding blue sky, sun and falling snow!!! I had a lovely walk this morning in the snow. It was delightful to see that in places the kerbs were camouflaged with the snow!
  11. Snow day for me and one of the kidlets... Sadly the youngest is in, so I'll have to walk through 2" of lovely, white, fresh and crunchy snow to get him there. Oh, woe is me...
  12. light snow in East lancs!! Relatively big flakes though!!
  13. Just watched the forecast on the beeb... It ended with "If I were you, I'd stay tuned to the forecasts, as things might get interesting." ?
  14. I'm trying to remember the times I've experienced significant snow. (Well, significant to me anyway!) However, dates may be hazy as most were when I was much (much) younger! Possibly December '81...I remember my dad trying to dig out orange mini out of the snow to get to work at the local power station! He didn't get very far... Abandoned the car two streets away and walked to work! January 1983... Got sent home from school at about 11am one morning as the snow was falling heavily onto already laying snow. No phone calls to parents... To be fair, not many of us had even landlines back then. We were just told to pick up our siblings and go home! What a jolly tramp through knee-deep snow that was! December 1985... It snowed so heavily that my mum and dad gave me and my sister our sledges before Xmas so we could get some use out of them. We took them to my nans house in Burnley and spent the weekend sledging down the steps on the back alley! Feb '91, Feb 96 and the December/January of 2009 and 2010 also stick in the mind too. I hope this coming block of weather creates memories for my kids to tell their kids about!
  15. I remember Feb '91. It started snowing one evening, just before half term! I remember listening to the footy on radio five and kept peering out of the letter box at the ever deepening snow!! Can't be accurate with depth, but it was enough snow to disguise the edges of the kerbs! Proper snow!! I also remember the year when the fire brigade had to come out and remove snow from the troughings as they were in danger of breaking away from the roofs!
  16. Snowing!! Big flakes but not heavy. A ridiculously gusty wind however!!
  17. Had a heavy shower of wet snow about half an hour ago. Now back to cold, wet 'orrible rain!
  18. I've seen it much worse than this, however when Lancashire police are tweeting advice to keep off certain motorways and the local bus services have stopped running, then I guess the "blob and sausage" event may be talked about for a while!!
  19. the sausage is most definitely here!! Best snow all winter... So far!
  20. the blob has hit!!! Everything is white thanks to soft hail and now heavy snow!!!
  21. Another heavy-ish snow shower... Now just a few small flakes dancing around. It did try to settle!!
  22. Finally!! Heavy snow, big flakes, all blowing around in the wind. Starting to stick, but ask depends on how long this lasts!! East lancs!!
  23. Well, snow here in Blackburn since about 9.15am...small flakes. Momentarily got a little heavier, but back to small flakes again. It is settling on trees and the grass, but not rooftops, cars or the ground. It looks pretty though!
  24. The wind has picked up! I've just watched somebody's recycling bag blow down the street!
