Most locations in south Manchester are at just 13mm for July so far. Yesterday gave 2 torrential cloudbursts that lasted about a minute each. We're in a very dry spot, we get the opposite of orographic lift, being in a basin, surrounded by hills to the NW, N, E, S and SW. The last few days have finally given rain that penetrates the soil, but we need a lot more before another dry spell comes along. As long as the hosepipe ban lasts (1995-96 lasted 14 months), we will always need the rain. Andrew
