Do you all think that this weeks showers will bring snow to low levels or will we need a bit of height?.
I'd assume Mon/Tue is very much dependent on height.. Low levels probably won't get much, but will still see falling snow which is better than nothing!

That’s not the same as the update I’m seeing:
Thursday and Friday will see a very cold north to north-easterly airstream bringing sunshine and showers, the showers giving rain or snow and most frequent in the north and northeast. It looks breezy on Thursday perhaps with coastal gales in the south and east, although winds should ease on Friday. Widespread locally severe night frosts are also likely. Later on Friday, rain preceded by snow may arrive in the far west and northwest, accompanied by strengthening winds. During the weekend and following week a lot of fine weather is expected with the chance of some wintry showers. Staying cold or very cold, with widespread frost. However, some wet and windy weather is likely in the northwest, which may briefly spread further southeast giving some snow on encountering the colder air.
Don't know why I got that update. Checked now and is the above. Yes not very positive...

Should definitely see some snow on Tuesday. Just not sure about its capability to lay at low levels, but very nice to see especially with how dire the Winter has been so far. MetO update is good but I am too new to this business to decode it properly lol.
The latter half of next week looks to stay cold or very cold, with frosts likely most nights. There may be cloud, rain and hill snow perhaps on Wednesday or Thursday, but thereafter turning brighter with showers. These will feed in from eastern coasts, but are likely to bring sleet or snow for some. There is a small chance of a weather system approaching the northwest over the weekend, which could bring significant amounts of snow on meeting the cold air. However, this is still very uncertain and it is best to stay up to date with the latest forecast. It will stay cold until the end of January with spells of rain, sleet and snow at times. However, some drier and brighter interludes are still likely, with overnight frost.

The 18z makes a move for a Greenie High but doesn't quite make it there in FI. Time will tell and pretty soon!

18z seems to have a tad colder uppers for the PM blast, which makes all the difference. Consistent!

If we are uncertain about Mon/Tue why get hung about what happens after

Watching the Derry automated forecast each day I see the temperatures dropping all the time. Two days ago it was slating Tuesday for 6C, now its around 4C. I don't think I will see snow on Mon/Tue but with my inexperience I am very confident midland/upland areas are going to get some good amounts of snow!

Completely agree with that. Many times have I seen Derry get nothing yet 15 mins out the road around Claudy has got a pasting.
Tell me about it Very frustrating to look at especially when you've got the view on the new bridge. Like a ring of fire Lol.

Yes me as well. On the fence until the reliable time period. But I'm sure our usual suspects with higher elevation are in for a great pasting Mon Tue

I wouldn't be expecting Greeny High until 1st week of Feb given strat downwelling.
Thank you. Would that front coming in from the west on the later ECM, produce snow for us?

Oh whoop dee doo daa The MAD thread is back on the happy pills again now that their beloved Easterly has shown its face once more lol . Looks like its only snowy at the end for us but I'm too inexperienced to know if that front from the west would give us snow here IMBY-wise.
No greeny heights on this run.

I'm just grateful the incessant boring weather is finally gone, and there is a nice raw chill in the air

Moving aside from the heated discussion. This time around unlike last month or the month before, we have a lot to actually look forward to this and next week. Monday/Tuesday more of a hill snow kind of affair but whats after will definitely be interesting. Things are coming steadily into the reliable time frame now.

An easterly first after a brief PM... That just doesn't cut the mustard. Good but not good enough anymore the bar has heightened these last few days . Fingers crossed we get a Greenie high first that will at wish move to Scandinavia or the other way around .
Very Imby ofcourse but IMBY would sum up the model thread at mo.

I have seen a wooden vessel which had sailed through via the Northern Sea Route (and back) in Juneau during the late 18 hundreds.. If the ice had been as extensive as the attempts your graphs attempt to portray then there is no way it could have survived the route (and back) the following year.
I presume at the time you made a painting or diary entry to document this Wooden Vessel? If so could we see it?

A bit of depression in the MOD thread because they don't get their Southern England nirvana in one op lol. Wait and see

I don't think there should be any negativity at all. Its at least returning to something chilly and well, normal, for this time of year.
That'll shock the daffodils back into the ground. Lupins too. Go away, its too early!!
