I would say that from a Scottish perspective, we will be at day 7/8 come the morning where the real turning point takes place.
In my neck of the woods, these are genuine Nirvana charts, producing copious amounts of snow from the NE at a perfect angle.
Which is why I personally won't be getting excited until Sunday night - at which point, I'll be glad I booked off the week of the week commencing the 15th as I'll be skiing most days.
I so hope you're correct - and hope that i'm not too close to the coast to join in the fun !
Either way, exciting times ahead . . .

Yes, certainly some momentum certainly growing for an easterly of sorts..
All of the models are wrong.
that can only be decided at a future date. For now, each thinks they're right otherwise what would be the point of their production and why would we bother analysing each run ?

That doesn’t mean the models are right re: amplification though, as you know. If we just blindly followed what NWP models showed accuracy would be in the bin..
It also doesn't mean the models are wrong. Your argument cuts both ways.

This must be one of few strange years where Scotland have pretty much kept up with places in the South East for sunshine levels. Places like Prestwick, Aberdeen, Tiree etc all aren't that far off my nearest station Shoeburyness for sunshine. I'm struggling to understand how Scotland, being so far north, are pretty much matching us down in the South! Anyway, surely this must be one of the sunniest years on record for parts of Scotland?
I moved to the Highlands (Nairn) from Leigh on Sea at the beginning of last year. We are fortunate here in Nairn as we are in the 'shadows' of the mountains which tend to keep the rain and cloud and leave us with clear skies which is great for the aurora during the autumn and winter months. I was told that Nairn has its own microclimate before I moved here and, having spent the last 18 months here I have to say that it's true !

GFS 6z with a Greenland high we'd be truly proud of.....if it were January. 1050mb in August is just laughable. You can bet your mortgage that 1050mb Greenie high will be nowhere to be seen over the winter months . . .

15th August here - right now we have twilight between 00.30 and 02.30 before the sky lights up ahead of sunrise
Thank goodness for blackout curtains !!

A couple of moderate showers here in Nairn, small flakes but high intensity, have left a covering. Currently -5

Nairn- my hometown - no better place to live in the whole of the UK. Some cracking winters there back in the day - I had a paper round winter of 1980/81 - great fun in the snow -
It's a wonderful place and we chose a perfect place to relocate to - quaint and relatively unspoilt, long summer days and longer winter nights.
Stunning scenery, stunning beaches and the benefit of Inverness on our doorstep.
Anyway, best get back on topic . . .

That's why I want to move to the Highlands, you often win when 90% of the UK doesn't!
I wanted to move to the Highlands about 10 years ago.
Thankfully, this desire was fulfilled early this year - wished I'd have done it sooner.

Significant thaw here in Nairn since about 3pm yesterday. Still a fair bit on the ground but expect it all to go over the next 24-36 hours.
Hopefully more snow in time for the Xmas period.

Isn't it strange how we have very few Scottish members. Maybe they just get it every year so it's no big deal. It does look like a white one there
I visit both this and the Scotland thread.
I am sure that other people north of the border do the same, however I do find that there is very little mention of Scottish weather on this thread with contributors seeming to comment on weather that will affect their local/areas of England - a point I have made recently when weather charts were posted which went as far as the England/Scotland border.
How inclusive !!!
