How many roofers and general builders on that island? Then think how hard it is to find a competent one anywhere, much less else on an island. Just how will the people get help quickly enough to prevent more damage and get enough insurance assessors. Really is terrible.
I had roofers up recently for a survey and had them fix absolutely anything they saw even slightly not perfect, I was able to get up the scaffolding myself to oversee etc. This tragedy for these poor folks is a reminder to all that in this climate you need a sound roof, all roofs need attention, they never get better on their own and even if all else falls apart at least you have the proverbial roof over your head. In this case the feeling these people have today is not that. Heads up and lets see what help they get, including hopefully flying out teams of volunteers to work it
There’s a good few but if it’s like Guernsey roofers most will be already booked up prior to to this.

Rain has hit us in Guernsey. Already hammering it down. Winds have instantly picked up and gusting.

No, many places still have cohesive societies and Channel Islands is one place, very popular destination for that and other reasons.
I can confirm supermarkets in both islands have empty shelves….. all because condor have said possibly no boats for a week. Yet it’s fresh stock they’re buying up such as milk which is readily available the next day as produced locally .

Our tide is progged to be 33.1ft Thursday morning at 08:40 so yours can’t be far off. Coupled with deep low pressure and fierce winds, this will be notably higher so expect flooding along South and West coasts of both islands.
And if anything, with Guernsey being slightly further North and with the low forecast on its current trajectory, you should record the slightly higher windspeeds although I think I know what you’re saying
Interesting times for us all here.
Thursday mornings update for Guernsey is very similar to ours so will be interesting to see when a red warning is issued and if they advise all islanders to stay indoors ...
Ahh see we deal in metres. Ranging from 6.3 neap up to 10.2 for a max spring tide and we’re due an 8.6 which would be adjusted I reckon to a 9. We’d get some wash but nothing too bad.
Always feel the authorities here are too cautious and slow. Especially now this is on the cards.

Indeed. Will be interesting to see how our local met predict and handle this one, including when warnings will be issued encompassing tide alerts. Stay safe my friend.
Well we don’t have a met here, just observers, so our info is from your Met. I suspect they’ll do it Tuesday eve. They’re not one for going early. Tides aren’t too bad. No springs so that’ll help. But we’re exposed so I fear a hell of a battering for a good 24 hours. No doubt you’ll record a 1mph quicker wind speed than us

Was sceptical this morning as GFS seemed out on a limb with the Southerly dive, however all models now seem on board with "trend setting GFS"
Another correction South or the status quo being maintained tomorrow might see the met office warning reworded to focus on Channel Island impacts rather than mainland u.k.
I’ll let you know how things go. That’s if I’m not blown into France. Proper exposed to this. Gonna be brutal.

Sooner people realise that northerlies do nothing for 90% of the country the better. Waste of time. Give me a Scandi high all day long.

Horrible bust for us in the channel islands. Northerly’s are just crap. Give me a Scandi high any day of the week.

2013. SW had a red alert, in the end we had 2 flakes and the channel islands was carnage!
Was an odd event for us really. Northern half of the island which is sea level had about 3-6 cm. The southern half which reaches 102m asl had 25/30cm and drifts in some places 18ft high! only talking 4 miles difference too.

This is what makes this thread so confusing, on one page alone you have posters saying unbelievable charts this morning if you want cold and snow, and other posters saying they don't like where things are going with the cold is being watered down. CONFUSED.COM
Difference between mince and knowledge is vast here.

Slush fest alert because the sun by mid march will destroy any snow-covered terrain rapidly.
When this happened on the 10th of March, in Guernsey of all places, back in 2013. There were drifts of 6ft and stuck around for 4/5 days. Anything can happen
