  1. Very true, but the MetO are trying their best against Mother Nature and it's elements.
  2. Info from Liam Dutton â€@liamdutton on Twitter At midday, it's 3C in Manston, 4C in Gravesend & 5C at London Heathrow. The cold air is coming from France to turn the rain to snow! #uksnow
  3. More snow storms to come next week in the NE USA and cold to our East will be around for sometime to come. These are very interesting times.
  4. It's happened a few times in the past and does not go down well with the finance department Snow is still forecast for the Croydon area tomorrow by the MetO
  5. Correct about grit get's washed away when it rains. It's going to be a nightmare to start with tomorrow as the rain will eventually turn to snow, so the gritting will have to be in advance to a certain degree.
  6. Ian is correct to a certain point. The MetO's scientist Bods take both sides and evaluate and produce their 'human touch' Fax Charts. Surprised Ian does not mention this. JP will no doubt supply very good Fax Charts later tonight.
  7. I totally agree with you. Also the intensity of the ppn will add to the cooling effect.
  8. MetO are suggesting Croydon Council prepare for heavy snow The intensity of the ppn will combine with the upper level cooling effect to produce snow. The low pressure coupled with the very cold air is very rigid, hence one of the reasons GFS is going for heavy snow. This could all change in a few hours time, but it is showing heavy snow at the moment
  9. Models are not going to handle this interesting snowy cycle change very well. The Fax Charts are our best bet here as the MetO's scientist Bod's will use theur wisdom and knowledge to the full. Expecting really good Fax Charts later on JP
  10. The cold circulation this Sunday will be very rigid which means changes are possible and could favour the SE with snow.
  11. The Fax Charts are very good as the MetO scientist bods apply their human touch
  12. Gritters went out when the brief heavy snow began. MetO were late notifying Croydon Council of that incoming ppn. As you can imagine, ice will be a feature, hence the gritting tonight.
  13. Also, if the intensity of the ppn is heavier, this will add to the cooling effect
  14. Only letting this thread know what bulletin was issued by the MetO. This could change, but let's remember the MetO have other models we the go public do not have access to, so you never know
  15. MetO have advised Croydon Council to expect 10cm of snow on Sunday and a further 10cm on Monday
  16. Croydon Council have been informed of a possible snow event Sunday/Monday
  17. With a few more tweaks here and there, GFS will be on par with ECM & UKMO
  18. Hi JP, A very good point about the sea temps. Keep up the great work you do. Many really appreciate the time you spend collating model data and sharing on this blog
