It really is like a tropical paradise down there! Certainly felt like that when I went there three years ago. Looking at the picture you’d think it was abroad! I know it gets cooler in autumn and winter but the climate is magnificent compared to most of the U.K.

Its the mild winters that makes it pretty safe to grow things like that. I'm not sure what the August average is for Torquay but July is 21C and January is 9C. Although I have seen ice here right by the seafront where I live its still pretty rare.

They have a lovely sub tropical garden in the Scilly Isles where the August average is 19C and January 10C! A nine degree difference, not much land to generate cold or heat, permanently mild there.

And now it's clearing the tip of Cornwall.

I'm hopeful for some Sunshine later this evening. Basically the exact opposite of the current METO forecast for Salisbury.

    It's currently cloudy as.

You can see the clear blue down on Porthmeor beach on its way.

  3. Enjoy the sun everyone its already very cloudy here on the eastern side of Lyme Bay, with temps widely 23C-27C. Looks like heavy cloud is now into Cornwall on the St Ives cam although plenty of people on the beach. First pic St Ives, second pic Torquay which looks darker on the cam than it actually is, its still pretty bright here.

  4. Currently 22C-24C. There are two stations near me reporting 18C/19C but those are wrong and often give out weird information. Paignton is hottest right now with 4 stations across Paignton seafront over to Goodrington and Broadsands reporting 24C and one is at 25C. The other side of the bay in Brixham its 23C-24C. And so early in the morning so its a pretty special day here today.

The cloud is into Cornwall already it can be seen clearly on the St Ives webcam here: https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/united-kingdom/england/st-ives/porthmeor-beach.html

Although its still sunny there is thicker cloud on its way. Also looks like a thick fog bank quite a way of Porthmeor beach.

  5. Fantastic morning temps currently 17C-19C across the bay. Overnight lows 12C-14C. Yesterday was a great day too but it had the worst plane haze I've seen for a long time. Lots of it out at sea and even worse inland. Fortunately the bay stayed between the two until late afternoon when the inland haze moved in. It was still warm though however it was very windy in exposed parts.

First picture Torquay inner harbour right now. Second picture yesterdays plane haze.

  6. Currently clear blue sky and temps 16C - 18C across the bay. Yesterday reached 22C - 24C+ depending on the exact location. Its very hilly here and location makes a big difference, it is great walking along a hillside and seeing the shimmer of heat rising up. There was quite a lot of cloud around inland yesterday and at times hardly any. Non of which troubled the bay as it melted away as it got close to the water. Thats what happens most of the time but occasionally its the opposite where we have cloud the doesn't melt until it gets a few miles out to sea. Last year on a trip to Dartmouth it was cloudy all day but just out at sea clear blue sky all day. Very frustrating.

Some pictures from yesterday. I noticed that people even have to wear face masks when set on the outside top deck of a ferry.

  7. When I saw the radar this morning I feared it would be another stinker but by 12:30 the cloud was well broken with plenty of hot sunshine. I was surprised because of the earlier cloud, its also been a very humid day. I took a walk through town then up into the hills above the marina to Meadfoot Beach. Was there for an hour and then walked along the hillside back to the inner harbour. By then it was mostly clear blue skies.

    What a surprise today was!

I checked 3 weather stations near me and all of them reached over 25C today.

  8. We've had a lovely few days here in Torquay with yesterday being the sunniest and quite warm. Yesterday was probably the best day we've had for a while. The sun is out this morning again but there's a lot of cloud coming into Devon and Cornwall from the NW. I can see on the radar that Dartmoor is splitting it which is usually great for Torquay so I'm not too sure what's going to happen today but we may end up with plenty of sunshine?

The great Spring that we've had has helped the Musa Basjoo Japanese banana a lot, and I'm not too sure how early they come into fruit but I took some pics of one I saw yesterday that definately had fruit already. The flowers are incredibly exotic.
