  1. Watching a cell producing some lightning over Norfolk at the moment - saw a magnificent bolt from the blue but it happened to be the ONLY strike I didn't get on camera. Bloody fuming but I've got some other good footage at least.
  2. Just finished editing my video from yesterday: Some lightning shots from the storm that passed to my south: And some that passed to my north. The back of this storm looked like it was rotating but it was quite hard to tell..
  3. Just had a fantastic storm here. It wasn't a direct hit but it was close enough for me to see some awesome CGs.
  4. Saw some distant lightning earlier. Here's a stacked image of three frames
  5. I am currently seeing bolts of lightning to my SE. I don't know how, but I am
  6. Last night was probably the best night-time UK storm I've seen since 2018. This was my view to the south just after 11PM - facing the cell that had just departed Winchester and was near W London. There was loads of orange CC lightning with the odd CG, and was exceptionally bright considering its distance. Later, a cell developed 15 miles to my west and brought some really bright flashes. This had a pretty interesting structure to it as well. I suddenly heard rumbling to my south though, so I headed to the back of my house and watched the storm as it approached. The flashes were fairly frequent and I saw an absolute ton of CGs on its eastern flank. It wasn't long before I encountered a close CG over the house and into a random field nearby - so close in fact it was like watching the bolt in slow motion as it gradually beaded out. I'm gutted I missed the bolt but my microphone did a great job on picking up the loud peel of thunder. closelightingstrike18may.mp4 It then went on to produce another relatively close CG that I somewhat caught with my phone, but not my main camera: The rain arrived but then sodded off a minute or two later which caught me by surprise. By now, the lightning was to the east of my location and most strikes were intracloud with the odd fork/CG thrown in. I also tried a bit of lightning photography with my Lumix. They're not the best photos but they will do for now. ISO was set to 100 and shutter speed was about 20 secs. The flashing continued for a solid hour as it progressed NE until it went out of my reach. I've also uploaded a video based off it! Sorry for the loud typing at the beginning - my brother was on his PC and I couldn't record the video elsewhere. But, yeah... that was a nice surprise. A great start to the storm season! (and apologies for the spam btw)
  7. That was easily one of the best night-time storms I've had in ages. Constant close CGs and amazing thunder. I honestly don't know what else to say. Gonna try and edit/upload the footage ASAP!
  8. Just caught a huge fork across the sky on camera! Holy s#@t!!
  9. CW have just issued a day two MDT risk Convective Weather CONVECTIVEWEATHER.CO.UK Forecasting thunderstorms and severe convective weather across the British Isles and Ireland for up to the next 5 days.
  10. It definitely sounded like it judging by the thunder as well - it was similar to a sonic boom.
  11. Latest UKV looks pretty stonking for SE England on Wednesday evening..
