  1. -2c to start the day ground frozen pretty hard otherwise bright blue sunny skies really nice midwinter day with a moderate wind Days streetching allowing me to do a few jobs outside. this afternoon. Not too sure about tomorrow though!!!!!!
  2. 2c start almost calm{ very nice} and sunny intervals all morning. Shifted sheep and have got into garden this afternoon. Cows going ba in neep field picking any they missed .First time since October they have done this as its usually been too wet or windy they just fill up on clean ones and then head straight back to gate to come inside again
  3. Some horrendous gusts of wind this afternoon so gave up on jobs outside . Descending wind from the south off the Cairngorms Odd sunny intervals highlighted the African sand in the sky. Top temperature 14.5c
  4. Very windy overnight but mild currently 9c.Slowly starting to dry up a bit. Hope this continues.
  5. Wet overnight and big drop in temperature from 10c to 1c this morning Fine cold sunny day with fresh west wind getting cooler late afternoon down to 4c currently. Just wish we could get some settled weathet ground as wet as I have ever seen it.
  6. As above an almost average winters day mostly dry fresh wind and sunny intervals with maximum temperature if 7c.Humidity lower so a bit of drying going on.
  7. Cats queued up to come in this morning after working all night .Then they and the dog formed an orderly queue outside lounge door waiting for log burner to be lit. No flies on them.
  8. Wild wet and windy Another dark miserable day. Even this dry area is getting fed up of all this rain Rivers are all running very high.
  9. The Saga of the partially felled trees continues on the farm road. Field fence flattened this morning. Forester says machine was coming today anyway but has said they will reinstate fences and stone walls Electricity firm take trees down in red zone next power lines and second machine takes down rest. Any saving gone in new fences etc. Internal dispute in milling companies in house transport seems to have been the problem. Without being political this country is in a mess A 6 week job from cutting to clearance has taken 19 months and counting.
  10. Torrential rain here for the last couple of hours on a gale force southerly wind at 10c. Really hoping some high pressure shows up soon.
  11. The frozen snow remaining on farm road brings back memories of the sixties and seventies when if you got the usual heavy fall at New Year then from then to Mid March it was possible to have a snowy walk in one of these cold spots in the woods during any mild interlude. Did not need to snow again providing there was the occasional ground frost to preserve the frozen snow.
  12. Mostly calm dull day here with little wind Now windy with driving rain in the last 30 minutes. Still ice and frozen snow on farm road between two partially felled woods. Ground was just starting to dry up a bit too. Managed to fill in worst of potholes on farm road this afternoon in good conditions.
  13. Congratulations Northern Strath All the Best . My two were winter babies .Both in their 30s Time Flies.
  14. Just to add have always treated March as winter up here on the farm. Since we are closer to the Arctic North and East winds in spring are always colder and their frequency also increases in spring.
  15. Nice bright afternoon remaining snow crunched up by 4.00pm at air temperature of 2c. Out to dentists early pm side roads and car parks still very icy. Small hill near dentist everyone just getting stuck me just cruised up not winter tyres but all season ones since Mrs Northernlights retired enough to give you grip on this ice.
  16. Clearing skies and slush dnd ice already crunching up with 3c air temperature
  17. Still 2c with lots of snow inland but very slushy/windy at our level. Sky still looks wintry and if we get a few blue sky patches I am sure we will see a ground frost in prone spots.
  18. Just stopped and we have 15cms total now after the last 12 hours of showers added to the 5cms earlier in the week
  19. Snowing again here with a breeze getting up. If we get some drifting overnight then the drifts will probably resist the thaw for a number of days especially as my local forecast on here gives the possibility of at least a ground frost most nights next week when sky clears Remember ground is very chilled. Ground frost will happen under clear sky in shelter out of mild wind very easily. Maybe not quite so mild as further south. If some of the drifts hang on for a week or so then maybe the ancients sayings may come true ."Its waiting for more" Seen this loads of times after cold spells in the past going back decades. Forecast very mild but clearing skies prevent it from getting too mild and then 5he next cold spell shows up.
  20. Just had to get a photo of this really stormy Arctic looking horizon with some really fine colours in the late afternoon sky. Currently -1c Been a fabulous cold spell up here.
  21. Following on from this morning we have had several moderate snow showers. Some more photos from round the Firth Currently -1c As said yesterday a really good 3xample of a snowy arctic northerly. To answer Hairy Celt I was washing a trailer last Sunday morning Big shower came in off the Firth tuned instantly to snow and its never really got above freezing since . Of note is the snow lying right to the edge of the sea shore right round the Firth
  22. Another light shower on this morning with lots more to the north. Snow dog loves it
  23. The intensity of the showers bright blue skies between them and the strong stormy looking clouds along with vivid greys and yellows do take me back to some of the snowy northerlies of the sixties and seventies . The low humidity of the Arctic air is impressive too. Some icicles forming on steading roof too. A lovely old school snowy northerly and it's happening in January as it should
