  1. Exactly the same here Put wintering sheep into fresh field yesterday and they are still finding mud to splash through making them look less than white
  2. Natures harbinger of winter for me turned up in our fields today as 6 Whooper Swans landed. Winter arriving in Western Russia and Scandinavia drives them westwards towards us.
  3. More rain last night making ground conditions even soggier than ever. No ploughing or muck spreading. Not even able to lift neeps for inside cattle although cows going to neeps every day for a row behind electric fence. Hopefully all change next weekend if we get high pressure and just enough frost to dry surface and firm it up but not too severe and freezing it solid. Lower humidity air would help too as we would like to take cows and calves in but inside pneumonia risk for calves is very high even. with a pneumonia vaccine. Its been a very long spell of very high humidities which is really bad for respiratory diseases in both man and animals. Farmers are never happy whatever the weather. Mild and dry today with maximum temperature of 10c
  4. Third day in a row of cold misty dank conditions the worst of November weather. High of 4c yesterday and currently 7c At least the mist and fog of the last few days has gone with moderate breeze now. Somewhat clearer skies are trying to push in from the west.
  5. Drizzly and damp all day with light rain this evening This being driven on by another east wind.If these east winds are still around in a months time then some snow should be falling even at low levels
  6. Fabulous sunny day after a cold start at-2c .First proper winters day with frost lying in the shade all day Currently 1c and clear. Delivered a lot of hay this afternoon and brought round bales of straw in to keep rain and frost off them
  7. Cool start to the day at 4c with a heavy shower late pm.Currently clear and 1c. Lasting snows seem to have returned to the mountain's Ben Wyvis has had a fresh cap most days in the last couple of weeks.
  8. Cool start at 3c but mostly sunny all day. Setting sun highlighted a solitary wintry shower to the east colouring it pink should have had a photo . A very wintry sunset at 2c .Looks like there will be an air frost tonight.
  9. Some misty drizzly showers this afternoon with very clear air at times giving a striking view of one of the Sutors of Cromarty ¹
  10. Brighter day with sunny periods but high cloud rolled in late afternoon lifting temperature from 4c to 7c. No chance of seeing Aurora tonight unless it clears
  11. Fine start to the day at 10c but fog rolled in late morning and remained all day giving a very seasonal day . Curently 10c. At least ground getting a chance to dry out.
  12. Finally stopped raining after 24 hours of steady rain. Got soaked a few times today feeding cattle outside getting a new calf to drink and shifting electric fence in neeps. Some minor flooding on local roads
  13. 2c with a ground frost start to the day with another hazy photo of Ben Wyvis showing fresh snow down to about 1000 feet this mornin Yestetday
  14. A wintry looking sunswet has resulted in our first air frost as we are currently -0.5c. Grass is sparkling in the moonlight. The photo is looking NE across the Firth to the North Sea. Small showers coming along coast on the light easterly wind.Maybe a sign of things to come this winter Certainly a wintry feel to the end of October this year. Know it does not always last.13
  15. Cool mostly sunny day with odd light showers coming along coast from east Photo a bit hazy but shows a fresh cap of snow on Ben Wyvis0 currently 5c so a frost on the way tonight
  16. Fascinating to think that we went from high summer conditions/temperatures in mid September and making hay to a couple of days of reasonable snow cover on the mountains in mid October a proper wintry scene. A really quick switch of seasons for our climate Currently a few light showers but clear spells between allowing temperature to drop to 4c with potentially a frost at dawn
  17. Fairly stormy night with a strong SE wind and moderate outbreaks of drizzly rain often misty as well .Currently 7.5c. Lots of leaves off trees too overnight making it look increasingly wintry.
  18. Fine start to day here clear surface drying up, calm and currently 9c. Next week does not look so settled
  19. Fabulous day here too with blue skies and slowly drying up. Mountains to the NW including Ben Wyvis snow covered above 1700 feet or so and it remained all day. Really good looking behind the autumn colours of the trees.
  20. Old school winter still had snow lying in shaded areas of wood in mid March 2010 so you could take a walk in spring sunshine outside the wood and return to a winter walk in the wood
  21. Dreich and wet all day at 6c maximum. Appears to be clearance coming up from the south.
