  1. So If I had 2 sealed containers, one mimicking the atmosphere as it was at 280ppm CO2 & another with our current 420ppm CO2 & applied the same amount of solar forcing to both which would become the hottest & by how much?

  2. Do I recall a lot of moaning, back in the day, when advice was given about the S.E. needing to look at planting more 'Mediterranean type plants' that could cope better with heat/drought?

I suppose folk were wrong about that too eh?

  3. They always go back to Romans and their bloody viniculture.....there is a letter from an officer describing his time at 'Blackstone edge' (up the road from here?) and his moans of the cloud, mist/drizzle/rain/cold ring as true today as it was back then!

England is a record sparkling white producer....has been for years

I can find no Roman reports on the quality of English wines.....

  4. Sometimes you don't need go as far as a PHD to know some theory or other is correct...simple 'observation can, in many instances, suffice no?

Look at the 'flat Earth Theory?

Were the Earth 'flat' the Cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.........

"cleaning the air" suggests we are actually cleaning the air by some form of pollution removal.

With the particulates Mother N. already has a way of 'dropping' it out of the atmosphere?

As I see things China scrubs far more of its 'dirty' outputs than it has over its economic development?

I'm sure this must have impact on the regions directly downwind of that 'pall'?

  6. Since I 'hung up my saddle' in the climate debate (2014) I've seen more of the folk that I have contact with raise their awareness to the Emergency than I ever saw over near 2 decades battling in places like this?

I now feel that it is all a matter of 'positioning'?

Sit facing a person & it is far easier for them to become an opponent than if they're sat next to you?

I'm sure this is what has happened since I stopped trying to help folk to knowledge & let them ask the questions themselves?

They might be surprised at the answer, it may will be quite 'detailed', but then they did ask!

On another matter I've found the most persuasive folk on climate change are the folk who have travelled from 'Denier' to Scientifically aware?

  7. I think there was an amount of head scratching through the 90's & into the noughties at the 'shortfall' in expected warming (feeding the denier trolls?) but, as we found in israel in the late 40's 'pan evaporation rates' helped highlight just how much energy arriving at the top of the atmosphere made it through to the ground?

Pan evap rates are again on the increase downwind of China/SW Asia as folk there try & clean up their emissions to spare their city dwelling populations

I'm sure if you search the web you can find the 'BBC Horizon' prog looking at our discovery/understanding of 'Global Dimming'?

  9. Back in 'Western European' style clothing but still in vest & shorts & in my hammock at 10:25 pm.....this I can do!

In all honesty the 'Kaftan' was a pleasant surprise?

Anything beyond 25C & I melt (these days?) but neary a drip today???

I'm glad I 'tried it out ' as I now feel more confident about getting through the next few days (and future heat incursions?) & not suffering as I have since the Post-Viral Syndrome messed me up in 2010 (every time it's warm?)

Each to their own I suppose but I'm a convert! (17 quid!) ....who'd have thunk desert dwellers could come up with clothing that deals with extreme heat....thousands of years ago... eh?

  10. Well the Kaftan arrived......I don't know whether I look more like an 'extra' from the set of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' or someone lost on their way to the cross burning.......(better keep the 'hood' down eh?)

Well it's only for House & Garden wear I suppose?

That level 4 heat warning did say 'dress appropriately' did it not? Can't get more appropriate than desert garb eh?

I popped into the local clothes shop for a Kaftan in preparation for the upcoming heatwave but at the till i found i had to sign a waver that upon my purchase i would immediately depart Yorkshire and never return! 😂😂

I'm a Lanc's lad born and bred.....I seem to recall we won the 'War of the Roses'......they can all just stained glass window off!, I'm wearing it!!!

  12. It might be the heat talking or it might just be genius.......

I've been well gel of my Mrs floating around the garden in her floaty dresses (and nowt else!) over the recent heat.....

So in preparation of the coming heat I've gone full 'Demis Roussos' & bought a white, hooded, kaftan (for garden use) over the expected heat....& I intend it to be the only clothing on my bones!!!!

  13. Well if that was the 'coolest day' of this hot spell we've had it! (as my Dad used to say about many things when they were done!)

A few spots of rain but still very warm & humid with the Sun now breaking through!

We are in the 1/4 of England where 'cloud' is meant to moderate the heat up until Friday....if today was an example of such I'll will not even enjoy our 'Cool days' ....as for Friday onward?

I'm taking to a cold bath...you can just call me Jean-Paul Marat....

  14. Well that's the end of the rain for here (not that there has been enough to even wet the ground?) & it is very humid feeling (to me?) compared to other recent 'Sunny' days.....I don't know how 'fresh' it'll feel later as the air cools & r/h rises!

  15. If you were under that 'rain' you'd find out most of it does not see the ground!!!

MetO radar showing some heavy bursts here over the past hours and we saw spots!

EDIT: I don't know what our cloud base is but most of the air traffic is under it so that is a lot of air to fall through for any raindrop!
