  1. me neither, definite rotation and torrential rain. people will be getting a hammering, could this spawn something more sinister?
  2. oh dear, do you have any drains, streams etc, close by - it was those which caused most of the mayhem up here. also rain just running off fields, down hills, under railway bridges or just in dips in the road. if those are in residential areas houses will get badly flooded.
  3. looks to be some particularly heavy pulses near the back edge of the rainband , south west of oxford
  4. i think your right gmg had this done its worst in Hull, Sheffield, North Lincs and Doncaster it would have been total carnage - it may well be yet down south but lets hope some lessons were learnt the hard way.
  5. Current status: Flood Warning Status last changed at: 12:55 on 20-Jul-2007 Location: The River Stour from Shipston-on-Stour to Clifford Chambers including Tredington
  6. yes, keeping an eye on it coming up from the south but according to NW extra radar its only moderate rain 4-6 mm / hr.
  7. Dogs, keep an ear to the local radio. it was invaluble to us up north in the last batch of flooding. trouble is when it (the water) wants to pay you a visit - it does as it likes. have the local council issued sandbags?

  9. Hope everyone doesnt need this but in case.. What to do when you hear a flood warning : listen out for warnings on radio and TV and phone Floodline on 0845 988 1188 for more information move pets, vehicles, valuables and other items to safety alert your neighbours, particularly the elderly put sandbags or flood boards in place, but make sure your property is ventilated; plug sinks/baths and put a sandbag in the toilet bowl to prevent backflow be ready to turn off gas and electricity (get help if needed); unplug electrical items and move them upstairs if possible co-operate with emergency services and local authorities - you may be evacuated to a rest centre do as much as you can in daylight; doing anything in the dark will be a lot harder, especially if the electricity fails
  10. YOU STILL ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO WANTS 4 INCHES OF RAIN.. consider all the owners of 30,000 houses in hull affected last time - i am sure they dont want another 4 inches of rain.

  14. the ground is already saturated as can be seen by the flash flooding already this week. Being honest i am not just a little relieved personally that the main area of risk appears to be moving away from my area. however i really fear for vast swaithes of the country with this..
  15. Sensationalist Headline...... Unless something is done to tackle the effects of global warming within the next 10 years, Sprunehorpe could eventually be wiped off the map. This is the view of former vice-president of the United States Al Gore - Bill Clinton's number two for eight years - who warned melting polar ice caps could cause the town to one day disappear beneath the sea. His concerns were discussed during a conference attended by Sprunehorpe MP Elliot Morley. where do we stand on this... headline grabbing tosh or truth... the full article in last night's paper talked of the sea level rising by something barmy like 80M................
  16. take a look at the high sea temperatures between cuba and jamaica, this would cause him to explode back into life
  17. ex daily mail web site Four people were taken to hospital after a freak tornado lifted a portable building into the air and dragged it for up to 70 feet. The injured were archaeologists and archaeology students working at a sand and gravel pit at Baston in south Lincolnshire. The tornado, which struck at around 3pm Thursday, was seen from several miles away by eyewitnesses. One man described debris, including planks of wood and pieces of metal, being sucked up to 200 feet into the air. A spokeswoman for Cemex, which owns the site, said a total of five people had been hurt when the temporary building rolled over in the high winds. Four were taken to Peterborough District Hospital by ambulance while a fifth was treated on site. Those taken to hospital were said to have non-life threatening injuries. The team were on the site working for archaeological consultants brought in by Cemex to examine part of the site prior to quarrying. The Cemex spokeswoman said: "There was a steel container on the site being used for a canteen and it seems those working there took shelter in it from the extreme weather conditions. "The container was lifted by the high winds and rolled a number of times causing the injuries." In a statement issued later by the company the spokeswoman added: "CEMEX confirms that four people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries after a steel container they were using for shelter was lifted into the air and rolled over several times by tornado-like weather conditions. "An additional person received cuts and bruises that were dealt with on site." The five had been engaged by Northampton Archaeology to carry out an archaeological survey at CEMEX's Manor Pit Quarry in Baston Fen, Lincolnshire prior to sand and gravel extraction commencing at the site. Youth worker Denham Hughes, 42, saw the tornado develop from his home in the nearby village of Langtoft. He said: "I was working outside when at about 3pm it starting going very very dark. The clouds were rotating and it was getting a little bit scary. I called my wife and daughter to come and look. "It then progressed into a funnel and I could see it moving north towards Baston. I could see sheets of metal and planks of wood being sucked up into it. They were being sucked up to a height of 100 or 200 feet. "I could see the wind rotating and getting faster and faster. I watched the bottom of it split from the top of the rotating winds, then it joined up again. "I drove past Baston quarry and a guy there told me that there had been some people injured when a building had been picked up and thrown 70 feet. It was clearly very very localised but it was spinning immensely fast."
  18. -7 in Barton on Humber, At sea Level, near humber estuary - patchy freezing fog, 3-5 cm snow still lying
  19. incredible..... but how strong will it be when it makes landfall. it will hit cooler waters in the gulf but how much will it weaken.. Any idea where Alpha is going to spring up..
  20. Well its the third strongest in history and may well challenge Gilbert for the no. 1 spot in the next 12 hours before its intensity drops slightly due to eyewall replacement cycles. In any case when it does make landfall (perhaps south of Galveston) it will be at least a strong cat 4 IMO. Is this the perfect storm?
  21. storm now to my west, towards sMr Burnshorpe, intense thunder, lightening in distance. 24 deg C still.. looking good in north lincs
  22. <5mm on cars, roofs etc... plenty of rain everywhere else
