  1. Nout here. Won’t bother with radar watching today, it’s a futile exercise in this set up where I feel like we convince ourselves we’re in the path of a shower only for weather to indeed prove it’s a chaotic system. No amount of radar watching can will snow into existence - what happens, happens.
  2. Got some light snow on the northern edge of this more intense band, which is better than I had anticipated - I’d written off anything until reading your knowledgeable explanations - thank for these! Not quite sub-zero yet here though so will need some intensity to cool surfaces enough for any snow to settle. Hopefully we have a covering tomorrow to kick off a very interesting and unique week (or two!) ahead!
  3. They haven’t throughout today, so why will tonight/tomorrow be different? Is it just a matter of intensity, i.e. heavier pulses making it over before fizzling out, or stronger winds transporting them faster? I will keep tempering my expectations, I’ve come from Edinburgh and experienced that proper dumping in early March 2018 - I’ve been spoilt!
  4. Unfortunately I expect these will keep fizzling out over the Pennines. This week’s going to be a cold and dry affair. Anything more than 10 minutes of graupel will need a westerly regime.
  5. I'm a fairly new Manchester resident and I'm not familiar with any proper snowfall here, beyond the transient stuff the other week. What sort of set-up does Manchester fare well in? Watching the radar loop as the precipitation crosses the Pennines at the moment and it's like Andy Burnham has erected a gigantic physical shield over GM!
  6. Some of these temperature drops are extreme, this for Stoke-on-Trent (ISTOKEON32)
  7. Big, wet flakes here falling on a very fast-flowing Bridgewater Canal, unlikely to freeze over like it has in recent weeks. Wild day!
  8. An absolute deluge here in Manchester, I've never seen such a fast-moving Bridgewater Canal and I'm downstream from all the locks. The last hour of rain has been biblical! Edit: some of the white stuff getting mixed in now, wasn’t quite expecting that...
  9. I've just come from south Manchester where it's gone from zero wind to a continuous stiff, warm breeze in the last hour - impressive updraft on the Cheshire cell!
  10. Patiently waiting for these reds and pinks to slam into us, been staring out the window for an hour now, I think it's slowed down as it adopts a more westerly trajectory.
  11. Clouding over here after fairly solid sun and an unbearably humid early afternoon. Keeping a close eye on that Derby/Nottingham group, possibly some further intensification to be had over the Pennines.
  12. Managed to get some awesome slo mos here in central Manchester earlier this evening
  13. Suddenly very dark in central Manchester with heavy rain, lightning is out by Stockport so things should liven up shortly!
  14. Been keeping an eye on this for the last 30 minutes, looking west from central Manchester. Fairly sure there's some rotation to it with very low cloud and intense lightning. Quite the downpour too by the looks of it!
  15. Just got absolutely hammered here in central Manchester. Never seen/heard anything quite like it: sideways rain, rain that travels up the side of buildings and deafening wind. Multiple sirens blaring out across the city now. It’s the apocalypse people.
  16. Quite the storm heading up from the North Wales border towards Manchester, hoping for a direct hit! I've just moved here and have a lovely view of the trams from a fifth floor apartment, might try a timelapse.
  17. Don’t crush my dreams haha. Going to head into the centre of town and try catch it over the castle in anticipation!
  18. Western edge of this more general area of rain has pepped up a bit! Looks like we could be in luck in the Scottish capital after all!
  19. Looks like the cell over Northumberland has adopted a slightly easterly track, looks like we’ll miss it here ??
  20. Worth noting that temperatures in SE England haven't been peaking until 17:00 - 17:30 the past few days. Still an hour or so of heating left to push Cambridge and other spots over the record.
  21. Winter is finished, better luck next season. I fancy some warmth anyway.
  22. Cold rain now. Can't be too disappointed I suppose, it was just meant to be a cold cloudy day here.
  23. Light snow here in Edinburgh that wasn't forecasted by virtually every model. I see MetO just updated their yellow warning in Scotland to bring it eastwards. What's caused precipitation to move further inland from the west coast than predicted?
  24. We won't know anything until the future becomes the present and our eyes are glued to the radar, as is often the case with these knife-edge snow events - no use getting het up about one run vs another!
