  1. I meant early MAY above of course, not March!
  2. GFS 00Z op continues the extended heatwave in Southern Iberia next week through into early March & if anything has increased expected temperatures slightly. The heat carries on through to at least Thur 4th May now. If this event occurs in its length & severity as progged it is going to be an exceptional period (for all the wrong reasons). Even yesterday which only saw 850´s around 16C saw a max of 33.4C at Xativa, beating its daily record, in Valencia Province. The average max there should be around 23.5C, so it was about 10C up on that. We could well see 40C reached for the first time in Spain in April , which is about 4C up on the April record max there, which would be a huge jump though par for the course in todays world. .
  3. Already very warm today Wednesday, around Velez Malaga as of 0745Z, several stations up to 25/26C already there, similarly around Denia and Alicante. Inland in the Sierra Nevada some very low DPs overnight, a PWS at Lanjaron fell to TT16C, DP M23C RH 5% at about 03Z in N/NW winds descending off the mountains. On Monday here the records continued to fall, Malaga Centro Meteorologica beat its all time April record of 31.2C by reaching 33.7C at 1730 local. It beat its daily record by 10.5C! A wx station at Parque San Rafael in Malaga centre also reached 35.6C unofficially. Highest otherwise, officially was Coin on 35.0C in Malaga Province. Malaga Airport reached 33.5C at 1710 and broke its all time April record since 1980 of 33.1C set on Apr 17th just last year. Estepona beat its April record of 29.9C set in 2002 by 3C by reaching 34.3C, a jump of 4.4C. It beat its daily record by 11.2C. Lorca in Murcia beat its April daily record of 29.9C by reaching 32.4C. Sevilla Tablada equalled its previous April record of 33,2C set on April 25th 2002, in records back to 1980. It beat the daily record by 5.6C. It is the warmest temperature recorded so early in the year in Seville. Edited to update
  4. Hola todos, David in Almeria again reporting on just how incredibly dry it is already in Spain this year, esp S Spain. This is allowing some very low minina by night, and high maxima by day but also producing some extraordinarily low dewpoints and RHs. I dont know how it manages it but PWS Checa near Teruel has again fallen to a very low temp overnight of -13.0C. Yesterday, the 5th it excelled itself however and was -19.2C and the day before on the 4th -16,9C. The -19.2C was an April record for it- though it only goes back 4 years- and I suspect Espana as a whole IF it was official which its not. Personal Weather Station Dashboard | at Checa, Spain WWW.WUNDERGROUND.COM Links directly to weather station Other stations in the area were more like -3C to -5C still cold but not on a checaesque scale. I´d like to visit it to see quite why it falls quite so low regularly. Last year it was cold but nowhere near as cold as this April. Elsewhere in the northern Picos d Europe Banuelos & Los Tremellos in the Valle de Santebanez well south of Santander fell to -5C, and Marrabio Terverga, SW of Oviedo fell to -7.0C. In the far south Rasoplant, Zafarraya, SW of Alhama de Granada fell to -0.6C. In the valleys of the southern Alpujarras today some remarkably dry air again esp at Lanjaron where the temps at 0620 local was 9C, dewpoint an extraordinary -28C & RH 5%.It seems reasonable since at another PWS about 15km away it was also 9C, -19C and RH 12% and many places in the area were almost as low. Closer to us at a PWS at El Ejido the temps currently 21C, DP -17C RH 7%. Dry a bone is the word and at 2am local another at El Ejido North was 22C, DP-19C RH 6%. Even here in the city centre here in Almeria on Calle Regojicos (pronounced recko-hee-cos) we have 18C, DP -13C and RH 12%.
  5. Hola todos! I am Dave living in Almeria, Espana for 3 years now. The PWS at the rather marvellous cold spot of Checa has fallen to -14.0C overnight, making for a decidedly cold April night. PWS Checa Marimela was -7C. Officially Moron de Amalzan in Soria fell to -7.1C & Fresno de Cantespino in Segovia to -6.6C. The rather better known cold spot Molina de Aragon fell to -4.4C. Closer to our neck of the woods PWS Benamaurel fell to -0-1C. And PWS Terverga Marabio at 923m in the Picos d Europe just south of coastal Avila was -9C. Also very low DPs and RHs again esp in SE, PWS at Cazorla was 3C , DP -16C RH 22%, and at the La Sagra observatory (at 1790m) TT 4C , DP -18C, RH 18%. In the W Alpujarras the PWS at Lanjaron was TT 6C, DP -13C and RH 23%. But as ever that old PWS chestnut at Olula de Castro is lowest, atm its TT 15C, DP -16C RH 11%. Warming up rapidly here in Almeria centre however in light winds, after a min of 13C , where its already 22C as of 0810Z
