  1. Not the best charts for us, but it will be cold enough for snow with plenty of sharp showers moving in briskly from the north-west. If currents are strong enough, we could easily be seeing snow showers even here, some potentially heavy. We're not in the best position, but it'll have to do as an easterly is looking extremely unlikely. Do you remember last January 16th? There could well be a repeat next week. Charts were showing almost no snowfall in the Edinburgh area, yet we had blizzard conditions for most of the day
  2. Long term has consistently been looking too mild for my liking. Hopefully that will change though, fingers crossed. Monday looking very good for snow showers up north, possibly moving east as well. GFS P and gfs06 both showing quite consistent snow showers even over the Lothians.
  3. Lovely GFS run, snow showers moving much further east on the gfs06 compared to the 00. In the Lothians we can also get snow from north-westerlies, it's rare, but it happened last year with proper blizzards. On Tuesday we also had a good hour of snow when it wasn't even expected
  4. Can't see any chances of proper snow next week in the Lothians, but you'll definitely have more luck as you head west and then north.
  5. Time for us to crop them out I was looking for a nice snow chart for Scotland, couldn't find one so a cold one will have to do hopefully we'll be able to post some snowy ones tomorrow
  6. 850 temps are going positive now, so no snow anywhere in Scotland even if ground temperatures are low. And stormeh, you probably won't need a coat tomorrow. Looking fairly dry too, maybe the odd spot of drizzle at times.
  7. Looking great for Scotland, good potential for snow showers next week with daytime temps hovering just above 0. GFS ensembles for Edinburgh
  8. Next week certainly looking chilly, however it is way too early to say where or if it will snow. By Monday hopefully we should have a better idea. Drizzle here in Edinburgh, and temps starting to climb. Up to 11 by tomorrow morning
  9. +3C in Edinburgh, looks like it rained last night. All of yesterday's frost was washed away. Today's models postpone the colder air from Saturday afternoon to sunday evening, unfortunately. There is still a lot of uncertainty, but for now it looks like we could be having a very wet weekend, mild on Saturday and then slowly turning sleety and blustery through Sunday as the colder air moves in.
  10. An Italian site called ilMeteo, their forecasts are based on the ecmwf model. A few times it has been more accurate than the metoffice and bbc, for example during the December snowfall event. I also find the 0C altitude quite handy when determining if it will snow or not. Shame that uk sites don't offer such data in their forecasts (snow level and 0°C heights). GFS18 is quite painful, hopefully we get a better run in the morning... Anything but south-westerlies please!
  11. Brief flurry about half an hour ago in central Edinburgh too
  12. Worth keeping an eye on Saturday evening, heavy snowfall could occur.... ECMWF based forecast for Saturday in Edinburgh. 0C level dropping to 200m with snow down to the coast. GFS P confirms , whilst GFS operational goes for a much milder and drier solution
  13. Surprisingly we did see some snow in Edinburgh, even though it didn't settle. Still better than nothing, especially as it wasn't expected. Lasted about an hour, on and off. Now the sky is completely clear and the wind has died down. 0C, if conditions stay like this tomorrow morning could be very icy. That's it for snow here this week, staying cold until Thursday and then up to 9C on Friday exactly when the easterly was supposed to arrive
  14. The odd drifting snowflake here in central Edinburgh now, 2.5C. Unfortunately the front has already passed so it is mainly dry. Heavy snow showers across western Scotland tomorrow, especially the south-west. Will the current carry them over to the east as well? I doubt it, but we'll see.
  15. 5C already in central Edinburgh, temperature has been slowly creeping up in the gusty winds over the past couple of hours. Basically, we can forget about seeing snow here.
  16. Can't see any easterlies in sight on the models. North-westerlies yes, but they rarely bring snow to Edinburgh. Although last January we had a day of snow showers brought in on a north-westerly. Quite heavy ones too.
  17. Charts not really improving, very marginal for our area. I'll try and stay positive and keep an eye on the radar tomorrow. Currents are going to be quite strong, so maybe that will help drive the rainfall/snowfall across from the west.
  18. Wow, that's quite impressive! Being surrounded by hills you must get some good temperature inversions. Temperature inversions are quite rare in Edinburgh, we had quite a big one in December 2017, think it got down to -10/-11. Nothing really since then
  19. Where do you live? The north pole? So jealous
  20. Sun gradually breaking through the clouds here, +2C. Yesterday we got to +3C, felt very cold. Tonight if skies clear up temps could be dropping well below zero
  21. Thankfully it looks like the mild blip will be more shortlasted than initially predicted by GFS. One or two days max, then 850s should drop below zero again. Hopefully that shouldn't impact the snow cover too much. Also, quite a bit of snowfall between Monday and Tuesday, especially for more western areas. Unfortunately, looks like the Lothians could be getting just a couple of mm of precipitation, GFS p is showing less than a mm for Edinburgh. Will probably fall as rain too, since temperatures are borderline. Hopefully that front pushes further east with more determination than currently predicted
  22. Looks like I won't be getting much out of Tuesdays front. GFS P shows less than 1mm of total precipitation and GFS normal shows 3mm. Hopefully will see a few snowflakes floating about, BBC weather says light rain showers and 4C though
  23. Inland thanks to temperature inversions, but very mild along all the coasts apart from the south east of England.
  24. Was joking with my last comment, but considering how this winter has gone so far it wouldn't surprise me The long term definitely looks interesting, could see some major snowfalls with those charts. But let's wait until we start seeing them within a reasonable timeframe before we get too excited
