  1. Not yet. It's still 16 degrees inside. When it gets to 12-13 ill put it on.
  2. OK. So. Here's the thing, see. I'm a keen bicyclist (yes, one of the most hated groups of people, even though I'm considerate, and don't break rules like running red lights etc...) So, here are some of the hazards that mean I get restricted in my bicycling activities in wet and windy weather: Puddles - can be deep and hiding potholes and other hazards especially. One of my cycling friends took a tumble after hitting a hidden pothole in a puddle, went over the handlebars, smashed his face in. Sold his bike the next day Wind - especially traversing the peak district, a strong crosswind can easily blow one across the road, and into the fast 50mph traffic. Nearly happened to me before. Lesson learned Wet roads - poor braking distance, especially for a bike, which has a longer braking distance than a car. Risk of skidding over when breaking especially downhill. Yes, happened before. Lesson learned Wet roads - splashing mud and water all over you, and the bike. Bike must be cleaned comprehensively after the ride. On that note, bike parts go rusty kinda quickly when they get wet Electrical equipment on bike starts to play up if it gets waterlogged (such as the bike computer) Getting soaking wet - even in light rain, and especially windy weather, added to the speed of the bike you will get a comprehensive soaking, and it will go through almost anything you wear Having to wear coats etc... is impractical, as it stops you having the required flexibility to adequately ride the bicycle I hope this makes sense. For goodness sake.
  3. Where's the mists and mellow fruitfulness. This is the worst of the worst for us folks who enjoy outdoor activities. Don't mind cold but not this windy wet rubbish.
  4. Facts: July was 0.9°C cooler than average here (I've been recording the weather since 2007, and use official met office statistics). July had 112 hours of sunshine here, which is about 70 below average. July had 152mm of rain here, which was almost three times the average. August had 151 hours of sunshine here - 30 less than average. All facts. Any impressions anyone might have of July and August being poor, are supported by these facts, especially in my area. Your statements that people who have experienced the summer as mostly poor are "denying the facts", are simply wrong. Based on - the Met Office statistics, available on their website. For example, it's not hard to access the data: Monthly data for a plethora of weather stations (this example is Sheffield): https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/pub/data/weather/uk/climate/stationdata/sheffielddata.txt Long term climate averages most relevant to this time in history (this example is Sheffield): Sheffield Cdl (South Yorkshire) UK climate averages WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Sheffield Cdl UK climate averages So it's a matter of comparing the numbers for the relevant months (for say, avg. max, avg. min, precipitation, sunshine hours) against the long term average. July and August were clearly poorer than average for people who like sunnier, drier and warmer summer weather, if you know basic addition subtraction (for example, July's avg. max of 21.4 minus July 2023's avg. max = 1.3°C difference), so, July 2023 being 1.3°C cooler than the long term average.
  5. I heard 3-4 rumbles and saw two lightning flashes but it's all going now.
  6. So glad to be on the correct side of the front today. 15°C here - and overcast. Blissful.
  7. 21 degrees, overcast with drizzle here. Whoopie whoopie what excitement.
  8. No storms here since July, and missed the lot this month as well so I'm going storm chasing tomorrow, had enough of missing out. I expect to see insane lightning with insane hail and insane winds and insane rain and insane loud loud loud thunder all afternoon tomorrow.
  9. Reached 24.3°C in the computer room and has since dropped.
  10. 23°C in my computer room. It really doesn't get warm/hot in here thankfully.
  11. As a heat hater, gotta say it's not been bad here at all thankfully, only 25 degrees here today in SE Sheffield and quite a lot of cloud coming in.
  12. Appalling trash weather here today, gusty winds and sideways drizzle like a bad day in October.
  13. I don't like warm nights inside. My west facing apartment bedroom gets warmest in the evening. Seems like there won't be much heat anyway next week. GFS has no more than 26°C in my area on Friday next week and that's it, just one day then thankfully.
  14. Feels like a loooooooooooooong October this year with the morbidly intense overcast and frequent rain since early July going on and on without remitt. Not a complaint so much as an observation. Just doesn't seem like there's been a summer this year. Straight into Autumn after the two weeks of sun in June. Weird sensation. Bit like being a woodlouse hanging out under some soil or a rock.
  15. If this July was a person, it would look like this.
  16. There's just been a thunder shower in SE Sheffield go over. It went from 0-100 on radar in 5 minutes flat.
  17. Basis of this thread: This comes from a discussion on a foreign weather forum, where people are discussing whether British people find 25°C hot or not. So, it's a simple "yes" or "no" poll. This isn't about judging anybody or anything of that sort, a basic questionnaire so I can get as many answers as possible in the poll as I'm collecting data.
  18. Showers coming towards Sheffield have started to die out. Are we just going to get a blunderstorm, and no thunderstorm?
  19. Enjoying this July. No unpleasant hot weather and some refreshing light rain today. Been hot for sleeping this weekend though. I like indoor temps about 20°C in summer and 12-15°C in winter so I can sleep like a baby.
  20. A thunderstorm came through SE Sheffield in the last hour, seemed a bit DOA at first, but over my location it suddenly gained a second wind and had some overhead thunder and a loud gunshot thunderclap when I was in the woods. But it didn't rain heavily despite this.
  21. There's been no bad weather here this July. All normal British weather and exactly on average.
  22. Surprised one of the biggest weather forums has no thread for end of month summaries, so I made one for all the summaries of the month. Anyway this is the data for SE Sheffield, June 2023 Max Temperature: 29.4°C (12th) Avg. Max Temp: 22.0°C Mean Temp: 16.9°C Avg. Min Temp: 11.9°C Min Temperature: 7.2°C (4th) Lowest Max Temp: 13.2°C (6th) Highest Min Temp: 17.5°C (24th) Total precipitation: 57.1mm Days equal or >1.0mm: 2 (18th, 20th) Days rain inc. trace: 15 Sun hours: 206.6 Days with thunder heard: 2 (12th, 18th) Days with hailstorm: 1 (18th) Average pressure: 1019mb Comments: East winds and cool first 9 days. 10th-25th milder than average with a few warm days and the odd convection. Cool and showery end.
