Check out the nogaps, almost a carbon copy of the GEM!
-
Nice to see good solid agreement in the ensembles!
-
Travel to the coast then PP
Mammatus
Thats a good point about the coast,in a few hundred years time when the sea level rises sufficiently, the coastline could be outside PP's door
-
Problem is...the showers are expected to be largely for the coastal areas; with few expected to come in-land further than say, 8-10 miles: -
Would agree with that,we need a stronger onshore wind to push the showers further inland.

The FAX charts don't look particularly snowy to me, not for us anyway.
Maybe i am reading it wrong, but that chart looks great for the north of england.
Then again that chart is for saturday, which is well into f.i. the way things are going.
-
Its incredible, this looks so much like a miss the North East event again. What do we have to do?
I take consolation that the South and Midlands will get ANOTHER huge dumping of 2-3cm, which we wouldn't even notice up here anyway.
Hope your dome is well constructed,as it might collapse under the weight of snow if the latest fax charts are accurate.

18z 168hrs has its near hurricane a lot further back than the 12z.
-
Yes,the 18z will be dribbling out, already reports of snow from eastern scotland and the coast of north yorkshire.
Hopefully the 18z will trend towards the ukmo.
-
The model rollercoaster is certainly in high gear at the moment,it really can do your head in sometimes!
The 00z ecm looked to be going the way of the previous gfs runs and was much improved, however the gfs then throws in a poor 00z and 06z run which almost got me reaching for the medicine cupboard ,then i viewed the stunning fax charts, and almost cracked open the champagne!
As for this evenings models, the strong potential for many of us to see some snow is certainly there, how much and exactly where is another question.
The ukmo tonight has to contain the best charts of winter so far.

QUOTE(Paul B @ 4 Feb 2007, 09:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>18Z off, and already the Greenland High is a tad stronger with the ridge a tad further west at T+00!I await the 18z with hope, optimism and just a touch of trepidation.

Remember the easies way to compare the models is here:
http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=modelcomp;sess=
Nice illustration of the way in which both the GFS and GEFS are progging height rises to the norhtheast, yet the ECM is having none of it...
I keep forgetting about that model comparison page, certainly beats posting all the charts like i just did!
-
Well it seems the ecm has some sort of support from a couple of the other models, albeit the "cannon fodder"ones.

Hopefully the gfs can trample them into the ground,as thats all they deserve.

Sorry if i scared anyone with the size of my ramp
The fax chart for monday shows a couple of troughs heading for northern and eastern scotland,so i would think some heavy snow showers to come there.
What a great run the 18z was, hopefully the trend will continue.

Theres a ramp.
Damn you text editor.
Now i look a fool.
try this one for size!

That map looks fine to me!
Certainly an interesting week ahead with lots of cold frosty weather for many, and of course the threat of snow later on.
It also seems that every day the return of the atlantic is pushed further back.
-
Had some wintry showers this morning, but a couple of heavier snow showers this afternoon which left a temporary covering.
Turning very icy now.
Its also great to see some other areas of the country have had a covering of snow.
-
Had a light covering of snow here this evening
-
A light covering of frozen hail/sleet this morning first thing, making the roads quite slippery.
Had a heavy hail shower just after 1pm,and a fairly heavy snow shower around 3pm which left a light covering, roads are becoming icy again now.
-
Woke up this morning to the first covering of snow this winter, was all gone in a couple of hours but still nice to see.
-
Some heavy wintry showers here today,as well as some light sleet and snow last night.
-
AO= Arctic Oscillation
SSTA's=sea surface temperature anomilies
ppn=precipitation
-
Just had a wintry shower here.
Started mostly rain with the odd flake then became mostly snow.
OON do you think the mountains in the Lakes will have lying snow on after this?
I'm going tomorrow and hoping to see some snow.
Yes indeed, the first snow flakes of the winter for these parts.
-
Easily the best storm of the year for my location, lasted roughly an hour between 10 and 11 pm,heavy rain also.
-
A mixture of hail, sleet, rain and snow in the showers today.
Only missing some thunder for the complete set.

I suppose i could have posted an ecm chart, but that wouldn't be in my nature
"I think therefore i ramp" this should be your new motto P.P.
