  1. Jo - off topic, but I seen you're in East Lothian, and I've occasionally seen a photo of a standing stone that sometimes accompanies the daily Netweather e-mail. It very much reminds me of the stone near East Linton which I've driven past recently - do you know if it's the same one?
  2. Light snow in Musselburgh, not far from the coast; showing as rain on the radar.
  3. All this chat about the probable SSW, and the apparent assumption that it will make cold here even more likely, makes me wonder what the chance is of it spoiling a good cold pattern rather than helping it?
  4. Also also: Now some heavy snow on the A1 by Haddington. Maybe from evaporative cooling at the back edge of this lump of weather?
  5. Also, looks like there’s snow on the Lammermuirs, implying the line is over about 200m.
  6. Out in rural East Lothian, some hoar frost, then heavy rain after about nine this morning. Some evidence of freezing rain, a little sleet. Now clearing. 1C according to the vehicle.
  7. Where's the red warning? I can see an orange one for wind in the south, but only yellows otherwise.
  8. Well it can't be due to a lack of obs from Christmas Day - not until later tomorrow at least!
  9. The models certainly give the impression of locked-in cold of some sort. I'm retaining a fair chunk of pessimism so that 3 degrees Celcius and sleet when it comes doesn't feel like a huge let-down. I'm hoping for cold weather round here, anything more is an unexpected bonus in this part of the world. However, a couple of weeks of near-constant snow like in 2009 wouldn't go amiss if it comes to that. And this time I'm not trying to have a kitchen installed at the same time. Happy Christmas all!
  10. There are lots of specialist words not in the dictionary. If people use it and people understand it, then it's doing exactly what it should.
  11. I enjoy the barely-contained chaos of the all-in models and ramping thread. It's fun!
  12. Weirdly I don't remember much about it apart from the disappointment of it ending. I was spoilt by the previous winter and the endless snow. Probably had travel problems, but again I can't remember if they were 09 or 10.
  13. 21.2℃, 63%. Lot of sun today to warm the place, which has been close to steady at just over 20℃ most evenings for the last few weeks. Probably another month or so, assuming unexceptional cold, before the heating gets considered - that's usually when it starts struggling to reach 19℃.
  14. The only time I recall seeing distant lightning was in the late 80s, driving out of Leeds towards the Pennines. The sky was flashing very regularly, but nothing ever came our way - I presume the storms were at least over Manchester way if not further. Being pre-internet and after the 9:30 weather forecast, I had no way of checking what was going on.
  15. Now there's a good idea, and I've got a fence to lash it to. From the first picture, it looks like yours has a diameter around 50mm, is that about right?
