  1. Yep. I dont suffer from S.A.D. though I know some on here do, that said I've found myself longing for a period of high pressure and some dryness and sun. I didn't think I'd ever utter these filthy words but even a Bartlett would be better than what we've had to endure for the last six weeks
  2. Just opened the curtains over the back door and spotted this fella busily stashing his food. He must have been reading this thread!!
  3. It's most likey due to topography. Scotland has many area of relatively high mountains and lower level valleys and coast. Wind will be pushed up the mountains and down the valleys causing much gustier winds than if the same low pressure was found further south where it is flatter.
  4. I've started a storm ciaran prediction competition: https://community.netweather.tv/topic/99496-storm-ciaran-prediction-comp/
  5. Thought we could do with a competition, simply predict the highest gust in UK (including channel islands) from Ciaran and the location of said gust. I'll start, St Helier - 111mph.
  6. Interesting to note that those runs which take a southerly route into France still give a blast of strong winds for coasts of East Anglia. Flooding and coastal erosion could be issues in that case. This is going to need close watching over the next 36 hours and no doubt it's track and areas of impact will be shifting run to run.
  7. If that's showing at t48 it'll be interesting to see what warning is issued
  8. Had just seen that a few moments ago myself. Gusts exceeding 100mph for southern and southeastern coasts. I'd have thought this is working the brains of forecasters at the met office. Suspect they'll be getting the yellow and orange crayons out if this is still showing come monday.
  9. The increase in water from the volcano won't be helping, nor will the planet warming up. In fact the combination of both things is possibly responsible. Warmer air can hold more water, more warm air + more water = lots of flooding
  10. I agree to an extent, but also feel the Met O have been caught with their pants down twice in a week. First they messed up in under forecasting rain amounts across East Anglia last Friday, then yesterday they underestimated rainfall across the Isle of Wight. In both instances severe flooding occurred. Now, following these events a) they're under a bit of scrutiny and b) relatively smaller scale rainfall events could have greater than usual impacts due to higher river and water table levels.
  11. Totally. Actually based on fact and genuinely informing the readers rather than the rancid clickbait of today, progress huh....
  12. As an area that usually receives the least rainfall in England we've widely had more than 60mm in the last 48 hours.
  13. Agreed but how do you explain the lack of adequate warnings for places like Suffolk today where they have failed so badly to warn of what has happened here?
  14. 100% agree, for me the Met O have made a bit of a hash of this event. I suspect their focus has rightly been on the incredible amount of rain in Scotland and perhaps they've taken their eye off the ball elsewhere. I think they've been wrong in not reacting to the situation this morning as it developed across parts of England. A late warning (or warning upgrade) is always better than nothing.
  15. I do wonder how much the met office have over relied on poorly performing models to issue forecasts and warnings and how much actual forecaster skill has been used. Models are great when reliable but sometimes even in unusual circumstances the skill of forecasting is really necessary. The met office app which I think is UKV driven has been abysmal at forecasting the level of rain here in Suffolk
  16. Getting very bad now here in Suffolk covered somehow by the yellow warning area... Shocking photos show cars submerged as Storm Babet batters Suffolk WWW.EADT.CO.UK Cars in Elms Road car park in Framlingham in east Suffolk are submerged underwater due to severe flooding caused by Storm Babet.
