  1. That's it BJ you photos are exactly what I was trying to describe if you took them at 6 then that's the exact time I was looking at the sunrise. Looked absolutely stunning as your photos do, has that cloud formation got a name? You don't see it to often but mostly I notice it at sunrise and sunset.
  2. Morning all, what a beautiful morning, lovely sunrise, with the sun turning what cloud there is about to a lovely pinky orange, absolutely beautiful. Been a hectic week, with plenty of work things completed which must be good. Have a great weekend everyone for those who are competing in the marathon I hope it goes well. I think it was called a mackerel sky, very small closely packed clouds with the tops being white and the bottoms pink.
  3. The light outside is most strange, the clouds gone an orangey colour, its raining out as well. If I didn't know better you would think a big storm is brewing, most strange. It's gone very still out, no bird noise.
  4. Morning all, hope everyone is well.dark, dull, damp, dreary and still is the only way to sum it up today. Busy ols week coming up, hopefully the bank is now sorted, actually off today to see a client and discuss some problems, properly be my fault, they always are. Has potential to be a great or disastrous week, doing some very complex work on a monitoring and then the control system for a large fridge plant, this is when you have to believe in other people abilities, let's hope the faith I put in them is justified. I agree about where did the weekend go, it fly by. Considering yesterday we had a very easy day doing nothing, as you get older time certainly fly pass. Hope everyone has a great week, and enjoy it.
  5. Morning everyone, a dull dreary day, in dismal depressing dirty Dartford, with drizzle falling and tell tale signs of raindrops on the window, when the curtains and blinds where drawn this morning. Can wholeheartedly agree with AS, the thought of getting away from that terrible invention of the mobile phone to a remote place must be absolutely wonderful, unfortunately for me I got to wait until July, then I told that my phone will be livened up for use aboard, apparently I am meant to happy at this thought. I'm not. The pressure of present day living is unremitting, the emails, text, phone calls, oh how I wish for the good old days when I first started work, you wrote a letter and with luck you got a reply within a week, or if it was urgent you made a phone call, if the person wasn't there you left a message, if they where out of the office, with luck you might get a reply upon their return whenever that was. But today everything is instantaneous if you haven't replied within an hour your have failed in your responsibilities, is anything that important? Bring back the Luddites. Mind you I moan about it, but I will be catching up with my emails today, which mean I will be disturbing ever bodies weekend, so I am just as bad. I think my main worry is how far will this go, 40 years ago we had replies within a week, what will it be like in another 40 years? Mind you I will not be around to find out. With regards to the forth nog Easter weather, it ain't worth worrying about, because whatever will be, will be, queue a song. Now I have depressed everyone, I have one last thing to say, have a great Sunday and if you can enjoy it as much as I will be roast pork Sunday dinner. Have a good one.
  6. Beautiful morning, made you feel great to wake up on a day like today. Got food shopping this morning, footy this afternoon, and nothing tomorrow. So what wil go wrong, well footy is the most likely to spoil the day. Have a great one today, I got that nice warm feeling in my tummy that normally indicate I am going to, or of course it could be that the coffee was to hot :-)
  7. Thanks Jax and BJ, it's very hard to keep your cool when you are having to sign your house, pension fund, savings etc away, because the bank hadn't done their job. Got no idea what the weather was like today, but tonight it's much fresher out there, the smog seemed to have departed and the cloud have a mottled look about it.
  8. Totally agree CR, having lived through smog in the 50's, I remember having to wear a scarf around my face with a hanky over my mouth, some people say that this was a vast improvement on my looks. I can also remember waking up to more than 3mm of cement dust all over everything, but I think that may have been a fairly localised event. I also remember one of the great smogs can't remember the year but must have been mid to late 50's my father used to cycle to work and home for dinner he done that journey for over 15 years 4 times a day, one lunch time he never arrived home, he couldn't find the house, boy that was a pea souper. Those where the days my friend.Looks a lot clearer out there today, more of a breeze, cars absolutely filthy after its journey to Peterborough yesterday, good day a nice million pounds worth of work won, lucky I went my input was a hand shake. Today is going to get very naughty got the bank manager in, think I better behave myself, but feel like telling him to stuff his bank where the sun dosen't shine (assume that my weather reference for this post :-)) he / his bank really has left us in a most difficult position but for the time being that all I can say about it, no doubt once it's resolved then I will say more, but I hate salesman and unfortunately these days that all bank managers are, just very poor salesmen.Have a great POETS day, and more importantly enjoy yourselves.
  9. Morning all, to dark out to give a weather report, but I think it can be summed as as dark, dewy, dry, dusty, dreary, dismal in dirty Dartford. As Lassie said its mild. Very busy at work still hence my lack of posts recently. Off to our Peterborough office today, apparently I am being wheeled out to meet a new client whose want to visit our office to make sure we exist, I'm meant to be the technical person at the meeting, so that's an £800k order lost then :-). Don't know if its because I'm getting old and grumpy ('ere indoors said I haven't changed since the day I meet her) but I like to be fully prepared for a meeting, this one I don't know what the design is, who I am meeting, their companies name to be truthful I know nothing, should be a good one then. Just a warning for us Dartford bridge user, I can now confirm that the speed cameras do work on the bridge :-(, where's AS when you need him. Have a good day everyone. Devastating news the lovely blackbird that I thought had found love, hence being quiet these last few days, was found dead in our neighbours garden, brutally murdered by 2 magpies. Really upset by this news, made my early morning rise a little duller, such a shame as we have very little wildlife around here other than grey squirrels and magpies. Apparently Mr blackbird was buried with full military honours by our neighbour, yesterday.
  10. Morning all, pleased to say its a lovely morning here, milky sky's, which hopefully means a lovely day, slightly misty. The big day has arrived for the card and flower industry, for all you mothers out there, take advantage of all the pampering you are going to get today, you earn it. Forgot to mention I think I heard Mr blackbird today, so perhaps all is well. Have a good one, and I hope everybody is well.
  11. Sorry to hear of your lose Jason, seems such a shame that era of heroic people are quickly passing, the stories they could would surmount anything in my life time. True heros the lot of them. Funny enough I'm actually reading an account of 2 para history through the 2nd world war, mand it includes a few stories written by a member of my family, in fact as I can make it out they are my twin cousins, being twins and fighting in the same platoon was something of a unique occurrence in the British army, and to this day I'm not certain how they achieved the feat, but the book certainly confirm that they did during a little incident at a bridge in Arnhem, some may have heard of it, they where brave, some say the bravest of the brave, their battalion was devastated, but unbelievable they both survived, one was captured the other escaped. Jason, this poem was written by one of the twins for the 50th anniversary of this great battle, I hope it will give you and your some comfort, however I must warn you it is a battle poem, written from the heart 50 years after the event, Elements of nature have no precedence over men at war, fought in field, forest or on the street, down alleyways, byways, house or barn. The venue of battle does not give exception to anything or anyone, fatigue is succeeded with sight of death and fear of it. The cleft between cowardice and heroism is paper thin with self preservation hovering above conscience of men. The tide of battle will ebb and flow in defence and attack. Men will fall, some will die, acts of courage happen all the time, a medic will tend the wounded, the padre will comfort the dying. Officers will lead the men from the front. Sergeants and corporals will go forward with them. Excitement does not have a real place in war and the glory is false. Discomfort of sweat and cold, hunger, thirst, and fatigue goes unnoticed, perhaps that because one is to aware of death bring nearby and prominent factor. Discomfort is temporary, death is forever. Jason, hope you can accept this as being from one hero to another, may your wife's grandfather rest in peace, along with all those other heros.
  12. Morning all, hope everyone well, looks a nice day out, hint of mist, blue / milky white sky. Nice to see the forum slowly reverting back to its irrelevant best, with a great mixture of weather, life's woos, humour and miscellaneous rubbish (my input). Bit concerned today that young love may have flown away, 2nd day Mr blackbird has not been singing, I thought the lucky old man had cracked it with young sexy miss blackbird, but no happy singing bird to awake me, am very concerned and to be frank worried. Is there a bird Marjorie agony aunt I can write to, or is it to early? Missed him yesterday and hoped it was a one off, today devastated, I scanned all the trees with my trusted binoculars and nothing. Obviously number 42 was worried as well as he was waving his fist, obviously indicating that he couldn't see him either. Today is one of those day I dread, really busy, running about everywhere, just to give you a flavour, 8am shopping for food, then over to a garden centre for flower pot shopping, home to move everything above the height our little granddaughter can reach, official visit from middle daughter and grand kids so mother day presents can be handed out, hopefully a couple of hours peace watching Geoff Stelling, then bluewater to pay for our forth coming holiday to Florida, then meal (which I will have to pay for) for mothers day with my son and fiancé. Sorry got to go now, blue flashing lights outside and someone's hammering at the door, have a great day.
  13. I really didn't think that all you faceless people out there in cyber space really read my tripe I write, I am especially surprised that bluebreezer54 remembered the little story I told about the early morning warbling of Mr blackbird and yesterday he received the return calls from a young lady, Surly this must be the romance he is referring to, I will update you all tomorrow, can't wait now to get out my binoculars again, let's hope your interest in these young birds lead to no more unfortunate misunderstanding by the neighbours :-).
  14. Morning All, hope everyone is as well as can be expected. Foggy again this morning, but no frost, heavy dew. Pleased its not raining as I have got to have a new windscreen fitted today, a crack that got worse as a result of one of the very few frosts we had last winter. Funny how I managed to get the new window fitted on a Friday :-) Finished my drawing yesterday, must be the worse one I every produced, hopefully I have managed to convey my thoughts onto paper in an understandable manner. As I have mentioned we have been very successful in gaining work since Christmas, and like a lot of companies its the end of the financial year coming up, this has led us to look at exactly what work is unfinished or even un started, amazingly we have just on contracts got double on the books already for this year than we achieved to the end of this year. Think its going to be a busy year, might need to employ some more people as well. Hope you all have an enjoyable day and whatever you do or got planned for the weekend,mi hope its a great success, have a brilliant POETS day.
  15. Rumble of thunder here in horrible Harlow, had one to two heavy showers as well.
  16. Morning all, hope everyone fit and well, foggy and frosty here in frozen Dartford. I could throw in a few more F's but I properly be banned:-). Think romance could be in the air Mr blackbird is chirping away and I think there could be a response, let's hope so anyway. Drawing and designing day today in horrible 'arlow, so M25 bound, hope the fog clears otherwise might be fun, Have a good day everyone, enjoy your selfs. Edit bit, for you people you get up late, it really was foggy and frosty at 05:30 this morning, honest. Now 06:15 and frost is melting fast and fog disappeared. What the chances of another gold star as I'm almost 100% on topic again that's twice in a few weeks :-)
  17. Just got in from a hard day :-).car registering 3.5c and sleet falling in amongst the heavy rain. Wife ain't happy I got in early as she has to put up with me for longer, thought that was a bit harsh, but thinking about it I can now see her point of view.
  18. Morning all, really quiet a frosty one this morning, with a hint of mist in the air. Obviously clear sky's, my old mate the blackbird (well he's big and black and sits up high in tree) is really giving it some wellie this morning, shame no one is returning his warbling. Off to horrible Harlow today for more drawing and designing, trying to work out a decent plant room food layout, worked out yesterday that's there over a 100 tons of kit to go on it, will give someone a headache calculating the steels for that. Going to look an impressive building when finished and will employ around 1500 people full time, in an area where work is badly needed. Have a good time everyone, Daniel all isn't lost yet for you, we where bottom a few games ago, a couple of 1 nil wins have helped us out, we can't score in fact we are the lowest scorers in the whole of the football league, but we have tightened the defence and hey presto up the league we go, it can be done. Have a good day everyone.
  19. Oh what a lovely night, enjoyed the football results :-)))))))))))) Forgot its dry outside, but think I might be wet inside shortly.
  20. Thanks blue blazer for that link, found it most interesting, pleased he made reference to the unusual burial practice, shame he didn't mention the poem where dirty Dartford gets its nickname from. Certainly got the description of the residence of swanscombe correct. Nice to know that the record breaking weather station is actually in Dartford and not Gravesend. Dartford and surrounding area where a great industrial town, even now I can remember the furnaces colouring the sky with an artificial red tint, one of them glows meant that my father was coming home for tea. Refrigeration was one one the main employees, along with medicine, paper making, cement and vickers who made ammunition at the bottom of my garden. Could go on for ages about the history and engineering, but I must not. Can't tell you what weather was like today as been stuck inside drawing, had a great old time, and the brain cells where really tested today.
  21. Morning all, a dank, dreary day in depressing dirty Dartford, bird is only chirping half heatedly today. Must of been tired last night fell to sleep on the settee about 8:45 last night and just woke up, think the strain is starting to takes its toll, been a bit touchy with suppliers recently, as it's coming up for price rises time and I don't want to pay any increases, well who does. Today got the accountants in, we have just changed ours as we have outgrown the old ones, and it's the first time we have done the end of the year and today is my favourite "works in progress" I absolute hate doing these figures, but I think the new accountant has got me worked out, A) they are doing it very early whilst everything is fresh and B) they are sending 2 lovely ladies over :-). Not fair I will have to watch my laungage. Hopefully we will have our accounts for the year sorted by end of May, normally its December. Don't think I will get much designing done today. Few spots of rain has just started to fall, think dark grey clouds seem to be stagnant over Dartford. Have a good one everyone.
  22. Morning all, a cold and frosty morning today, cars and roofs all white, a nice crescent moon and a single solitary bird warbling away, clear sky's. Designing awaits, so have a good one.
  23. JimmyH, unbelievable your memories and mine must coincide, I have had a knickerbokaglory every year in Morrelli's for the last 55 years, its a family tradition, my uncle referred to above designed and fitted out Morrelli's all those years ago, it hasn't altered all in all those years, Morrelli's really does bring the old memories back, I played on the beach with the people who now run it, such a small world. My aunt and uncle lived in spero court just beside Morrelli's prior to their death, in fact the roof of spero court went up, and Morrelli's opened up early in the morning to put the people up. I always said I would retire down there, unfortunately I don't think it will happen, but it kept me going back all those years. What a small world, certainly agree about the size of the knickerbokaglory as when I had my first one I couldn't see over it, now I have trouble seeing it. Think its going to be a very cold night tonight, with a thick frost, let's hope the garden survive, just after I finished writing this, so a heavy shower passes through.
  24. JimmyH, I think Broadstairs is my favourite place in the world, I have been lucky and been to most places throughout Europe and a lot of places in the West Indies, and whenever I go to Broadstairs for some reason it just feel like coming home, my favourite view is sitting on the pier just people watching, enjoying the kids playing on the beach as I did all those dim and distant years ago, who can forget those long hot summers, us little uns being packed off down to our aunts for the six weeks summer holidays, or the first holiday I had on our own with my elder brother and his mates, the long walk back from Hades nightclub in Margate getting in, in time to get up, dancing with Sandy Shaw, the dates young nurses from the national sea hospital in Margate. Those are just some of the happy memories that come flooding back whenever I go down their. No wonder her indoors won't speak to me, I suppose I shouldn't have told her :-) If you go down there, there a famous photo where the red arrows are flying over the beach, and you cannot see a grain of sand as it's packed, I am there. It was a glorious day, and the last day I saw my uncle alive. So many memories and so many ghosts, of great days, I suppose it must have rained but I can never remember it.
