  1. Suns out and the hail comes down, strange old day weather wise today. Went to bleak house in Broadstairs today for a cream tea, very nice, but as we came out, it rained hard, on the drive back to dirty Dartford, we came through, sun, rain, hail, sleet and what looked like snow, temperature went from a high of 9.5c to a low off 4.5c, as I said funny old day for weather today. meant to had a day spoiling her in doors, work got in the way of that, whoever invented emails, text etc., got me a right telling off, thought I was safe to answer some as she who must be disobeyed was in the ladies, wrong, I got caught and suffered the deafening silence all day. In last few minute, sun, rain, hail and mixed in there was a rainbow, wind got up as well, oh and the silence was broken by her indoors to inform me it was snowing, it was hail, guess who wasn't brave enough to tell her :-)
  2. Morning all, a great day yesterday up at Milton Keynes with fellow designers (buildings, structures etc) discussing this project I'm working on, suddenly the vail lifted and I could understand the extremely complex building, got the basis of the design agreed upon, just now got to finalise it, that will take me properly a month of hard work. I don't know if you are interested or not, but I been struggling with this project with air movement which in this case is totally different to any project which has every been installed, but the cooling duty is equivalent of 2,000 one kw heaters being placed in a warehouse, turned on and my plant keeping that warehouse at one degree centigrade, with in theory very little air movement, oh and its 32 degree centigrade outside as well. Easy it's not. Today I will foos go shopping, come back, start to layout the downstairs plant room, shout and curse a lot when it won't all fit in, go to football shout and curse a lot when we lose, come home and shout and curse a lot more when I still can't get the downstairs plant room to work, this drawing has to be complete by Tuesday night, oh along with the upstairs plant room, should be fun. Looking forward to tomorrow, giving my self the day off from work, we are going to Broadstairs, fish and chips in our hands sitting on the jetty overlooking the beach, then off to bleak house for a tour and champagne cream tea, which the grand kids bought for nanny's 60th birthday present back in February, so let's hope JP gets the weather right for tomorrow, or her indoors will be moaning at JP and not me for a change :-) sorry John but when she asked about the weather for Sunday I referred to your excellent posts. Have a great day, whatever you are doing, think of the poor old wife as another piece of screwed up paper whistles past her ear hole followed by mumblings of my displeasure. At moment dry out, lovely clear sky, looks cold, could be a frost, hard to determine at the moment, hope you all have a great day, whatever you got planned.
  3. Nice to see you around this morning CharltonKerry, guessed you were probably busy designing! Good result for your lot the other night, need to win the rest of those games in hand now. Hope you enjoy your day
  4. Alix, my thoughts are with you and your father. AS has it right a father is the comedian of the family, it's him that is first to say it will be alright, it's him whose duty it is to make you laugh when you fall and scarp your knee. But at the moment he can't do that, so he properly would just like a cuddle and a nice hug at the moment, I know I would. Keep strong. Cloudy day today, with a heavy dew. Been busy designing this week, had 2 absolutely fabulous days, desk is full of calculations, quotations, drawing, sketches and screwed up bits of paper, been a right old mad professor. Thoughts only on problem solving, and boy are there some problems to be solved. Designed a new evaporator (the bit of kit the cold air comes out off), quiet proud of that. Redesigned everything else, calculated all the volumes and pipe lengths, today's job, is to crack the defrost system. Bet you are impressed as the wife when I explained the ne evaporator to her, thought she could have kept awake. Oh well better get on.
  5. Pleased to report a good day today, before we left to see the grand kids we took the decision to do some washing, not your normal stuff, but my cold work gear, all the multi layer thin and thick coats etc., people think I'm made going out on a hot summer day lugging all this gear out to the car, but its give me the opportunity to work at -25c for many hours, think longest was in excess of 6 hours, which was stupid, but when your brain get cold you just don't think straight. Anyway it was the earliest this half yearly event took place and not only that the majority of it came in dry, something that dosen't happen normally, so for a first time ages I can report that her indoors is happy. Really amazing what makes a woman happy :-) Clear out at moment, have a great one what's left of it.
  6. Morning all, I hope everyone is fit and well, another wonderful sunny morning, not a cloud in the sky, slight breeze and a heavy dew. Lovely meal yesterday evening, fine company and a fine bottle of wine, nice that someone else drove, oh and the port was good as well. Off to see the grand kids today down in sittingbourne which will be nice. That's its today, so I hope you all have a great day. Actually there is just a little to add, what a glorious night it was last night, nearly a full moon and a beautiful clear sky, with hundreds of stars twinkling brightly despite the light pollution, if you could have got somewhere dark, then it would have been a truly magical end to a lovely evening.
  7. Sorry about your sad news Legrandfromage, that's one of the reasons me and the wife have decided not to have pets once the kids moved out (hope that sounds ok, but I'm sure you know what I meant) plus we both work and enjoy our couple of weeks away, so really isn't fair on them, and having to have them put to sleep would I know devastate me, I would love a dog, but I think that's something for later. Looks cloudy out, but dry, no fog, slight breeze. On of the reasons I worked from home yesterday, other than to catch up on my sleep :-) was my Audi had to have its second service, all excited as it was "free" a perk when I bought the car, great told them, got phone from call, from garage, went along the lines of, sir, your free service isn't free it will cost you a lot of money, me why?, because you didn't use your second free service within 25000, me, 2nd service isn't due to 37000 miles, them, no we know, that, the charge is £. Another reason chalked up to why I hate sales people. Shame its a great car, (A7) and was thinking of getting another soon, think I might start looking for another manufacturer now, but I know deep down that I will stay with Audi. Off shopping, in a minute, then properly watch Geoff Stelling and dome football, followed by a nice meal tonight, decided to treat the old dear, so booked in at the coach and horses in Ruxley garden centre, looking forward to that, normally excellent food, at very unreasonable price. Anyway hope you are well, and have a great day whatever you got planned.
  8. Found out why I don't work from home that often, working away happily upstairs, found I missing some specialised technical information, went downstairs made a coffee, rung someone up who I knew would have the info, he was in a meeting, sat down, bloke woke me up 31/2 hours later, and the coffee was cold. Put the sleep down to the pressure I been under this last week so must have needed it, that my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Thanks for my gold star MK, haven't had one of them for over 50 years :-) weather looked beautiful out there today, but breeze has got up, which might help out with the fog not forming later. Blimey a weather forecast as well, will wonders ever cease?
  9. Morning all, misty in Dartford with a slight frost on the shed roof, nice that its lighter in the morning now, really noticed it this morning. POETS day today, so unfortunately I got to work from home as the car going in for its service. Been a busy old week, with continuous meetings, so payback day as I got a whole week worth of quoting / designing / drawings to catch up on, but at least I got the weekend to do this work in as well, no football for me tomorrow as we got Millwall away, and to be honest I fancy living to Sunday. Thinking about suggesting to she who must be disobeyed that perhaps we deserve a nice meal on Saturday, might suggest go to that place at Ruxley again, she loved her fish and the T bone weren't too bad, licks his lips and dribbles remembering the mushroom and fillet steak starter. Think I better get on, just to say the vis ability has deteriorated here, so obviously the fog is very patchy out, so be careful out there. Hope you are all fit and well, and enjoy yourselves today, have a good un. Just to show how patchy it is out there within twenty minutes of saying its deteriorated out there, it's now a beautiful sunny morning, must be a record for me, for being so much on topic, wonder if I will get a gold star :-).
  10. Morning all, hope everyone's fit and well. Thick mist out there this morning as predicted, should make the make the trip round the M25 to the office interesting. Guess what got meetings all day today, including why we are not getting more maintenance customers and that really exciting one, my highlight of the year, the one that's I am so looking forward to, yeah, insurances, ruddy great, not only a waste of my time but our money as well. The old codger has had to admit to feeling old recently and we have just taken the first steps for planing for my retirement, not a subject that I fill I want to discuss yet, but being a owner of the company, then I got to make / take certain actions and these got to be planned, my share in the company is my pension, so the obvious question for me is how do I get my money out, hence the planning. Also I don't want the company to fail after I leave, so I got to find another Charltonkerry to take my place, think before I give up totally at the moment I want another 8 or 9 years so I will be around 70. Blurbreezer54 and Jan Bromley have both recently mentioned that for various reasons they are stuck indoors for long periods, and this has made me think, what am I'm going to do, when that fatal day comes, and I have to retire, I got no interests other than work or football, I won't want to sit there and vegetate, I will need to keep my brain active. Won't be able to do anything to active, due to my knees, hips, shoulders etc.. Think this might be a big problem for me, will have to put my thinking hat on. I will need to get out the house, as her indoors won't want me under her feet. Oh dear feel this will put a strain on our relationship. If I do manage to carry on to say 70, I would have been working continuously for 54 years, be a shock that first day when I will be unwanted and thrown on the scrap heap of life. Hopefully I will have the health and money to be able to afford a few holidays, but I think I need to find myself a hobby, I know I might take learning about the weather, only problem that won't get me out from under her indoors feet. Have a great day everyone, and be careful if your travelling. Funny writing the above has made me feel terrible old today, put a right downer on my day, even made me talk to her that must be disobeyed about the future, after that if you here of a queue on the Dartford bridge today, then don't worry it will just be the police trying to talk me down. To be serious though that little chat with her has made me think seriously about the future, her idea is that we can take off on breaks whenever we want to, and not plan them, that's a totally alien idea to me, but thinking about it, it's certainly got an appeal, my suggestion was perhaps a short notice 110 day world cruise, hers a couple of days in Jersey, can see some more arguments coming in a few years time :-) For those whose going down the weather related songs, I'm going to include one that's football and weather related, its of course the great Charlton anthem, the song made famous by some Liverpudlian ex Beatle mull of kintyre, Charlton (well Notts forest actually but no ones heard their version) adapted this song so its includes those thought provoking words "mist rolling in from the Thames, my hearts desire" and they say football fans are ignorant.
  11. Morning all, just a quickie this morning as I'm up to my neck in it. Looks like a beautiful clear morning, with a frost. Managed to alter / cancel my appointments this week so I can be in the office more and hopefully get on with some work. Hate it when its comes to the end of the financial year, everything gets put on hold, unfortunately this year it can't, so have to blend everything together and then nothing gets done to my satisfaction. Managed to get some more work done last night before falling asleep on the settee, shame really as its hard to sleep at night, hopefully got a full day of designing / trouble shooting of what will if I can make it work will be a nice future project, bit worried about it as I can't really sort the duty out, therefore can't get a feel for the price, got another project to put a budget together for, really interesting one and would like it to go ahead, think it might, but be a year or two away. Yesterday in my post about owning your own company I forgot to mention the extreme pressure you put yourselves under, yes you do get the rewards, the nice car, the great salary, but you don't get the time to enjoy these, you also miss out on so much, the kids growing up or at my age the grand children growing up, which does hurt, money and responsibility is great but so are the other things in life, the time to take the beautiful photos that appear on here, the time to go out in the garden and do the gardening, and the most precious of all the time to love the people whom you do love and can't always show it, because your away working, that's the downside, therefore if your like Surrey whose young and vibrant and want to get on, you must get that life to work ratio right, I haven't. I hope others can. Told you it would be a short one. Hope everyone's well and enjoy yourselves today.
  12. Bluebreezer54, I know your post wasn't aimed particularly about my post but, I'm very sorry if my post was a bit insensitive it wasn't meant to be, I was aware of your predictiment and I realise the frustration that you and people in a similar position to you must suffer every day. I don't really know what to say, other than I wish you luck and better health in the future, I'm certain you are not looking for my sympathy, but I offer it anyway. Re Chris Powell, until I read your post I hadn't heard the news, (told you I been busy) it a very difficult situation as he's my hero, he's a gentleman, and a gentle, caring human being, he's an exact opposite of any footballer I ever had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting, he has done so much for fans that has never been published, the time he, his wife and kids have spent so much time helping terminal ill kids etc.. But the pressure has been building over the year, this season I think he's only won 6 games, he's to nice a man to be put under that much pressure, but as I say I haven't had time to read anything about it, and as yet don't know the reason for his sacking, I assume the final nail in his coffin was Sunday, and all I can say if we played extremely badly. Ps I still don't what's the weather been like today.
  13. Like it Surrey, think I come and work for you. Working for yourselves can be extremely rewarding but I thought I would just give you an idea what I done today. For your info sometimes running your own company ain't fun, it's take all your time, energy and brain power, as chilly milly mentioned I didn't do my normal morning ramble (bet that pleased a lot of people :-)), why, I was up at 5:30, working at 5:40 just got in constant meetings, about purchasing, project costings, end of the year accounts, personnel finances, future tax planning, including how to pay more (I know its the wrong way round, but occassionally you need to think outside the box, for future gain), write various contractual letters including talking to our company solicitors at a cost of only £285 per hour. Then I got to start my real job of designing, oh yes, also answer phone and make tea / coffee when my staff are to busy. But today was a bad un, and as I say, when its good its good, another little hint, is at the end of every month you need enough money in the bank once you paid the suppliers, VAT and tax man to pay your staff (that's pressure). Oh yea I will still be working at 9 tonight and will do in excess of 100 hours this week, but I love it, I hope you have the opportunity, if you do, grab it with both hands, but most importantly do something you love, then it will be worthwhile. I can't tell you what the weather was like today, I haven't got a clue, I didn't get out not even for a sandwich and the drive home past in a flash, as I was on hands free, trying to catch up on the missed calls. Brilliant news chilly milly re your husband, hope he tells his present employer to poke his job where the sun don't shine, its companies like that, that make it bad for the rest of us, our accounts ladies husband has just had a major operation and even our suppliers and customers are bending over backwards to help her, my staff have been truly magnificent doing everything possible too take the pressure of her. He's now making a good recovery so I like to think that the flexibility that we have given her has helped.
  14. Morning all, hope everyone feeling bright and breezy, another lovely morning today, no wind, clear sky's and a slight hint of some mellow misty ness . Off to horrible Harlow today, to the office for a meeting, got a brace of consultants coming in today to discuss a future project, truly a case of the mountain coming to Mohamed, wonder what I done wrong for this unique feat to occur. To be fair I actually know what gone wrong, clients sometime can be a bit naughty and send you an enquiry, use your budget price to present to the board and then do some alterations and then expect you to undertake the work for the same. Today is a classic case of this, so it will arm twisting and cost cutting. That's one of the disadvantages of undertaking bespoke designs. Oh well, it will be fun a few hours, and the air is sure to turn blue, as all the weeks of work and the endless calculations are thrown out of the window. Got one of those terrible weeks this week, where I'm traveling the country via the great British motorway network, let's hope they stay clear for me. Have a great day everyone.
  15. Afternoon, what a stunning day it's been today, shame about losing today but somebody has to win and today it wasn't our turn, anyway always hard to tell but I think the best team won. Only problem with this beautiful weather is that in the evening the sun seems even brighter. Have a great night everyone, oh sorry to hear of even more unrest on this fabulous site, sorry about the length of my recent posts, the first is undoubtedly down to AS for mentioning grass smell and cricket and the second was down to being bored this morning prior to our trip to Sheffield.
  16. Thanks for the good wishes people, AS I would have taken it easy on you after all I wouldn't have wanted to be sued :-). Good luck all with the rugby, another of my passions, as over 50 years ago I was playing hooker, it used to great on those cold frosty days to get the first scrum in, really got warm, but I think rugby has altered so much in those intervening years, the professionalism of the game has taken it to another level. Its funny whilst I love rugby and cricket I find both very difficult to watch either live or on tele, I know I shouldn't, but I get to excited and this has spoilt both games as a spectator sport for me, shame but at least I got my football. Just after Christmas the little old lady down the road sadly past away, I mentioned it on here, it was the same day that little Evi my latest grand daughter came into this world, at the wake I meet up with a couple of old school friends, one has give me an old school photo from around 1962, she had kindly enclosed a letter listing the names of all those dim and distant faces from those long forgotten days, there where my two best mates Pete and Graham, whatever happened to them, from the day I left that school, I never saw or heard from either of them, yet we where inseparable, the scraps we got into, the cowboy and injun battles held in Daves dad loft where he stored sweets for his shop, the snow ball fights later that year in that famous winter of 62/3. Those memories came flooding back, but their she was my first girlfriend, the girl who kissed me in the air raid shelter and shared my flying saucers, penny black jacks etc, I must admit I thought I recognise her, but over the years time had alter the colour of her hair, but her smiled gave it away, when she was pointed out to me. That lovely smile, and delicate lips that had dared to kiss mine. Whatever happened to her, did she go off and make a success of her life, have a family and a loving husband, I really hope so, is she reading this and thinking, what plonker writing this old sentimental rubbish, unfortunately nobody knows. I told the wife about those long lost days at our nice meal last night, the long lost summers and winters, some of the scraps we used to get into, including bombing the little train that run around the old chalk pit, that now is Bluewater, but for some reason, the incident in the air raid shelter got omitted from the yarns I spun. Bach then I still had a passion for football and cricket, with my first visit to the valley being some 4 years prior to the photo being taken. Oh well it time I got up, destiny awaits, who know what will happen today, will it be Wembley, or will it be the triple crown, who knows that's the beauty of sport. Have a great day, think of me around 12 today and wish us Addicks luck, as we will need it, let's hope in whatever sport you are watching then the best teams wins, if it ain't us, then it's been a good adventure, I have spent precious time with my boy, doing things we both enjoy, and hopefully making for some of the time I wasn't their during his young days, work can be a pain. Hey ho, win or more than likely lose, we got another game on Wednesday night, when no doubt I won't be able to sleep as the events of that game will be replaying in my head. Weather its dry and very dark out. Funny I just came down to the living room, and their was that photo, and I looked around the room and what a difference 50 years make, the flash colour tele in the corner instead of a radio, the piles of shopping from bluewater a chalk pit those dim a distant days ago, my mum could never have afforded or indeed wanted the wife's Chanel make up, the candles just purchased from Yankee Candles back those all years ago you bought a candle for the simple reason the lights would go out, not now we had to sniff them and agree which one was the nicest smelling, do you know what 50 years ago it was a much simpler and healthier way of living, i enjoyed those long days more than now, but if I could go back would, I don't think so, no wife's, no kids, no grand kids, whilst I have been known to moan about the wife etc, I think I would miss them all to much. Alixandra, I learnt many years ago, that nothing in this world is insignificant and it doesn't matter what your passion is for, the important thing is that you have a passion, my true love other than the wife I add hastily is my work, I been lucky I fell into a job, still wonder how, and I love it, the ability to be able to design from scratch a bespoke piece of plant is I believe a gift which somehow or other has been bestowed on me, the pleasure I get one starting up one of these major plants is an unbelievable high, but it's the pain and countless hours of frustration getting to that point that makes the high so great. Enjoy your planning, of your poly tunnels as it's the planning that ultimately makes your long journey a success, there no chances as in sport where a bounce of ball could alter everything, it's just hard word, design and planning, then in your case, the weather. Enjoy it, as eventually the fruits of your passion will be there for all to see.
  17. AS, my true weakness the smell of newly mown grass and the sound of leather on willow, how I long for those long gone days, of gentle breezes and mellow whispers of the bar man pulling that first pint of golden nectar. Boy do I miss it, how I long for one last innings, the memories of those dashing square cuts and blazing straight drives, or how about from the bowlers point of view, the thud of leather on the unprotected skin or the satisfying thud of leather on those sweaty smelly pink boxes, the tear of joy from the slips when the batsman, shakes his leg and little pieces of plastic sprinkle onto the ground, the brief discussion with the umpire on wether its cricket for the batsman to be run out because he rolled out his crease, or the call for the batsman wife to bring out the trezzers to remove the splinters from his... Well think you can finish that part of a true story and painful story, the only good thing, I was that bowler, the batsman ended up in hospital with a lot of stitches, but we assumed he was trying to brag. What a great shame, that your body gives out before your brain, I'm still convinced I could get that elusive ton, or the that 6 wicket haul, how many times did I takes 5 wickets never once 6, it ain't fair, nor was getting out in the 90's and the 6 times I was out on 49, he goes of into the sunset mumbling about lose youth and they don't build girls like they used to. Is it right and sensible that a old codger like me, should be laying awake all excited about a football match being played tomorrow, for gawd sake I got to be up at half five, and I'm too excited to sleep, have a nice night, what's left of it, and have a great day tomorrow. Time for sleep, as I think I have lost it. Weather was beautiful today.
  18. Couldn't sleep BJ :-). Shame Snowlady has departed. Morning all, hope everyone is fine, this dull slightly breezy morning. Today is our weekly shop, and we now got a 12 miles round trip to get our waitrose fix. Since they shut the Dartford branch we haven't done any shopping in Dartford town centre, such a shame as I can remember it being a lively, vibrant centre the heat of the community, now its a boarded up waste land, awaiting the arrival of the worse supermarket chain to deface both industry and the local area, yes Tescos are coming, such a shame they brought up the majority of an area of Dartford where the local traders undertook their daily trade over 10 years ago, the whole area was boarded up and basically died. What with bluewater, then I suppose the nickname should be dirty dead Dartford. Talking off bluewater, guess where I'm going tonight, yep, but trying a new restaurant chain which I heard is reasonable, Browns, menu looked ok, and they meant to have pianist twinkiing away in the corner, I can pretend that I on a cruise, not in the middle of a shopping centre :-). Main reason I want to go is to replenish my book supply, somehow I'm down to my last one, mind you think its going to be a slow read as its about Arnhem and its very technical, brought it because my twin cousins feature in it quiet a bit, so looking forward to reading their exploits, in such a famous battle. Oh just a quick update from my unpleasant post a few weeks ago about the wife's bowel cancer test, pleased to say everything is normal, which is a relief, still I suggested she continues to practice her slip fielding until the next test in 2years :-). Have a great day everyone, I won't be doing any shouting or singing today, as I got to save my voice for tomorrow, unfortunately (or fortunately) due to the early kick off I won't be about tomorrow, but no doubt you will be able to tell my mood by the result.
  19. Cheers BJ, really looking forward to Sunday, already got my tickets (lucky as we sold out on Monday) so there be 5,500 Addicks descending upon poor old Sheffield, police are being their normally welcoming selfs, they have started to build the barricades already, all police leave have been cancelled, just for us, obviously they are expecting it to turn nasty, which it could do, after all the thermos flask and tartan blankets can be used a weapons, honestly its Charlton going their, the most aggro I seen is if someone don't shake hands after the game. Problem is all football fans are tarred with the same brush, shame. Think we will lose, but if we win, then Wembley here we come, a long with an extra £2million prize and TV money, we can do with it. Clouded over now, after a nice start, design is ongoing, as are my drawings, grand daughter is keeping the wife out of mischief, and she has now learnt how to blow raspberries, bet naughty grandad will get a telling off for that :-) think I might call that 1 nil to the grand parents.
  20. Morning all, think its dry and partially cloudy out there today. More fun this great POETS day, some serious designing to do, there's a serious problem with the building on this project, which is giving me a right head ache, whilst I have come up with a conceptual design, I can't seem to be able to connect all the pieces, really is frustrating but hopefully in a few weeks will get there. Might help if the drawing we are working to where correct :-). Only trouble is that when I'm in designer mode then I turn my hearing off and I become very blinkered, always upset her indoors, as I don't her what she says, classic example was a few years ago, when I was told to bring the washing in if it rained. Anyway I got locked away in the office, working away, when this drowned rat burges in swearing and cursing me. It wasn't my fault we had a thunderstorm and the washing was left out in it, also didn't help myself because apparently she been calling for me ages to go and help her. Could be interesting because my daughter has a dental appointment and nanny has agreed to look after our 2 year grand daughter, let's hope she not to inquisitive and find grandad office. Mind you grandad might have to come down for a play, great working from home sometimes. Hope everyone fit and as well as can be expected, have a great day.
  21. Congratulation bluebreezer54, the first steps are often the worse, hope your journeys become longer and more frequent, you certainly picked a great day and time of year for your journey. Been a lovely day today, nice trip up to Peterborough and return, sun most the way, although there where a few spots of rain, meeting was promising and the work load looks like getting greater, look like we are going to be more successful, it's getting a bit beyond a joke, I suppose we got make hay whilst the sun shines, but the pressure on individuals and cash flow is starting to tell, think we might need to bring in some contract people to assist. Have a good night everyone.
  22. Morning all, hope everyone's fit and well. Brilliant day yesterday, as good as I hoped for, don't know what the weather was like as I was stuck indoors in my office. You can do so much work when you work from home, my provisional design I came up with is one of my best, energy saving, environmentally friendly, and very expensive, so over the next few weeks will be trying to cut costs. Always amuses me how my clients come to us and say we must have a new refrigeration plant, the most important thing is that it must be environmentally friendly, you do the estimate and design, they say we haven't got that sort of money, so environmentally friendly goes out the window. To give you clue to what I am rabbiting on about yesterday design would say them 30% in running cost! but cost them 20% more to purchase (£1 million additional). It's their decision I happy to put in whatever my "green" client wants, in this case to be fair he will choose the green route and go for an option saving around 25% energy! that extra 5% is achievable but at vast costs. Off to our Peterborough office today to waffle on about future sales and existing contracts, looks a great morning with blue sky's, and those noises birds, chirping away again. Have a great day and enjoy yourselves.
  23. Morning all, hope everyone's well. Got woken up by birdsong this morning, which was pleasent but quiet unusual as we seemed to have lost most of the small birds since David Lloyds opened opposite us and the fast track bus service was put on. Let's hope the birds have decided to come back this spring. Cold and frosty this morning. Got a good day today, one of my favourites, I'm working from home designing, love that, get the old brain cell working, make the house untidy with drawing scattered all over the house, wife gets upset because she can't stand anywhere, end up totally tired out, then tonight won't be able to sleep, as brain is to active. Already started designing when I was laying in bed, just thought of a serious problem, just got think of a solution. Properly will do some drawing work as well. My perfect day, so I wonder what's going to happen to spoil it :-). Hope you all have a good a day as I got planned, enjoy yourselves, as I certainly am.
  24. BJ, didn't realise you where a Dartfordian, born up the other hill so not proper Dartford, had to be born in livingstone hospital for that. Very happy birthday to you, hope you have a goodun. Thanks AS for your legal advice, that's exactly what I thought I would have to read through, but no plain English, however I think I might send it off to our company solicitors (can't remember their name, so we call them £285/hour, can't think why that is :-) worth every penny) as the contract states a lower fee 10% than we where told! the young couple got excited and as I can't find their get out clause, so tempted to tell them to quickly sign and send it back, but no doubt there something hidden to dampen the excitement.
  25. Morning all, looked out window and it's still dark :-) think we got a frost and it looked dry. The horrendous week of work has got worse, didn't manage to complete what I had to do yesterday, before I went to see a client who lumbered me with a load more, including a nice £100k order which is the size I like. I know I shouldn't moan, but my work load is just absolutely rediculous and what with trying to run the company as well, don't want to take more non earning staff on as the overheads are getting stupid now, might have to seriously think about closing our order books apart from our regular customers, that thought will upset a few people. Think my day will be a mixture of panic and relief, panic over how I do it, relief if and when I work out how to do it, lucky it got a good secretary whose take some load of me. Just had the pleasure of reading all the contractual documentation for the great wedding party in 2 years time, makes a change all written in easily readable and sensible common English, makes a pleasant change, also no nasty stuff in there other than what you would expect. Sorry therefore no work for our legal eagle team. Have a great day, and enjoy it.
