  1. Surrey I had similar to you, but with the added complication of upset stomach etc, won't go into details, but lost a stone in 5 days, after 4 weeks still not right by any means. Do what I didn't, go to the doctors. Remember your dad is only trying to look after your best interests.
  2. Morning all, seems dark out, certainly damp, so I think we had some rain last night. Got a nasty day today, the sort where you wish you didn't own the company, that's all I can say, but be glad when its over. Have a better day than I am.
  3. Been tied up with the grand kids today, , You wouldn't think that 2 little innocent faces could cause so much shear chaos, mess and noise. Jax, Must admit izzy proofing the house takes around 2 hours, putting the house back together after their visit takes around 4 hours, got into trouble for encouraging her to broke an ornament which I hate, but her indoors like. Nice to see Jan posting again. Beautiful morning but deteriorated as it went on, now dark and overcast.
  4. Why did I mention football and the weather this morning. I should have known the game would have been called. Depressed and despondent from dirty Dartford. I written this out about 20 times and this is the politest version.
  5. Morning all, hope everyone's is well, I'm not, can't shake of this bug, had it four weeks now, wife moaning at me to go to doctors, what's the point, you can't have antibiotics. That's my moan over, well unless the mighty Charlton lose today. Hopefully we will play, all this rain hasn't helped as a drain has collapsed under the pitch, mind you the water polo been fun. Off to the supermarket soon to get the food, that will be fun, football then bloody bluewater, why, I been good, well fairly, can't remember upsetting her indoors to much this week, I don't deserve a trip to the shops, oops more moaning. Last night we had phone call from daughter who just gave birth, she's coming up tomorrow, as her husband wants some sleep! Just got to childproof the house, and move all the stuff 4 foot off the ground :-). Its great when the grand kids come round you can spoil them, and then send them home. Weather report as usual, its dark out so can't really tell, but a few raindrops on the window, but it not very wet out, if you want a more technical description then I suggest you refer to coasts or JP, Infact anyone else then me. Both do an invaluable job on this forum, for which as thank them and everyone else that contributes, it make people like me, who travel a lot for meetings and whose engineers drive all over the country life so much easier. So thanks and keep up the good work. It seems that JP is a little unsure what's happening next week, so I going to give him the knowledge of my understanding of the weather pattern that's appearing, give up and watch country file tomorrow, if they go past Thursday, then they are pretty certain, if they don't expect something cold. Only joking JP please don't follow anything I say, no one else does. Have a great day, enjoy yourselves.
  6. 80's weather, not certain exactly where it was, it was nearer Huntingdon on the A14 and after the first little chef (early starter breakfast, very nice) on the left hand side from memory just before you can see the old bridge on the right, certainly if it froze then that would be a better ice rink than the ones I have designed.
  7. Morning all, bad night sleep for some reason, don't think we got a frost, but its dark out so a bit hard to see. Well its POETS day today so let's hope its a good one. Been a bit busy with work so apologise for no musing this week, but unfortunately sometimes work has to come first, had training all day yesterday at our Peterborough office on Microsoft project 2013, funny how you can think software is very good then an expert comes along and suddenly you realise that you are only using 1% of the programme's capacity :-). Mind you it was nice that the Luddite what I is managed to catch the trainer out, always enjoy that. The flooding around Huntingdon was spectacular (if that the right thing to say), hopefully they where flood plains, but my, there was some water in the fields etc. Well everyone have a nice day, and let's hope for a dry weekend and cooler more seasonal weather.
  8. Happy birthday John, thanks for all the help, reports etc, much appreciated. Sorry been a bit tied up with work, properly suffering with the same as coast, people wanting to place orders and no one to do them! Hope everyone is well and keeping dry.
  9. Morning all, certainly appears still to be windy out, but surprisingly its dry out, so hopefully not to rain last night, the river a Darenth going through Dartford town centre yesterday morning was the highest I seen it since the flood defences where installed, from a quick glance as I was driving it would appear that it was half way up the seats, but it's designed to flood like that so sounds worse, don't know how much more it can take before its becomes a problem. Off to work in Harlow today, so again got to hope the wind is kind to me. Jason that wind chill chart was fascinating, haven't seen that before, in my younger more stupid days, I went inside a blast freezer at -45c with a wind chill approaching -80c, they said you could survive for 5 minutes, I didn't last 30 seconds, it was horrendous, but something I was pleased to have done, oh, I was properly suited and booted, with full cold weather gear. It's not unusual for me to go into freezers dressed in a shirt and tie, its quiet interesting that your brain can't accept a sudden temperature drop and for a few minutes you can't feel the cold. We also know when a store is at minus 20c as the hairs in your nose freeze up, this is an acceptable way of telling the temperature, well for me anyway. Congratulation to JP on reaching 8,000 post, unlike mine all weather related.
  10. Heavy shower in dirty Dartford at the moment. Out of interest Dirty Dartford isn't known as that because of the pollution caused by the crossing, it's from an ancient poem: Dirty Dartford Dirty people Bury their dead Above the steeple There are various versions of this, but basically because the town centre and church is in a valley, then going back the only place to Bury people was at the top of east hill, hence the poem, I believe this is unique in this country, but no doubt be proven wrong:-)
  11. Morning All, hope everyone fit and well, and for those that got their first day back at work / school hope it goes well, surprised when I looked out the window to see it dry out, still breezy but it feels mild. I off to the office today in Harlow so I would like light winds so the bridge remains open. Talking about the bridge and the tunnel I was surprised to read that the government has stated that us locals only need to pay a fee off £20 per year from March, this replaces the cheap toll of 20p per crossing we have to pay at present as a present for the chaos and pollution its causes, also by October this year the toll booths will be removed and replaced by a London congestion charge type of system, this is meant to improve the traffic flow as traffic won't need to stop. Obviously this for locals I this is a good thing, although how they can justify any charge is beyond me, as if you believe the politicians when the bridge was built once the cost of that was recoup then it would be free, from memory that was over 3 years ago. That's my rant out the way, sorry. Because of illness and holidays etc I won't have been to the office for three weeks, I bet they missed me :-) and to be honest I wished I wasn't going today, as I am still terrible weak, had trouble walking around the supermarket on Saturday as was very unsteady, I didn't realised how ill I have been. But you got to earn a crust haven't you. Nice to see Charlton regain their proper position in life above the eagles!!!!! Must apologise Biggins but you got to admit it was to good an opportunity to miss, especially after the rotten year we been having. Have a good day everyone.
  12. Don't be stupid Chris its me, the only person who report on everything that is non weather related, don't worry I am sure I will get back to normal tomorrow, oh blow gone and done it again, nothing about the weather in this! Think I better edit this to make it a little bit weather related, think we might be planning a wedding my boy a spitting image of his dad, so ugly, fat, but unfortunately without my brains, got engaged about two years ago, to this lovely model like young lady 7 years younger to him, In fact the exact opposite to his mum whose nickname is tubs, don't know how he managed it, can only say that for the first time in my life I'm jealous of him :-) anyway the loving couple decided to visit yesterday and they mentioned a wedding. This is the first time the word wedding have broken the surface, so her indoors got excited, and the question of where, when etc was raised. Unbeknown to me where we have decided to have Marion's (commonly referred to previously as her indoors, and boy she is common, originally comes from Mottingham and you can't get anymore common than that) where they are thinking of taking the plunge Eastwell manor down ashford way, absolutely beautiful setting for a wedding. Getting there weather will be mentioned in a few minutes promise. So we have been asked to go to there we them to a wedding fair, I glared at my son and suggested my presence wasn't required, and do you know what the cheeky so and so said, well if I got to go so have you, true love! Then a date was discussed look like could be June 2016, now both Dave and Hannah constantly take the mick out of my interest in the weather and you geeks (his words not mine) on here , he then states if your that good at weather forecasting can you please tell us what the weather going to be like on February 23rd this year and the best day in June 2016 for them to book the venue. So that's todays challenge for you lot out there, any help would be appreciated, oh and while you got your crystal ball out can I ask about February 1st and 2nd for that common lady I got married too all those years ago as it her 60th party and Eastwell manor is a bit of a trek in bad weather. I am sure you will disappoint my little boy, will you :-)
  13. Morning all, this is Dartford reporting, can confirm sunny sky's and a frost, yes a frost on the car and road and pavement looks very icy, over and out from Dirty Dartford. Think I might have lost it.
  14. Morning all, hope everyone's ok this rainy morning, the takeover of Charlton has now been concluded, so its a case of wait and see now, hopefully it will be a good thing, mind you poor bloke just found out that the drainage under the pitch has collapsed and blocked, don't think I will be seeing much footy until a dry spell occurs for a few weeks. Talking about collapse our brave lads out in Australia have also managed that feat quite spectacularly, if your a cricket fan just accept its going to be an Aussie whitewash. Was going to football today, but that been called off, so it's taking the decorations down, seems only yesterday that we put them up! Anyway hope you have a good one and you all keep dry.
  15. Morning All, hope you are all well, was I the only who heard thunder last night, heard two rolls in quick succession, certainly sounded like thunder but as know one reported anything I doubt I need, can promise it wasn't curry related as I and the misses didn't have one! Dry out at present with a breeze, not gentle stronger than that. Clouds are scudding by. For those at work an important announcement its POETS day, I know the days of the week are confusing at this time, but its Friday. That's my good deed done for the week. I know you are all interested in my love (don't tell her indoors) sport, expect an announcement that Charlton has been taken over today, by a multimillionaire Belguim business man, this hopefully stablish our future and make it interesting for the next few years, as the only way to stop championship teams from losing money is promotion to the premiership. Inspection at the valley today to see if the FA cup match can go ahead on Saturday, I doubt if the ground will be passed fit. Cricket isn't to bad either after this awful performance it appear the bowlers have started to strike back let's hope the batsmen can as well? Had a very disappointing phone call from a senior engineer yesterday who for understandable reasons decided to hand in his notice, it only took us two years to recruit him, so must admit to being really peed off about that, nothing we can do to prevent him leaving, not money related but too much travelling, shame as he's a very good engineer and I spent the whole interview telling him how much travelling he would have to do. Oh well back to recruiting, something I don't enjoy, but we got to employ a few more refrigeration engineers, ideally senior ones at that, trouble is they are as rare as hens teeth. Whilst on the work front this year is looking manic, had a long conversation with my main customer who has decided to advance his his plans for expansion by around 6 months, which will put me under pressure, the first order will now be in February / march time followed by a big one in July / August time, so could be around 8 millions pound worth that will need to be complete by September 2015, with a similar value by a year later. Lucky I am still on holiday! I hope all those that might be affected by the weather stay safe and dry, and you all have a great day, thanks john and Coast for all your updates, and technical bit and pieces, so looking forward to the weather settling down, and the cooler weather arriving, who knows we might even get some frosts and snow, but let's hope mother don't swing to much in that direction as she has with the wind and the rain, would hate to see a long cold and snowy period as I have already survived a winter of 62/63!
  16. Morning All, hope everyone's ok, finally stopped raining in drenched, dirty Dartford, went down the town yesterday and looked at the river darenth as it passes past the church certainly was a lot deeper than normal and the level was up to the bottom of the seats. Certainly the flood defences which they put in some years ago have saved dirty Dartford from severe flooding. The wife has got work today as no doubt a lot of you have, so have a good day, hope everybody dry and not to much damage has been caused by the wind and rain, let's hope that johns right about it looking like a dry spell in around a weeks time and that the temperatures are on the way down, it would be nice to have a spell of cold frosty mornings, although the last one we had put paid to my windscreen, must remember to get a new one fitted. As I said before I'm a bit of a Luddite when it comes to computers and their functions, even being a designer of complex systems, which involves use of computers and their associated programmes, I still test these by reverting to the good old fashion way off pen and paper plus brain power, people think I'm mad that I use these programmes to check my own calculations and not use the computer version as the answer, all I can say is my way works. But I have very little trust in what the computer tell me, I suppose I'm lucky I got brought up when you had to calculate everything, I still got all the formulas, charts etc going back to the 19th (yes 19th) century in my shed and I still occasionally refer to these. Think I gone a bit off the track there (yes I know I'm never been on track), all I was meant to be asking when I had to go to my information on the forum I notice I got 2 friends chilly milly and coast (thanks) anybody know what these are for / do? I never had friends before and I don't the protocol, any advice would be appreciated, wouldn't want to upset people by not acknowledging them in the correct manner if I am meant to. Temperature is 6.1c and pressure rising so might be a decent day, clouds what are about are high, and yes, there's blue sky about. Hope everyone has a great day whatever your doing.
  17. Morning All, hope all your hangovers are little ones, let's hope for a happy and prosperous new year for all. Hope you had a great time last night, must admit it was very quiet around our little area, first time I can remember no fireworks or people walking / dancing / falling over outside either, most strange. Me and the wife managed to down a bottle off champagne to celebrate all the arrivals and departures of last year, and raised a glass to all our friends scattered over the world. Seems funny that the ones in America are going to bed after a drunken night but the ones in Australia are approaching the end of the first day of 2014. 2013 well what can you say about it, I think overall I am pleased its over with, work wise had better years, Infact 2014 should be a cracker, little Eva arrived late which was a hi light, no marriages but a split up and a coming together of 2 old friends in the family equalled that side out. 2 deaths and 2 births again keeps the number similar, so I think you can say after reflection it was fairly average year. 2014, works look good, a set of identical twins due to be born, wife's 60 th birthday meal in February, funny how you know some things but the bad things are hidden away. I hope that for you lot out there in cyber space, who hopefully are becoming good mates (unless you don't like the dribble I occasionally come up with then I hope we are at least friends) have an outstanding 2014 and you get everything that your heart wishes, including, snow, a Thames streamer, good health and if you want it prosperity. May you all have a successful 2014 (from a personel point can you, whoever you are hurry up and take over Charlton, and can the English cricket team find some fight, and my final wish is not to upset her indoors, but unfortunately that one crashed in flames around a minute past midnight) Have a great new year everyone. Oh yea it dry, cloudy, warm with a slight breeze.
  18. My A7 is the greatest car I ever owned, quick, loves the spoiler and versatile unlike its owner. It is nippy outside, but at least its dry (well outside).
  19. Like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year. Enjoy whatever you are up too tonight. Forgot to mention what a horrible journey down to the heart of Kent, debris everywhere and flooding coming of fields, streams overflowing and mud all over the roads. The journey home was worse as the floodwater was higher, thank goodness for a Audi Quattro certainly earned its spurs tonight. Had a nice cuddle with the new grand child, and the elder one as well, couldn't hold her for long but managed a 5 minute cuddle, shame when you get old and the parts start to cease working, pity the left shoulder will never be able to lift anything heavier than a light shopping bag, not even an 8lb baby. That's enough of feeling sorry for myself, tonight is going to be a night for looking forward, for enjoyment and for great memories, perhaps around midnight a quick pause to remember those who are no longer with us, but most importantly look forward to another new year, with boundless opportunities to look forward to and if possible take, for who know by next year we might be millionaires :-) Enjoy yourself everyone.
  20. Morning all. After a very mixed and emotional day yesterday, hopefully back to normal today, with a birth and death in the same day and the likelyhood of the saga of the Charlton take over collapsing or hopefully being hijacked by another syndicate it all got a bit too much, even managed to crucify a turkey curry and bugger up a very expensive card for the proud new parents and got into trouble over both of those and then she finally lost it with me when I done the same mistake of the bag for the teddy, guess whose going to bluewater this morning. Think you can say I had a very costly, upsetting and frustrating day yesterday, It was not helped by the two mistakes which annoyed me as much as the wife, just sometimes my brain does not communicate correctly to my hands, so I can understand why her indoors isn't speaking to me, although I thought it was a little harsh to say I done it deliberately so I had to go to bluewater again, surely no man in his right mind ever wants to go to that hell hole. After bluewater off to she little Evelyn and welcome her into the family, hopefully shoulder permitting I will get a cuddle, I'm sure the teddy will be a big hit, he's got a lovely duffle coat so he won't get cold, but feel sorry for the second teddy whose got to fit onto her push chair as he's naked, but he got fur so I hope he will be all right. Suppose I better put something about the weather, rain drops on the windows this morning, let's hope there not to much rain as its I got a good hours drive into the heart of Kent to see Evelyn today, and with the flooding and trees down that might not be an easy drive. Hope you all have an enjoyable day today, and everything goes well as can be expected, and be careful on the roads. Plus please can we have some seasonal weather, nice cold, crisp and sunny days, with an odd snow shower around 7pm from a northerly, that's slowly turns easterly, which then leads to a good dumping from a Thames streamer so Dartford can win the cup, as it's the only cup I going to see won in my lifetime, unless I change my team. I see I just completed 700 posts, I wonder how many weather related ? I think at least 10 :-)
  21. What a strange place this world, after the excitement of this morning and us becoming grand parents at the same time our lovely old next door neighbour passed away, brought us back down to earth with a bump, such a shame as she was healthy and fit, saw her going down the shops just before Christmas, been our neighbour for over 36 years going to be strange, will have a drink tonight in commiserations and celebrations, must admit to sitting here with some tears in my eyes, wife's upset as well. Lovely clear sky's, plenty of of stars out. Sad but happy night, think I'm confussed of Dartford.
  22. Chilly milly thank you, yes she is, sorry added picture later, being a bit o a Luddite it takes me a while to add things like a picture, she certainly is gorgeous and will be the apple of nannies eye. Should be able to have a cuddle this time round as with her sister I had a major shoulder operation and couldn't hold her, might still need some help but I'm sure I be able to manage. Cor, that's exciting, just went to my profile and found I got a friend, don't know how that happened but thank you Coast :-). Went there as my accountant didn't think that if The tax man looked at my account on here, then putting interests as dodging taxes was advisable :-), I suppose he might have a point, but how did he know? Must be a very small world. Just to keep on topic, it's the 3 W's warm, wet and windy. Must have had more rain than I thought as the back garden is under water, worrying when you thin we live on top of a hill!
  23. Survived Bluewater, handy being so close and knowing it opened early today, got everything done in under an hour, now got to deliver 2 teddies (don't ask, I didn't I just paid, think the theory is 1 for push chair and 1 for bed) really I don't think she indoors could make her mind up that's why we got 2, baby also got clothes, hopefully see her tomorrow! Still a shade blowy nothing out the ordinary, and wet but again nothing to write home about, thanks for all the congratulations, but I really didn't do anything :-).
