  1. To be honest I don't know how it's supposed to come across... It's technically brilliant, incredibly cute and a d*mn good picture to boot but somewhere at the back of my mind, something is sniggering at me for voting for it - nothing personal against Wibs - I just have this nagging impression that I shouldn't vote for it. Possibly because I have this natural "anti-popular" sentiment that makes going for what (in my mind) is the best photo by a mile (no offense to any of the other fine efforts) wrankle with me for some reason. It's possibly the same thing that stops me from ever buying an iPod.... Hope that helps - it doesn't help me much! DS
  2. I dunno, for some reason I'm loathe to vote for it, but Wibs' robin gets my "click". And I thought I had the cute vote down pat with my squirrels. Oh well, back to the CCD sensor.... DS

I fed this chap - normally they run off and bury the nuts - this time he decided to eat it on the fence - ideal for me!

Looks like we just missed a storm - I wish I'd caught this about ten minutes earlier though!
  11. OK here goes. I'm sure they don't match up to what has gone before but here are a few snaps from my recent trip to Scotland: I was experimenting with my new camera and I found the black and white option (plus a little simulated red filter to go along with it!): This next one was a result of mucking around with the exposure and a good bit of timing with the cloud cover: Thirdly - who says it's always windy in Scotland? For interest's sake the first two were taken in the Findhorn Valley near the Cairngorms and the third was looking across Loch Na Keal on Mull.. DS

  20. Hey all, Wasn't sure where to post this - I hope I've chosen correctly Anyway, on Saturday (August 5th) I'm jetting off to Inverness for a holiday in Speyside and the Isle of Mull. I know it's still a bit far off (plus the models are all up in the air) but would anyone care to try to give me an idea of the weather I might expect? I'm hoping for dry and breezy to keep the midges off! TIA DS
  21. That would make sense except for the fact that the "drops" were falling at a much slower rate than the "normal" drops I could see elsewhere. Also large drops are definitely not flattened disc shaped. Plus my floor is right at the top of the building and the majority of the guttering is at the same level as us Not sure how vapour would shape water drops in the way I saw... Maybe they were hail that was "falling apart" as it fell into an updraught... Hmmm DS
  22. All, We've just had what will hopefully be the first of many heavy showers down here in central London (Charing Cross). I was watching the downpour from a 13th floor office. I had a more or less straight down view. I saw something most odd - there seemed to be a mixture of rain, soft hail and .... something else. Every now and then I would see what appeared to be snowflakes. Now, in no way am I claiming I saw snow - it's 30 degrees for heaven's sake but I know I saw what appeared to be very slowly falling (possibly floating even) precipitation. As I had a chance to look more closely at this pption I noticed that it seemed flat, almost disc like and was very reflective (almost white). As I was at the side of the building I'm thinking that this may have been an effect caused by upwards moving air causing the drops (which were larger than average) to be "squashed flat" from below. I can't think of any other explanation.... Has anyone else seen anything like this or does anyone have any alternative ideas? I know it wasn't snowing..... DS
  23. Indeed - light snow falling on the roof of the Adelphi building - Charing Cross. DS
  24. Brief but loud??! Snow shower here in Bromley - first of the spell afaik... DS
