  1. Can't even say its to the north of you either I'm afraid..
  2. 2008. Only the 2nd half of April and 1st half of May were any good. 1st half June and 2nd half July were OK. Total 2 months if you included half-months
  3. Yes this March has had hints of all of 1995, 2006 and 2018 in it, analog wise the best type of march to get to precede a summer. Also wasn't March 1976 the wettest month of that dry period? (Not looking through rose tinted glasses, only the facts there probably are some poorer analogues out there as well)
  4. Another couple from 1996 1. Heat and storms of early June. It reached 33C as early as 7th June and severe thunderstorms broke out. We had a small tornado here and there were reports of ball lightning, and widespread hail. It heated up suddenly after a woefully cold may and this contrast made these storms very severe. I don't think this event is widely talked about. 2. A glorious heatwave from 15 to 22nd July which again culminated in 33C. This broke down to more severe storms, with very large hail in Surrey (and other areas I think) and my neighbour who worked in Bristol said this was the worst storm they'd had in living memory. Again, I never hear this spell mentioned.
  5. March 2020 didn't, despite the warmth just after lockdown struck. Highest that month was 19.4 on 24th. Much warmer than anything this month admittedly.
  6. 8.9C and 78mm A changeable month. A couple of northerly shots, but a warm spell mid to late month, and a couple of slow moving lows lasting a week each, giving many days of sunshine and showers. Quite sunny
  7. First 20C - Easter Monday 10th April First 25C - 17thMay First 30C - 24th May It's interesting to see quite a few mentions of 35C. It's becoming expected isn't it now given that it's happened most years since 2015. Statistically though, the odds are that it most likely won't happen. Before 2015 it happened around 1 year in 10, or thereabouts.
  8. This also happened in 1998 and 2000, both had cold periods with some snow in the April's, and the Mays had very warm periods with thunder in many areas. 2000 was probably similar to 2008 though in that the 2nd half wasn't as good as the first.
  9. I think the awful cold may of 1996 is what made those storms on the 7th of June really severe. Very hot air moving over what would have been a very cold english channel.
  10. Yes I remember that. We were on the western edge of that system and the thunderstorm was only a minor one here. I think nearby Farnborough recorded the highest rainfall though. I think this was very similar in terms of intensity and area affected to 20th July 1992, another one from my childhood
  11. Ah the thought of plume season approaching, castellanus studding the sky, hairdryer easterly winds and deep booming thunder pushing in from the south... I will go for around 27th May, at the breakdown of a 5 to 7 day hot spell (maybe a 30C this May as well?)
  12. Yes, jeans and t shirt weather here, almost unbroken sun for the last hour
  13. It's very sunny to the north of you in Basingstoke and feels very springlike. Best day of the year so far.
  14. Agreed.. 2020 was the best spring. Would happily take this spring again, minus what else was going on at the time. Businesses focused on outdoor activities would have had a bumper season had it not been for covid. Spring 2021 had a forgettable march (cannot remember it at all apart from the 30th). April, it was sunny but not as much as 2012 was, and of course cold, and the May was abysmal, save the last 2 days The perfect spring would be something like March 2003, April2011 or 2020 and May 1992, 18 or 20 together
  15. August 22 I remember as being warm cloudy and humid to start, then a glorious spell from 6th to the 14th (better than 2003 generally - the heat was more prolonged but slightly less intense). Then a thundery breakdown 15th to 17th then it was warm but alternating sunnier and cloudier days for the rest of the month (with 1 very wet day on the 25th). This then broke down with a great thundery 2nd week to September with consecutive night time thunderstorms here on 4/5th and 5/6th, with other dribs and drabs of thunder scattered throughout
  16. Yes I think february takes the prize as the most boring month of the century!
  17. A warm thundery and quite wet summer would be nice. Something like June 2003, July 2006 and August 2004 would work, with combining heat waves, thunderstorms but keeping drought issues at bay
  18. 16-18C is nice if you have calm and clear skies, add any hint of a breeze at that temp though and there's a chill in the air. Much better than, say 3C with cold drizzle though admittedly
  19. Yes indeed.. this week's snow was good to see but as we go further into March, even less likely to settle.. bring on 20C+ and sunshine
  20. Even down here in the south we had a decent fall. Rain in the afternoon of the 2nd gradually turned to snow in the evening giving a good couple of inches but it all froze overnight. It was nevertheless on the ground for a good 3 days. I don't remember any other snow here in early March 1995 but IIRC another event happened on the 28th. We had snow to rain with no settling, but further north it was a good event I believe.. before 21C was reached just a few days later!
  21. Not sure if people have noticed, chance of a good gale on Monday? 56mph gusts in the forecast. Named storm?
  22. Well it's all rain now, but easily the best snow event since February 2019 here. When winter can't deliver, spring does!
  23. July 2007 i believe only hit 25 point something on the 15th, actually a warm thundery day in the south but that was it. Highest of that month
  24. Yes very boring, although it being as dry as its been is a small novelty I guess
