  1. Well that's it then.. cold front now gone through. Goodbye to summer, and the chance of 20C for 6m or so.
  2. Might be a date record. I seem to recall somewhere got to around 27C in Lincolnshire just before Ophelia, around the mid month period of course. The west of course was wet and really windy EDIT. Just checked, 26.7 is the record for the 7th, 26.2 for the 8th, 27.8 actually for the 9th. No records appear to have gone in this spell. The 10th is 25.6, could this go tomorrow? 3. April 2021. Maximum temperature wasn't far from average but the minimum was the coldest since 1922. Almost as sunny as April 2020 IIRC. June 2015 September 2015 April 2017? A while ago, but IIRC October 1992 was very cool, but quite sunny December 1992 (albeit some areas probably suffered persistent fog around xmas) December 2010 was quite sunny (not the sunniest but probably firs this category somewhat)
  4. April 2023. Can't remember anything from the month and it was only 6m ago. November 2013 is the one that sticks out for me as being cloudy, dry and full of nothingness. August 2023 quite boring as well January 2022 March 2021 July 2020
  5. 12.4C and 134mm. Warm, widespread thunderstorms unusually late, around the weekend of 21st, leading to a stormy end, akin to 2000. 80mph inland gusts across the south around 29th
  6. The only truly stormy winters I remember were 89/90 and 13/14 (from start to finish aanyway - other winters have had small periods of storminess of course). If we can't have cold and snowy then my second choice would be a winter with many gales (but without the destruction and flooding etc) for some real weather interest.
  7. The document that opens up appears to be from last July. However, loved the heatwave, one of the best ever for consistency and even more remarkable it sits outside of meteorological summer. Its a shame it didn't end in thunderstorms here (though we had a good one this weekend just gone instead)
  8. Who'd like this succession of months: March 2023, April 2012, may 2021, June 2012, July 2007, August 2008. Now if that happened we'd be looking at a truly diabolical spring and summer combo.
  9. For me, I remember November 2013 as being exceptionally dull (and very boring) with practically no sunshine here. The month was anticyclonic, so this might not be the same everywhere. I never hear of this being mentioned a dull month tbh but it just sticks out as very dull.
  10. Agree with 2008, but some of that could be skewed as I was out of the UK for mid April to mid may (what was probably the best period of this spring and summer). From what I remember March was not bad, but non descript. There was an interesting gale on the 10th and wintry showers around Easter but these were a nothingness really. There was no springlike weather in the 1st half of April, save the 1st 3 days we're 'ok'. We actually had thundersnow on the 6th. 2nd half of May was very wet. June was very mediocre, but not too wet. July was summery for a week from around 22nd but August was one of the worst summer months that I recall (worse than this July, and nearly as bad as July 07 and June 12). Spring and summer 08 from my experience probably totalled less than 2 weeks of decent settled weather whilst I was in the UK.
  11. It would make a lot of difference to the perception of it, yes. Also, summer 2023 is now widely referred to as a front loaded summer. Will this still be true? Technically not summer, but this spell will be the most remembered this year I think..
  12. Maybe a tornado as well then, to lift the bars of chocolate from somewhere, into the cloud. Then they can rain down
  13. Voted for the option that favours heat. Whether its September, June, july or January I don't care, this weather is awesome. This heatwave is probably as notable for its length as 1911 and 1906 were for their intensity. Only the 2011 heatwave was probably more noteworthy as an autumn heatwave than this one in my lifetime (the absolute maxes were lower, but it stretched right into october)
  14. Let's go 15.8C and 85mm. There'll be a warm spell with a thundery breakdown. Unremarkable 1st half but warm and unsettled 2nd half
  15. I think we will have a trend broken this year. I DO feel we could have a warm tropical september and I feel the winter could be a cold one as well. The 13th June enigma was broken this year and so too can the warm september/mild winter trend. Bit of a long shot admittedly but let's hope..
  16. Interesting as Odiham and Reading are very close to each other, but 50% more sun in Reading...
  17. I think June was too good a month to rate the summer as a poor one. Sure, July has cancelled it out to make it just average and August will be pretty average overall, but we have had far worse summers than this. It's looking like being a warm summer too (16C plus CET). I caveat that I do see the positive in everything though so appreciate not all will see it this way.
  18. 2007 was worse than 2023. However, apart from that I can't think of many worse Julys. It was actually 'useable' at times in the 1st half but nothing but a turdfest after about the 20th
  19. Makes months like June 2012, July 2007 and August 2008 look like a dream
  20. An August made up of 1 aug 2013, 2-3aug 1990, 4-10aug 2003, 11-14aug 2022, 15-22 Aug 1995, 23-24 Aug 2016, 25-27 Aug 2019, 28-30 Aug 1991 and 31 Aug 2005 will do perfectly.
  21. Let's hope so. Beginning of the week starting off in the low 20s and not humid. Gradually building to a day of 30C, a hairdryer easterly wind, the southern sky becoming studded with castellanus later on and then BANG! That's what the summer has been lacking thus far.
  22. I remember June 97 as starting off quite nice but it gradually deteriorated into awfulness. It was a bit like June 2019 in reverse. I'm sure there was a Thursday and Friday that it rained non stop for 48h with low teens max and strong northerlies. There was some thunder though. July was actually quite nice. The first few days were cool and unsettled, as was the 14th to about the 17th. The rest was warm and sunny but without it being overly hot. We had a good storm on the evening of the 8th despite there being a 1030mb high overhead at the time. August, was one of my biggest weather regrets. I was in florida from 7th to 21st so missed out on the heat and humidity. I am not sure how many storms there were in our area but I know some areas of the SE were hammered around the 12th/13th. It was very humid when we got back though and the last week was quite wet. So a mixed summer, but thunder seemed to be more frequent back then.
  23. So what's everyone doing for Christmas then in a month's time? Oh sorry, forgot its July.
  24. It's a tough one to predict tbh. It won't be as bad as say 1986, but equally it won't be as good as last year. I'll go fairly average at 16.7C and 61mm
