  1. The others of you in cheltenham stick your heads out the window and you should find a nice suprise

VERY light snizzle here, flakes are that small you cant see them through a window (at least not mine because someone doesnt clean them :good: )

    1.2c with dew of -4

    SK

Thanks for the info, I can confirm extremely light ppt, with a fresh easterly breeze. Not possible to see whether it's actually snow or just drizzle.

  2. Loving the sound of this South West forecast:

    "Monday:

Raw northeasterly-winds will bring sunshine and snow-showers, though Cornwall may stay largely dry. More persistent snow arriving in the east by evening with some large falls possible over the Cotswolds. Maximum temperature 2 °C."

PS. Technically I'm in the South West but I think of myself more as the Midlands, after all Worcs is only 10 miles away! Quite nice really because I can choose the most favoured forecast region :):)

  3. I'm also looking forward to this a lot!!

Even if it turns to rain, it could well be snow on the hills; a couple of years ago it was more marginal that this is forecast to be - a two inch covering in Cheltenham which melted the following day, but on Cleeve Hill it stayed as snow and there was about 8-9 inches!

  4. I remember this well. I was about 12 at the time, and keen on the weather as well. I remember tracking the potential for snow, and recall that the morning forecast predicted heavy frontal snow coming down from the north. The time came and I was disappointed at first, because it was just rain. Unfortunately I had a choir rehearsal (I used to be a chorister at Gloucester), so I didn't see the snow falling - sod's law! However it lasted an hour or so, and by the end there was a lot of ice over all surfaces along with two inches of snow. At home my parents told me how heavy the snow was and that there was also lightning.

  5. I just read about this on the BBC news, and I was thinking - why when we're so much further north and endure rubbish wet summers can't we get a proper winter - with more snow than even in Spain?! Even my cousins in Corpus Christi in Texas had a five inch snow event on Christmas Day in 2004! Makes me wish I could migrate south sometimes, they get it all :-)

Anyway those are some lovely pictures in real heavy snow. The red umbrella picture captures it best for me, it has real artistic merit, good composition. Well done!

  6. Thanks very much :-)

I've been up into the hills again today. You'd have fun with a pair of ice skates! I thought it would have been gritted by now but the road from Aggs Hill to Whittington was glazed with ice! Skid marks everywhere and one broken down car calling the AA lol.

Me, I managed to stay steady on my bike until that corner!!! I gave up after falling off a second time and walked down to Withington (about a mile). And did I mention it was damn cold, I haven't known such consistent cold round here for years.

Down in Cheltenham there is still a good messy centimetre or two of snow in places, where it hasn't been gritted/trampled etc... still laying better on the hills though.

  7. I set off promptly on my bike at 8am this morning. First I cycled to Crickley Hill then walked up to the top, before riding back down to Leckhampton Hill and walking along the escarpment as far as Seven Springs. Lovely snowy scenes everywhere, and this was before the snow began to thaw later in the afternoon, so there was a covering as far as the eye could see. The snow was about 2cm deep in the town and only a shade deeper on the hilltops with about 3cm. I took a few pictures and here are the results:

  8. Lovely pics and place. Must've been cold! The third one is very atmospheric and IMO worth entering in to one of the photography competitions on NW.

I cycled up the Long Mynd from Cheltenham back in October. Made it up the Burway without stopping!!! It wasn't nearly as exciting last time I was up there though: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jtrickey/3003068325/

Annoyingly I also forgot my camera today and had to make do with a phone camera to take these pics of hoar frost in the Forest of Dean; it was much icier than I expected: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3102/315686...d3627e77f_o.jpg
