  1. It was warm enough today around lunchtime when the sun came out but coolish otherwise under a generally overcast sky.

Maximum temperature was 17.4⁰C at 13:30 up from a minimum of 8.8⁰C at midnight, humidity was 94% at 00:43 reducing to 70% at 13:22, wind has been 0 to 8mph northwesterly, pressure 1009.4hPa steady, there’s been no rain today and cloud cover had varied from 2/8 to 8/8.

  2. Yesterday was cool, occasionally wet and generally cloudy until teatime when everything cleared up, warmed up and brightened up, so much so that 7pm found me in the beer garden at the pub, lapping up the sun and several fine pints of heavy ale.

Today also cool and cloudy with a maximum temperature of 17.4⁰C at 15:52 up from a minimum of 11.8⁰C at 00:01, humidity is 74%, wind 0 to 13mph westerly, pressure is 1014.8hPa steady, there’s been 4.0mm of rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 7/8.

    Oi @Puffy MacCloud, happy now??

Loch Lubnaig is under the rain somewhere there.

No, not overly. Serves me right for laughing I suppose, but I recorded 12.5mm of rain yesterday here, and 125mm in the last 7 days. I strongly suspect witchcraft is at hand, or some other supernatural influence. Do you have a dragon? Would that explain why half the Pacific seaboard went up in flames just after you relocated to Canada? Is it now circling Scotland pishing on us all? This wet spell is certainly dragon on. (sorry, I’ll get my hat…)

Meanwhile, It’s been cool for the last couple of days with a maximum today of 16.8⁰C at 11:27 up from a minimum of 7.2⁰C at 01:31, humidity is 70%, wind is 2 to 16mph southerly, pressure is 1009.6hPa steady, there’s been 0.2mm of rain today and cloud cover is 7/8.

  5. Not too bad a day really, with a bright but damp and overcast morning improved as CMD’s malevolent influence receded towards the north and cloud cover broke up to allow a fair dollop of sunshine through. I hear there's going to be a bonfire in Aberfeldy tonight. Well, I say bonfire, there'll be a stake and some rope involved too.

Temperature maxed out at 17:28 with 19.3⁰C up from a minimum of 13.6⁰C at 00:48, humidity reduced from 94% at 03:51 to 70% at 17:33, wind has been between 1 and 9mph south-southeasterly, pressure rose from 1001.3hPa at midnight to 1007.0hPa now, there’s been 10.4mm of rain today all of which fell before dawn, and cloud cover went from 8/8 this morning to 3/8  now.

  6. It seems that all the rain that didn’t fall in July has fallen today with a maximum rate of fall of 235.2mm/hr. at 17:46. That makes 69.4mm today so far and 81.0mm in the last 24 hours. I’m just home having driven through a 12-mile-long carwash, which made the journey interesting.

Still no sign of thunder or lightning though.

  7. @JamesM Rumbles must have been to the west of you because I heard nothing from here to your east.... Pardon?

Maximum temperature was 19.1⁰C at 12:52 just before the rain started and up from a minimum of 13.8⁰C at 06:12 with current temperature at 16.1⁰C, humidity is 86%, wind 2 to 9mph south-southeasterly, pressure is 989.3hPa rising slowly, there’s been 0.6mm of rain since this shower started half an hour ago and cloud cover is 7/8.

  8. Right, so guess who was struggling his way up the hill on his hands and knees towards the pub when a deluge of cats, dogs and stair rods hit him with half the distance still to go. (Don’t over-think this one, twas me.) Then, with maybe five hundred metres to go, the sun came out and the temperature rocketed back into the 20s. Not the first time I’ve arrived at a pub steaming but certainly the most visually impressive.

Maximum temperature was 21.1⁰C at 14:22 up from a minimum of 13.9⁰C at 05:22, minimum humidity was 65% at 14:31 and maximum was 91% at 21:52, wind was 1 to 7mph southerly or thereabouts, pressure went from 992.4hPa at midnight to 988.2hPa at 14:02 and is now 988.9hPa steady, rainfall today totalled 17.2mm and cloud cover has been between 6/8 and 8/8.

Unlike just about everybody else, I haven’t heard any thunder today, nor seen any lightning and the village seems to have escaped the worst of the weather – except in the twenty minutes I took my stroll.

Looking forward to a barbeque on the 17th then.

  9. It's been a busy couple of days in Puffy World. Yesterday I went up to my late aunt's house in Clarkston to change a lightbulb before the new owners arrive on Monday, and today I went to the doctors' surgery to have blood tests and a blood pressure test. Well, I call it "the doctors' surgery" but, since the first Covid lockdown, it's become the nurses' surgery because all the doctors have buggered off and neither hide nor hair of them have been seen since. Presumably they're all away making £60 a pop for dishing out Covid jabs. Useless specimens. Anyway, the good news is that I have both blood and blood pressure, which is nice, and the nurses have everything under control, which is always the case anyway.

Temperature is currently 19.1⁰C down a bit from today’s max of 19.6⁰C at 12:58 and up from a minimum of 13.8⁰C at 06:15, humidity is 58%, wind between 4 and 11mph southerly, pressure has dropped to 996.5hPa and is still dropping quickly, there’s been no rain n the last 24 hours but it doesn’t feel far away and cloud cover is 7/8.

  10. Yesterday provided us with 4.6mm of rain between 9am and noon, and then the cloud broke up and by evening the sky was mostly clear. Today has been a constant transition of dark cloud, light cloud and clear sky that came in waves all day. Mostly though the greatest impression is one of reducing heat, which I find to be very welcome.

Temperature today maxed out at 22.8⁰C at 16:41 up from a minimum of 7.5⁰C at 05:22, humidity is 74% currently, wind has been between 0 and 11mph between southeasterly and southwesterly, pressure is 1006.7hPa steady, there’s been 0.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours (but I missed it somehow), and cloud cover has varied from 1/8 to 7/8 and back throughout the day.

    How's everyone?

Those of us in the south-west have been doing rather well, thank you for asking, with one of the best summers that I can remember for a fair old while. Very much like your photo generally, with lots of sunshine, blue sky and little in the way of wind, storms or even rain. You chose a good time to be here.

  12. Well the first day of the last month of summer continued the trend for this amazing season; warm, dry, bright from dawn to dusk and quite often sunny. What's not to like? Plus I got a bit of fly fishing in at the loch behind my daughters farm, but unfortunately the enormous trout I caught was far too big to fit in a photo. What are the chances, eh? Anyway, this is a weather forum so I took some pictures of clouds. And cows, which did fit-in to a photo.

Maximum temperature was 20.3⁰C at 14:47 now reduced o the minimum for the day at 9.2⁰C, humidity is 85%, wind 0 to 11mph westerly, pressure is 1013.6hPa rising slowly, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is now down to 1/8.

  13. The sun has just broken through for the first time today and the temperature jumped to 18.1⁰C up from a minimum of 9.3⁰C at 04:00, humidity is 66%, wind is 1 to 8mph westerly, pressure is 1006.6hPa steady, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 7/8.

Meanwhile my preparations for the Second Test in South Africa have progressed as well as I hope those of the Lions have gone. Timing is now the thing; I don’t want to peak too soon.

  14. Today was mostly overcast and we were drenched in the village here with, erm, 1.0mm of rain today, or 1.2mm if one prefers the 24-hour measurement.

Maximum temperature was 18.8⁰C at 12:54 up from a minimum of 12.1⁰C at 05:56, humidity went from 92% at 01:26 to 68% at 15:28, wind was 0 to 10 mph in my sheltered garden but probably twice that elsewhere as it was a westerly, pressure rose from 998.3hPa at 02:07 to 1004.7hPa at 20:25, there was a tiny wee bit of rain today and cloud cover was pretty consistently 8/8 throughout.

  15. I took my mother and younger daughter to the bistro down the road for lunch, and in celebration of the break in the heatwave I was singing the song that Don McLean would have written if he’d been frae Ayrshire.

So, bye-bye, to the sun in the sky, wore my wellies to the deli, but the weather stayed dry…

The temperature got up to 18.0⁰C at 15:23, humidity got down to 67% at 16:21, the maximum gust of wind was 11mph at 15:28, pressure reduced to 998.8hPa currently, rain increased to 4.8mm today and cloud cover varied between 8/8 and 6/8 with a period of sunshine around lunchtime.

  16. It’s rained. It has really, actually, properly rained. I’m so excited, I’m going to get my speedos on and roll about on the wet grass. And it’s lovely and cool. Bliss.

Maximum temperature was 13.7⁰C at 04:01 and minimum of 12.6⁰C at 07:53 now back up to 13.4⁰C, humidity is 87%, wind is 0 to 6mph westerly, pressure is 999.9hPa steady, 4.6mm of rain fell between 05:00 and 06:00 and cloud cover is currently 8/8 and looks like the sort of stuff that might add some more rain. Whoohoo!

  17. As the famous weather forecasting duo, Ron Roker and Lyndsey De Paul, once advised, “One drop of rain on your windowpane doesn’t mean to say there’s a thunderstorm comin'.” I might add that no drops of rain, and no rain-bearing cloud, and bright sunshine very probably mean that there won’t be a thunderstorm any time soon. I mention this because the Met Office reckons that I’m being blitzed as I type, and I’m not. Not even nearly.

Temperature now up to 20.0⁰C from 13.5⁰C at 04:22, humidity is 70%, wind is 2 to 5mph southwesterly, pressure is 1005.3hPa falling slowly, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours (nor in the last fifteen days,) and cloud cover is 5/8 high level overcast.

Notice anything?! I'll say. Him and his bran flakes were at the epicentre.

I didn’t as I was working in Edinburgh this morning,,,pretty crazy stuff

A likely tale. Or tail, possibly.

Meanwhile, in fragrant East Ayrshire, I strapped on my small portable oxygen tank and sallied forth to challenge the lawn with my new motor-mower. Much as I had suspected, my knackered lungs were severely tested by the heat and humidity and although I completed the task, I spent 20 minutes sitting on the steps in a puddle of sweat trying to catch my breath. At least I hope it was sweat.
