  1. Up until noon I thought that we’d finally crossed back over the border from Hotland to Scotland and could relax in the gentle warmth of 17⁰C under a lightly overcast sky, but it wuznay to be. In the last hour the sky has started to clear and the temperature is up to 20⁰C. I looks like it’s going to be a hot and muggy afternoon.

Temperature currently 20.0⁰C up from a minimum of 10.4⁰C at 05:28, humidity is a sticky 70%, wind is 2 to 9mph south-southeasterly, pressure is 1007.7hPa falling slowly, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 4/8 most of which is to the west.

It’s now been 14 days since it last rained here, which is remarkable for the west of Scotland, and the month of July has only seen 16.2mm of rainfall. It should rain tomorrow according to the forecast, which will be a great relief to the local farmers now that the hay is all baled and under cover.

  2. Well, a bit of same old, same old today with heat, sunshine and very light wind throughout the day - but, there are now some large, billowing, dark grey (if not quite black,) clouds to the west, which is very likely a harbinger of things to come.

Maximum temperature was 25.4⁰C at 16:05 up from a minimum of 11.9⁰C at 05:35, humidity maxed out at 87% at 03:22 and reduced to 50% at 15:26, wind has varied between 0 and 7mph mainly northwesterly, pressure has reduced from a maximum of 1010.5hPa at 09:06 to 1008.8hPa now and is looking steady, there has been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 2/8.

  3. Based on the consistently high-quality reporting of cool, cloudy conditions by our brethren from the east, I decided yesterday morning to head for the Borders in an effort to escape the heatwave in the west. Right enough, Galashiels was only 20⁰C at noon with overcast skies and a decent breeze. However, by 3pm in Peebles the temperature was up to 25⁰C with broken cloud and back in Ayrshire at 5pm in the pub’s beer garden it was up to 26⁰C, cloudless and calm, so perfect for soaking up the summer atmosphere and a few beers.

Today the temperature is now up to 22.8⁰C, humidity is 60%, wind is 1 to 7mph north-northwesterly, pressure is 1011.0hPa falling slowly, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is a very high, very thin and well broken 4/8.

Today is ‘Gardens in Bloom’ day in the village and, by coincidence, my new lawn mower has arrived, so I intend to spend the rest of the day fitting all the ancillary bits, filling it with oil and fuel, and then get out and pretend I know something about garden maintenance. Wish the garden luck folks…

  4. Higher and higher baby, that's the way the temperatures are going. And still as dry as a dry thing.

Maximum temperature today was 27.9⁰C at 17:23 up from a minimum of 13.1⁰C at 04:46, humidity went from a maximum of 90% at 05:03 to a minimum of 54% at 17:22, wind was recorded at 0 to 8mph, pressure went from 1020.7hPa at 07:23 to 1020.3hPa at 19:21, there was no rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours and cloud cover varied from 0/8 to 1/8 throughout the day.

  5. Maximum temperature today was 27.6⁰C at 15:55 up from 14.5⁰C at 00:23, humidity maximum was 93% at 05:21 and reduced to 47% at 14:47, wind was recorded at 0 to 7mph throughout the day swinging from southerly to southeasterly, pressure went from 1021.2hPa at midnight to a maximum of 1023.2hPa at 10:10 and is now 1022.7hPa, there’s been no rain in the last 24 hours, which isn’t surprising as there hasn’t been any cloud cover either.

@Mair Snaw Lang may yer lum reek.

  6. Another temperature record here today at 27.1⁰C currently. Not a cloud in the sky, no wind to speak of and humidity at 50% means that, for me at least, the air is adequately breathable, which is a boon. Meanwhile my primary beer guzzling partner, Big Ginger Geordie up the road, is suffering from a serious over-indulgence in sun worship and now has a head that looks like a cross between a pumpkin and a brake light. This as a shame as we are scheduled to make our ‘post-Covid’ return to the actual beer garden at the actual pub in the village this Friday, but he has listed himself as injured for now. Big Ginger Jessie more like.

  7. Shouldn't complain really, but it's never stopped me before; what is this heat about?! We decided to go out for lunch, to the cafe in the village, but went all around the houses to get there, which meant that although we left the house in nice warmth, we arrived at said cafe in boiling heat. Even a kick at the dug waiting at the door didn't lift my spirits. I hate heat!! However @Hawesy I've been to the east coast before, summer holiday as a kid in the '60s, North Berwick I think it was, with an open-air swimming pool filled from the sea, which froze my knitted swimming trunks to my skin. They took ages to thaw out and me even longer. I worried about ever being a boy again. I am most certainly not going back now. But thanks for the offer.

Temperature at 24.6deg.C up from 9.9deg.C at 05:01, humidity is 60%, wind is 0 to 2mph southerly, pressure is 1029.4hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is non-existent.

  8. The maximum temperature today was 25.3deg.C at 15:05, which was quite unnecessarily hot and requires a letter of complaint to be written to someone in authority. Is weather a devolved matter? Probably not; this has got Boris written all over it. Anyway, according to my weather station, today is the hottest day of the last 25 days and on further trailing through the menus I see that in the same period the lowest temperature was 7.8deg.C on the 6th of July. Meanwhile, again over the same period, the highest temperature in my office here in the house (east facing) was 20.2deg.C and the minimum was 18.4deg.C, which if nothing else shows the thermal inertia of 75cm thick walls. Right, Morag, bring me my quill and some parchment...

@NUT Sorry, just noticed your post - the rainfall amount for the last 25 days here is 16.2mm, which for this part of the west coast of Scotland is unusually little. May require a second missive.

    NOW BRING ME MY SNAW....

Possibly a tad ambitious for this week, old chap.

Meanwhile, in sunny Ayrshire, the cloud is dispersing and cover has reduced from 4/8 at 08:00 to 2/8 now, and therefore the temperature is building quickly to the very top end of my comfort levels. That's enough of that, thank you.

Temperature currently 23.8deg.C up from a minimum of 11.2deg.C at 05:25, humidity is 50%, wind is 0 to 6mph west-northwesterly, pressure is 1021.1hPa falling slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is well broken, thin and high.

26c here with fresh west wind Last block of small bale hay cut on Wednesday being baled just now and its really brittle so three day hay. Not usual hay weather for the north of Scotland.Spring barley changing colour every hour .Combines should roll into some winter barley next to the coast in about a weeks time.  Incredible catch up since the cold of April and May but also very satisfying.

Back in1976 I was working on the sledge between the baler and the rack, which was a five-pronged bale-stacking appliance that relied on me lifting bales off the back of the baler, swinging them around and loading them diagonally into the forks with four bales on the bottom row, then three above, two above them and one at the crown, and then pulling a large lever that dropped the forks onto the ground and (hopefully) left a stack of ten bales sitting in the field. 1976 was hot and I've never worked so hard since then but we stacked a fifty acre field in a day. Today felt a bit like that. The temperature here got up to 24.2deg.C at 17:38, which is the highest for the last month.

  11. It was completely overcast this morning but cloud cover started to break up from lunchtime onwards leaving us with a very pleasant afternoon. Just completed the beer run and am ready for the beer boys to arrive. Got a bottle of wine too, just to keep things equitable.

Maximum temp was 23..6deg.C at 15:38 up from 11.6deg.C at 03:04 and currently 22.9deg.C, humidity is 67%, wind is 1 to 4mph west-northwesterly, pressure is up to 1028.4hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 4/8.

  12. I was up in the west-end of Glasgow with one of my brothers at lunchtime and the car said the temperature was 24deg.C, which under a clear, blue sky wasn't surprising. Just got back home and the car said it's 23deg.C here, so 1deg.C less than in the city. That'll be the urban heat island effect then?

Weather station says it's currently 23.0deg.C up from a minimum of 10.6deg.C at 05:32, humidity is 57%, wind is 1 to 3mph west-northwesterly, pressure is 1024.1hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and there isn't a single cloud in the sky. A beautiful day. Beers called for I think.

  13. High, thin cloud has broken at times and thickened up at others but it's managed to remain bright all day, with or without actual sunshine. The westerly wind is sheltered from my weather station be the trees behind my house so the recorded 1 to 6mph is probably at least half of the proper result. Yet another nice day though.

Maximum temperature was 21.2deg.C at 16:12 up from a minimum of 8.4deg.C at 05:01 and it's currently 19.9deg.C, humidity is 68%, there's been a constant (and refreshing) westerly breeze, pressure is 1018.9hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 7/8.

  14. It's been an absolute belter of a day so far. Went up to my mother's for lunch, which we had outside in the sunshine, and am going out for dinner with younger daughter and some friends tonight to the hotel in the village, which will include a nice walk.

Temperature maximum was 22.6deg.C at 14:32 up from a minimum of 11.1deg.C at 03:04 and it's currently 21.6deg.C, humidity is 66%, wind is 1 to 3mph west-northwesterly, pressure is 1016.6hPa steady, there's been no rain today although a less-than-torrential shower yesterday evening produced 0.4mm and cloud cover is 4/8.

  15. Today the BBC app says it's going to go from cloudy to showers and sunny bits, the Met O says it's going to go from cloudy to sunny periods and it's actually already sunny with a lot of light, white clouds that show no immediate sign of rain at all. Irrespective of all that it's warm and muggy.

Temperature currently highest of the day at 22.4deg.C up from a rather warm minimum of 14.9deg.C at midnight, humidity is 67%, wind is 1 to 4mph northeasterly, pressure is 1011.6hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 5/8.

  16. It was cloudy and threatening rain when I left home at lunchtime to take my daughter to Edinburgh Airport and it rained while I was on the M8 but now back home and the clouds are well broken with loads of sunshine streaming through. It's a tad muggy though so someone could do with turning on the fans at Whitelees Wind Farm and provide at least a bit of breeze down the road here. What's the point of a wind farm otherwise?

temperature currently maximum for the day at 20.9deg.C up from a minimum of 13.8deg.C at 04:12, humidity is 67%, there's no wind whatsoever from any direction, pressure is 1011.3hPa falling slowly, there's been no rain here for 24 hours and cloud cover is currently 3/8.

  17. At 07:00 the sky was clear of clouds and it looked like it was going to be a bright, sunny day. Not now. Completely overcast. Again.

Temperature was 21.6deg.C at 11:43 up from a minimum of 10.5deg.C at 01:43 but now fallen back to 21.1deg.C, humidity is 61%, wind 0 to 4mph northwesterly, pressure is 1014.3hPa falling slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8.

  18. No weather to report over the past couple of days, just the default overcastitude. Today similar; overcast, warm enough, light breeze, no rain. Yawn.

Temperature maximum was 19.0deg.C at 15:24 and minimum was 13.4deg.C at 04:26 and currently 16.4deg.C, humidity is 83%, wind 3 to 5mph southwesterly, pressure 1018.9hP (height adjusted), there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8.

  19. Today started dry and a little cloudy and ended up dry and a little bit more cloudy. That's progress for you.

Warmest of the day was 20.8deg.C at 17:14 and the coolest was 7.8deg.C at 01:36, most humid was 92% at 03:03 and least humid was 55% at 12:51, there's been hardly any wind at all today but in the odd puff a southerly source could be detected, pressure has increased from a minimum of 997.4hPa at 10:37 to 1002.3hPa now, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover has risen from 3/8 this morning to 5/8 later in the afternoon.

  20. It's a day of clouds and puddles here so far, and very pleasantly cool for a wee change. We seemed to have dodged the torrential rainfall that hit some of you yesterday, which is much appreciated.

Maximum temperature of 14.9deg.C was at midnight from where it dropped to 13.7deg.C at 04:55 and has now risen again to 14.3deg.C, humidity is 89%, wind is 1 to 3mph southerly, pressure is 1002.0hPa steady, there's been 5.8mm of rain today and 13.2mm in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8.

  21. Met office weather warning for thunderstorms in place for my area today but not a sign of one here. We've had 4.2mm of rain overnight and into today including, according to my weather station, a downpour with a maximum rainfall rate of 82.2mm/hr at lunchtime, which I didn't see as I was up in Glasgow having lunch. The roads in the Southside were awash with lots of the road gullies spewing out rainwater rather than channeling it away, and there were twigs and leaves everywhere so there had obviously been some serious rainfall before I arrived.

Temperature maximum was 21.4deg.C at 17:32 up from a minimum of 13.9deg.C at 05:07, humidity is 66%, wind is zero to very light and south-southeasterly, pressure is 1004.4hPa falling slowly, there's been 3.2mm of rain since midnight (4.2mm in the last 24 hours, which is also the total for the last week,) and the sky is completely overcast and occasionally quite dark.
