  1. Yesterday was a tad disappointing weather-wise, being overcast although bright enough and not quite as warm as it had been over the previous three days. Rugby-wise, on the other hand, it was a fabulous day with three very watchable games and, most importantly, the right result in each. The right result in as far as the winning side in each game matched the name I had on my betting slip; accumulator no less. Very satisfactory.

Today the sun is back and so is a bit of warmth. Temperature maxed out at 11.3deg.C at 14:34 after a minimum of -1.2deg.C at 05:43, humidity is 77%, wind is 0 to 3mph, pressure is 1029.6hPa falling slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover has averaged 3/8.

  2. Four in a row, four in a row.

    Hello!

    Hello!

Four in a row, four in a row. (Sunny, warm days that is. Thought I'd bring a bit of chav into the proceedings.)

Temperature 14.8deg.C down from a maximum of 16.5deg.C at 14:24 and up from a minimum of 0.3deg.C at 06:26, humidity is 66%, wind 0 to 3mph generally southerly, pressure is 1034.5hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24hours and cloud cover has varied from 1/8 to 3/8 throughout the day.

  3. Well today we reached the giddy heights of 17.2deg.C at 14:19 and a maximum gust of merely 6mph in a very largely cloudless sky. It really feels like Spring has sprung. With garden entertaining about to come back in to fashion I'm off to B&Q tomorrow to peruse some patio furniture. I feel something Roman in appearance might be appropriate, with a portico and a length of Hadrian's wall. And a grape peeler.

  4. My mum, dad and aunt (mum's sister) were all keen gardeners but due to the onset of old age and loss of mobility my aunt's garden, which was previously a magic carpet of vegetables, herbs, flowers, shrubs, bushes and trees, had mainly become overgrown and impenetrable, and my parent's garden was in need of a makeover to make it easier to handle and more of a place for rest and relaxation. A local gardening collective was commissioned for the work to both gardens in late Autumn and it was completed in February. Unfortunately two out of the three didn't survive through winter to see the finished results but I can tell you that the change in both cases was impressive. I therefore went up to my mum's house yesterday adorned with Mothers' Day gifts with a view to celebrating the day with a picnic in her garden. And then it rained. Picnic in her sitting room instead. Don't tell anyone. Still, it was a nice get together. Until the rugby came on. Very exciting but no lineout means no ball means no win. All well and good to be free and expressive but if we can't get the basics right there's little point. Anyhoo...

Temperature 10.0deg.C up from a minimum of 2.8deg.C at 06:06, humidity is 77%, wind 0 to 4mph west-northwesterly, pressure is 1024.6hPa rising slowly, there's been no rain today and the cloud cover is currently 7/8.

  5. I was out earlier getting beer for the rugby this afternoon and it was cold, wet and windy. (The weather, not the beer. Nor it's effects.) Now sunny, warmer and pretty calm, so the weather is doing it's best for us. The rugby on the other hand has been predictably poor in the first match. Italy seems to be going backwards this season (they could do with being replaced,) and although Wales won without help from the referee for the first time this season, they still played pretty woeful rugby. Hopefully France and England can produce a more exciting game.

Temperature has risen to 6.9deg.C now and pressure has risen to 993.8hPa and still rising, dew point is at 4deg.C and yet Diablo is again predicting snow. Don't ask.

  6. Much nicer day today with sunny periods far exceeding dull ones and only a couple of short showers to contend with. Looking forward to a walk round the village that will see me home without getting hail blasted as I was yesterday.

Temperature 5.5deg.C down from a max of 6.1deg.C at 12:29 and up from a minimum of 3.4deg.C at 02:55, humidity is 83%, wind currently 3 to 8mph south-southwesterly with a maximum gust of 22mph at 10:53, pressure is 991.5hPa steady, there's been 3.6mm of rain since midnight and 11.6mm in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 8/8 but there were some breaks in it earlier, and the dew point is at 3deg.C despite which Diablo he say snow a-coming. Eejit that he is.

  7. Right, so, that was a mistake. I went for my walk on my own ("I'm not going out in that, you nutter!") and quickly discovered as I rose towards the top end of the village that, away from the shelter of the wood behind my house, it was a lot more windy than I thought, which in turn meant that the rain, then sleet, wet snow and ultimately hail hit me a lot harder than I had expected. My face feels as if it's been sand-blasted. Apparently that's also how it looks. Hey ho, here's hoping for better weather tomorrow.

  8. Damp and breezy today. Not ideal weather for a walk but I'm going anyway.

Maximum temperature at midnight was 7.7deg.C, which went down to 3.8deg.C at 06:54 and now back up to 5.8deg.C, humidity is 84%, wind 4 to 8mph southerly with a maximum gust of 20mph at 00:38, pressure is 986.2hPa rising like a rocket, dry at the moment but there's been 3.0mm of rain today and 10.2mm in the last 24 hours, (the bulk of the rain was probably horizontal and therefore not recorded,) and cloud cover is 8/8 but currently thin enough to allow a bit of brightness.

  9. Nothing much to talk about; we got a maximum gust of 20mph at 00:16 in the back garden but I can't say I was aware of anything spectacular.

Temperature 6.0deg.C up from 4.6deg.C at 04:01, humidity 84%, wind currently 2 to 5mph south-southwesterly, pressure 997.8hPa falling slowly, there's been 1.8mm of rain since midnight and 16.6mm in the last 24 hours,, cloud cover is 7/8 and breaking up in places sufficiently to allow some brightness through.

  10. Damp and slightly dull sort of day but relatively calm considering the forecast and not too cold.

Temperature 8.3deg.C down from a maximum of 8.8deg.C at 12:00 and up from a minimum of 6.3deg.C at 04:58, humidity is 84%, wind 1 to 3mph southerly with a maximum gust of 10mph at 11:05, pressure is 1014.1hPa dropping quickly, there's been 0.4mm of rain today and in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 8/8.

  11. My word for today is damp. It's not particularly cold or windy and it's not raining right now but it is still damp from the rain earlier.

Temperature is 7.8deg.C up from a minimum of 5.9deg.C at 00:01, humidity is 90%, wind is 1 to 5mph south-southeasterly, pressure is 1022.0hPa steady, there's been 4.6mm of rain since midnight and 5.0mm in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8 but you couldn't describe the day as either bright or dull, just in between.

  12. Well, according to Tam the Hun on the BBC lunchtime broadcast, this is the end of the good spell for dry, bright and coolish weather. Shame, I was enjoying it.

Temperature 7.6deg.C up from a minimum of -0.9deg.C at 07:00, humidity is 74%, wind 1 to 3mph southerly, pressure is 1027.5hPa dropping slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8 but thin enough to allow some brightness through.

Not a bad day at all. Dumfries House beckons for a bit of a wander.

  13. Went for a walk between 09:00 and 10:00 this morning and, although there was not a hint of a breeze then, it was perishing cold. Both the breeze and the temperature are up a bit now and the cloud is breaking up nicely.

Temperature 5.3deg.C up from a minimum of 0.8deg.C at 02:49, humidity i 67%, wind 0 to 3mph southerly, pressure is 1036.1hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours, cloud cover is 5/8 and the dew point is at -1deg.C.

  14. 13 hours ago, Blitzen said:

    E'ning all!

Sorry for my absence/return (depending on your point of view!}... LOL.

Thank Evans you're back. The balance of power in here can now move back towards sanity, sartorial scantiness, and suave sophistication. It's a fine day.

Temperature 2.9deg.C up from a minimum of 1.5deg.C at 07:31, humidity is 69%, wind is 0 to 1mph south-southeasterly, pressure is 1038.2hPa rising slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and although cloud cover is 8/8 it's thin enough to allow a decent amount of brightness. The dew point, interestingly, is at -2deg.C, which is lower than it's been for weeks.

  15. Well hark at you @mistyqueen with your blue sky and daffs on the way. Not here. There was some drizzle early on and it remained dull until an hour or so ago, but it's brightening up a bit now although still overcast and the ground is drying up.

Temperature 4.6deg.C down from a max of 5.3deg.C at 11:36 and up from a min of 0.4deg.C at 03:23, humidity is 83%, wind 3 to 8mph easterly with a max gust of 10mph at 10:51, pressure is 1032.7hPa rising slowly, there's been 0.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8.

  16. Yesterday the cloud cleared leaving a sunny blue sky that made my walk around the village a real joy. Today has again started a bit grey and overcast but it's still bright enough and it's dry, which is nice.

Temperature 2.7deg.C up from a minimum of 0.1deg.C at 00:09, humidity is 87%, wind 2 to 5mph east-northeasterly with a maximum gust of 8mph at 12:07, pressure is 1031.6hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 8/8.
