  1. Heavy snow here in Petts Wood/Locksbottom borders and temp dropped to Minus 0.9(from minus0.6 in about 5mins).Icicles forming on undercarriage of cars which is pretty amazing in March(would show you but not too hot on PC stuff!!).Really think later this afternoon things could get very interesting.Last night i felt it would be just coastal strip of Hampshire,Sussex and Kent would feel effects of LPS currently hitting CIs and Northern France. Now it seems Thames Streamer is ramping up(Well done SM on that one!!-Never hear Beeb ever mentioning that possibility),now it seems that LPS has moved further North and along with Thames Streamer quite a section of Sussex,Kent and South Essex could get a few surprises this evening and tonight-More lampost watching for some!!As is often the case with snowfall it is a case of Nowcasting as things crop up at very short notice.
  2. Just as we have finally had heavy snow for about 5mins it has stopped again!!Temp has dropped to Minus 0.6 but nothing really settled which is bizarre!!Probably wind blowing it about so much.Just saw Stav on BBC24 and it looks like best bet for snow is between 6pm this evening till about 10am tomorrow(this seems to be for Kent,Sussex and South Essex-maybe upto 8cms for some)On the Beeb graphics it looked like frontal snow has moved about 15-20miles Northwards compared to forecast about 7am but it might be my eyes playing up!!Jersey seems to be getting battered-airport shut etc and looks like they have another 12-18 hrs snowfall!!-Lucky Bu--ers!!
  3. What is it about this little bit of NW Kent??We have a very slight covering and have been flurrying but if anything the little snow we have is melting. We seem too far North to get any of Frontal snow that is hitting South of this region and don't seem to be getting effects of Thames Streamers!!This is like January again.Steve M-Will Orpington/Locksbottom get any beefy showers this afternoon or is that snowshield doing its job here??-Goods news only please
  4. Had a very light dusting this morning in Petts Wood/Locksbottom borders.Temp currently Minus 0.8 and dry although there was quite a heavy flurry about 15mins ago.Oh to be 75miles due South of here,Northern France expecting upto 40cms!!Can you imagine that if that hit the South East...This place would be in meltdown bigtime!!Still a chance we may get 5cms tonight although i think that will be Tunbridge Wells Southwards and Eastwards.Good Luck everyone who gets hit.Enjoy!
  5. Strong wind blowing, temp down to 1.1 but dry as a bone here in NW Kent(Just checked lampost outside my house!!)Radar looks promising but it has done in the past only to disappoint but we shall see.Looks like CI and Northern France could get pasted in next 24-36 hours if ppn charts are accurate.Looking forward, it certainly seems Spring is well and truly on hold till week commencing 18th March at earliest(and that is being optimistic!!)
  6. Temp here in Petts Wood/Locksbottom borders dropped to 1.9 degrees and has continued to fall steadily in last hour(was 2.5 degrees at 3.30pm).Bitter wind but dry here at the moment. Can't help but think we will have another near miss again here for NW Kent as has happened a few times this winter.Main LP seems to be too far South and will only impact Southern Counties and inland about 10-15 miles on current projections and then we are in the "hit and miss" shower activity and when it comes to that scenario the snow shield over this part of NW Kent will ensure we are in the "miss" zone.It is just my gut feeling about next 48hrs but good luck to those who get the snow.!
  7. Currently a dull windless day here in Petts Wood/Locksbottom borders with a temp of 7.8(peaked at 8 degrees at about 11am).Snow still on a knifeedge for this part of NW Kent.Gut feeling is it will stay South of here and skirt South Coast fringes of Sussex and Kent so really needs a Northward Correction of about 30 miles which is feasable but unlikely,Think the snowshield will work again for this area.Hope i am wrong as it would be nice to see landscape turn white once again but at the same time i am so looking forward to Spring after last weeks little taster and from my work point of view it would be good for growing season to start in earnest!! P.s.On a side note congrats to Wigan reaching Semi Finals of FA cup for 1st time in their history beating the Toffees!!
  8. Still trying to come to terms with potential for snow for some parts of the SE after the lovely mild sunny weather of last Mon-Wed.If nothing else, the weather in the UK is never boring!!Being in NW Kent we have had so many misses of snow events this winter i am not really building up my hopes and i think the LOW coming in from SW would need a Northwards movement for this part of Kent to be in firing line(think Sussex could be in for a good dump and those South of me in Orpington area have higher chances) but like most occassions this winter it is an ever changing position and maybe this time tomorrow we will be able to assess the snow potential. Congrats Steve M on 9999 posts on MOD thread.Be interested to hear your comments on snow potential for NW Kent.
  9. Working outside for a living i have waited a long time for a day like today.Very slight frost that was gone by about 7.30am and then clear blue skies and some warmth in the sun.We hit 13.2 today in Petts Wood/Locksbottom today but looking forward it looks like going cold again.Love the cold and snow but after today am not looking forward to next week if ECM/GFS are right!!Oh well, today was nice while it lasted and hopefully it wont be too long before we can have another day or two like today!!
  10. Just been looking at my records for last week and since last Wednesday here in Petts Wood/Locksbottom borders the highest temp we have had was 3.9 degrees(today) with the lowest temp being only -1.2(Thursday night). On top of that we have just had dull day after dull day with snow flurries Fri/Sat amounting to Nil accumulation!!Looking to this week it looks like the dullness will continue till Friday but we may reach 6 degrees by Thursday!!Really getting depressed by this weather and lack of sunshine and am ready for Spring.Models keep suggesting Wintry potential(ECM at 216) and GFS at 372 but they just do that to wind up cold lovers i think. If things had fallen rightly for UK this winter i really think we could be talking about one of the most severe winters for 30 odd years but it has just been a case of close but no cigar!!Roll on Spring now. P.S.See GB did it again in 90th minute against the Hammers!!COYS
  11. Sorry to hear of your loss JP.Hope it goes as well as these things can go God Bless
  12. Been bitterly cold here with a max of 2.2 recorded earlier today but now down to 0.7.Been pretty cloudy all day with light flurries on and off all day but nothing has settled.Looking at latest BBC forcasts i think that places like Tunbridge Wells and East and South may do ok tonight but i dont expect anything in this part of NW Kent(again!!)-Snow shield working again!!Think we have got another 2/3 days of about 2/3 degrees but very unlikely to get any snow here unless a Thames Streamer appears out of thin air!! Looks like staying cold most of next week but we may reach dizzy heights of 5 or 6 degrees by Wed/Thurs.As long as the wind dies down i don't care as working outside isn't alot of fun for me at the momentI love the snow but if it isn't going to happen in next 5 days i will be happy for some sun and warmer temps!!1(save a few bob on heating bills would be good as well!!)
  13. Stunning day again here today in Petts Wood/Locksbottom borders(that's 2 days on the trot now, that hasn't happened in 2013 so that's a first!)Max temp 7.7 degrees but now sun gone down temp dropping like a stone as already down to 4.3 degrees. Things certainly looking interesting for South East at end of the week and into weekend/early part of next week but we will just have to be patient and see what the models produce in next 48/72 hours as whenever the word snow is mentioned in the forecast the Met Office seem to be very cautious and seem to put disclaimers in their forecast as snow is never as easy to forecast as rain!!Hope this potential cold spell provides us all with more(in snow terms) than the previous spells in Jan and the other week(from an imby perspective)!!
  14. Well, just come from MOD thread and what a day it has been.Doom and gloom this morning, now it looks promising for this cold spell to potentially give SE snow(would love the Thames Streamer to get going later on in the week!!) from Thursday onwards.Still early days on that one and as per normal we will not know about ppn levels until 12 hours before the event. The good thing is we are in the ball game and the potential is well and truly there.Hope Winter goes out with a bang and then i will look forward to some nice warm sunshine from Mid-March onwards. Temp here today Maxed at 9.6 degrees and was really rather pleasent in the sun.Currently 2.4 degrees and now pretty chilly. If this Easterly does develop during the week it is going to feel bitter with High Windchills me thinks!!-Wrap up warm folks. P,S.-On a side issue a big thanks to SM who i hope will continue to post treads not only to Regional Thread but to MOD thread.I saw the "funny business" earlier on MOD thread. Please don't let a few people stop you posting.I only joined NW Forums in Nov 2012 and your posts are informative, simple to understand and show the passion you have for the UK weather and i have learnt an awful lot from your posts.I know i am speaking for vast vast majority so Thank you and keep on posting!!.P.S.S.In your opinion do you think NW Kent might get a direct hit from snow come Thurs onwards??
  15. After the early heavy rain which has now cleared the current bun is now out and temp has already reached 8.7 degrees here in Petts Wood/Locksbottom borders.Looks like a good 3/4 dry sunny days with temps peaking today at about 10 before slowly dropping during weekend with 6 more likely by Sunday.Still no change from models although GFS seems to be getting more isolated in its thinking. If latest ECM run is correct then i would say a fair chance of SE,part Kent,Essex,Suffolk and Sussex could be turning white but i will wait until what ALL models say come Sunday night before getting hopes up,as we all know they have been raised before only for things to go Pete Tong!!
  16. Amazing-We actually have sun here this morning for first time in about 5 days!Lovely morning, temp at 0.6 so nippy to say the least. As day goes on wind will pick up so will feel very cold this afternoon as front approaches from West.May see a few snowflakes mixed with rain befor milder air reaches us about 9pm.Just been on MOD thread and it seems as if it is another GFS v ECM battle, the latter suggesting High pressure building and moving NW as time goes on which will drag continental air in from Sunday whilst GFS has High pressure but with mild SW winds.Think UKMO is trending towards ECM as they have my area for Max of 6 degrees on Sunday with light SE winds.Hope they are right as this time next week there is the POTENTIAL we might be commencing another cold spell with snow another option!!.Interesting and sit tight everyone, could be lampost watching by next Thursday evening!!
  17. It's funny how the latest GFS run is completely different to ECM after say 120hrs and that leads me to a question that maybe someone can answer me.I have only been on this forum since end Oct 2012 but throughout this winter upto 144hrs i feel that UKMO has performed consistently well and imo has outperformed both GFS and ECM.In relation to this, would the UKMO consider going out to say 240hrs as the amount of new technology they have would surely allow them to do this, say on a trial basis.Sorry abit off topic but something that i have been thinking about last couple of months. Back to the models in short term and i think it is fascinating what the medium term future holds,i.e.dry,mild and settled, dry, cold and settled and lastly turning increasingly colder with chance of snow as month draws to a close. As has been said before,we wont know i feel till weekend so in the meantime i will sit back and enjoy this thread and the passion that we all have for the weather.
  18. Temp here 1.5 degrees in Petts Wood/Locksbottom borders, minimum last night only dropped to 0.4degrees so continuing thaw and think by late afternoon any remaining snow will be gone.Front passing through tomorrow will just give most of SE rain(maybe transient snow on places like Chilterns/North Downs) and then a few dry days with temps of 8-9 degrees so in any sun it should feel pleasent. If you want cold to return then there is POTENTIAL from latest ECM run with cold starting again from 19th FEB and getting progressively colder thereafter with increased snow risk for South East. However, that is a long way off and if by weekend other models join up with ECM's way of thinking then will be taking it seriously,at moment takeing it with pinch of salt as far too out to get excited!!Interesting though and be good to have another Snow meltdown on this forum again as its great fun!! Happy Pancake day by the way and looking forward to a large portion of them this evening-Yummo!!
  19. From my knowledge and the Latest run of the ECM,it looks like we may get a High pressure over Scandinavia developing which may draw in cold Easterly winds which in turn may bring in snow showers to the South East. One thing to bear in mind though is it is 8 days away so wouldn't take it as gospel. If this model and UKMO and GFS show this within a 72hour timescale then we may start getting excited again. That's my reading of it,hope that helps!
  20. Been snowing lightly with the odd moderate burst since about 7 this morning but as temp is 1.2 degrees the additional snowfall has been offset by the slight thaw.Took a drive upto Knockholt and it is stunning up there.Would guess they have between 7-9cms there while all we have in Petts Wood/Locksbottom borders is 3.5cms!!
  21. The models are just all over the place at the moment with no consistency.Yesterday it seemed that after mid-week milder blip it would turn colder again from weekend, this morning it seems it will get milder mid-week and stay mild for the next 10 days(GFS).one thing i have noticed is that although we have had Scandi High in right place for us a few times this winter there has never really been very cold air that has come with it or is that just me reading it wrong? Still dont think we are done with winter yet and think we will have one more cold spell(5-7 days) before 15th March.Indeed, aren't most models pointing to a below average March?Whatever happens,i have thouroughly enjoyed following the Models this winter and thank everyone on this forum for their knowledgable posts,i know i have learnt alot and although being a cold lover i feel the models have failed to deliver their potential on at least 3 occassions this winter,it has been fun following it all on NW.
  22. Went to bed after MOTD2 last night and we had a bit of wet snow on cars and roofs and that was it in petts Wood/Locksbottom borders.Woke up at 7 this morning and it was snowing and we have current depth of 3.5cms and as at 8.40am it is still snowing very lightly.Be interesting what Biggin Hill/Knockholt way have as i would expect with the elevation they will have double what i have got.Make the most of it though as think it will be pretty much gone by tomorrow!!
  23. To Jimmyh-Live in Petts wood/Locksbottom borders and just a little bit on tops of cars and a bit on roofs of houses and on grass.Stopped now.Think Knockholt will have a good covering, its all about the elevation and with them over 600ft asl they will have done pretty well i think.
  24. Temp down to 1.8 degrees here in Petts Wood/Locksbottom and pretty much all snow but not settling! However,if temp continues to drop after dark as it has done in last 1.5 hours things could get interesting tonight
  25. Temp dropped here to 2.5 degrees(a fall of 1 degree in just over 1 hour) and steady rain just turning to sleet. As The Gate has just reported elevation is key here(he is about 600ft ASL to my 280ft ASL) as he lives about 3-4 miles from me but he already has snow.Need that temp to keep dropping!!
