  1. Just checked my CCTV, the snow started at 8:40. Its been an hour and we've got 5cm already! More than any other day this winter
  2. Ok i got pretty bored of January this year, but this has to be one of the most interesting weather events.
  3. It is fascinating to think of. How quick it can go from washout to whiteout. The temperatures really amaze me, on how quick they plummeted
  4. Manchester got lucky this time, since we missed the last snowfall Leeds and Sheffield enjoyed last week.
  5. Who would've known that there would be floods in the morning and snow in the evening. Very surprised how quickly it changed from mild to cold
  6. Most amount of snowfall so far this winter, and its not even been an hour! Very reminiscent of December 2017 with huge flakes
  7. Very unexpected snowfall today. And looks like it will continue over here
  8. I am baffled right now. 3c temp, 2c 850hpa temp, Dew point at 2c and yet it is snowing with it accumulating in Manchester. Looks like 2cm has already accumulated in 20 minutes, even though in the morning it was 12c?? Does anyone know how this is possible.
  9. Went from having temps of 12c in the morning and now its snowing with it somehow sticking. the temperature went from 11c at 15:00 to 5c at 15:45. Crazy turn of events
  10. Snow depth starting to accumulate as soon as tonight in the north west and later on, the whole of the UK within 5 days. Great chart and not in Fl!
  11. Looks almost certain it will be mild in the final days of January and possibly trending colder in Feb. The cold interlude this week where -7 850hpa temps are showing up aren't rly being translated on the ground, looks about average temp wise. Fair to say this January had so much potential, just didn't come off in the way we wanted. Now it's February's time to shine! Saturday 23rd January: Tuesday 26th January: notice the pressure over Greenland
  12. Compared to last January, it's been much better. But as you say, yes the latter half of this month has been a disappointment and the CET will probably stall in the low 3s. I just hope, if there even is a chance we finish below 3. Last January CET in the 2s was in 1997. Maybe with corrections or a cold upcoming week, we could get there.
  13. this is probably gonna change at the end of the month, but for now ill put 3.5c and 45mm for February
  14. I'd say we got 3 days of mild weather ahead of us and possibly a stall in the CET or a slight decrease. Maybe we will get a drop at months end, looks very uncertain
  15. Impressive heights showing up on the 6Z. Lots of northern blocking about, just need them iberian heights to budge
  16. Looking at the outlook, it does look milder than average. Quite disappointing tbh since this month could've been the one with the -ve AO/NAO, appreciable amounts of northern blocking and the SSW. I guessed 2.9c as well, will take a lot to get near that figure by the looks of it. Just hoping for something better in Feb
  17. I doubt we will go above the 61-90 average for January. 2.5 to 3.0 will be the most likely outcome granted we get the cold last week including a downwards correction. However it does look very uncertain for the next 14 days so who knows we could end up close to average or considerably below.
  18. I think we are overdue a sub zero January, last time it happened was in 1979. Not saying it will happen but if the models play out in our favour with a bitterly cold end to the month, its possible. ngl i wouldn't rly mind a January in the 1s, that would be nice
  19. A February 1991 or 2018 would be nice to have, considering a sub zero CET is incredibly rare in todays climate, although not impossible.
  20. The cold started on Christmas with the odd flurry that day. From then it was cold, snowy and foggy for the next 15 days. Got an appreciable amount of snow on the 28th. Then again on the 31st, 2nd and 7th. Already that's more snow than the 2 preceding winters. A harsh frost on the 7th was noteworthy however, lows of -5 and didn't go above -1. First half of winter albeit quite mild on the 2nd week of December has been quite good.
  21. Those 850s are definitely trending colder with every run. The outlook sure does look very interesting
  22. models going for a cold mid month onwards, if that actually happens then a sub 2c month is possible
  23. it should go down to 1c at least by day 10. perhaps lower
