  1. I'll be 'twitching' before bed to check for any flakes falling alongside the rain. I'm hopeful I get a 5am wakeup call from my wife to take her to work
  2. Indeed. Fingers crossed those pesky temps drop a bit earlier as heavy rain is forecast all afternoon and evening.
  3. Either way, it increases chances of some white stuff... I'll get my coat (pun intended, hopefully will need it soon)
  4. It looks on the radar that the precipation that was heading south is on its way back up. Fingers crossed for a small drop in temps
  5. Bit of a disappointment after the excitement of 8am sadly. Rain in Whickham at 170m ASL. Looks like the thick band is too far south for us, over Sheffield area
  6. it looks like it could be turning to rain in Whickham now too, but we have a couple of inches on the ground currently.
  7. Sky is getting thick just north of us in Whickham. I wait with baited breath to see whether this will fall as rain, sleet or (wishful thinking) snow.
  8. yeah that sounds about right. I'm in Whickham, just down from Stanley, but i'm near the top. Whickham forecast is at 140m whereas I am at 170/175 so I tend to take an average of Whickham and Stanley forecasts. Fingers crossed for tonight
  9. The initial meto forecast was for heavy snow from Wednesday night to Thursday afternoon for me in Whickham. That's been dialed down to rain turning to sleet with the odd period of light snow. Nothing to get excited about there.
  10. And a bit of altitude. I live in Whickham where we had around 4" in total, around 170m ASL. At 5am I took my wife to work and, 1 mile away at around 130m ASL (top of Dunston Bank) there was a slushy covering. I'm pretty much bottom left of that map
  11. Looking at the radar, has the precipitation stalled just south of us? It seems to be swirling around just south west of me in Gateshead.
  12. I was in the green sleety zone all night further north but managed a good covering. Suppose it goes to show how marginal it was. 20 metres down and 1 mile away it was raining.
  13. I would say 6 inches in Whickham but my wife has told me to stop exaggerating the number of inches, it's 3 if I'm lucky apparently.
  14. Roads in and around Whickham are treacherous. There must be 3 or 4 inches now here. Raining just down the road in Dunston, A1 is fine.
  15. Had snow for around 45 minutes IN Whickham. Falling on wet ground so we're just seeing a covering on the roads now. Hopefully a good covering overnight, although no doubt I'll get dragged out at 5am to help the wife as she doesn't like driving in the wet stuff
  16. Absolutely nothing in Stanley but just drove the 5 mile (ish) to Consett for some fun with the kids. What a difference a few m of altitude makes.
