  1. Glad to hear you got a good view, Roger. Would love to see those pics, if you can post them later. Such a disappointment it clouded over here for the actual event. I was really hoping to capture the eclipse so I could compare it with last year's one I photographed. I stayed up until 3.45am but you could only barely make out a bright patch even in the odd cloud break. So I gave up and went to bed. Oh well, roll on 2015 or whenever the next one is! If you do post some that you took I will see if I can find one or two from last year to compare how the moon appeared both times. Cheers Peter
  2. Morning all A while since I have been on here. Too busy with work, and very late nights every day. Now that has eased off it's a struggle to stay away awake! It was clear here until about 1am, although somewhat misty. But as soon as the eclipse started the clouds rolled in. I did manage to get one or two shots of the moon with clouds before it completely disappeared. Here they are from about half an hour ago, although nothing to get excited about I'm afraid. If I can find one or two from last year I will post those as a comparison.
  3. Well done Slinky, and Louby Lou. Great pictures, both of them. Anyone know where I can get fitted for a bridesmaid's dress? Seems I am forever destined not to be the bride...!
  4. Welcome to NW, Oliboy A couple of nice entries there for the January competition. The first one shows good use of foreground interest in conjunction with the full moon, and the second one has some gorgeous colours. Photography is very subjective. Not everyone likes the same thing, as you will see from the voting in the competitions. But if you love taking pictures it will show through in what you take. And you don't need expensive kit, either. You just need a good eye for what to photograph and how to do it to show it off best. Seems to me you have made a pretty good start already. Keep taking those photos - and good luck. B)

  17. I spoke to a friend of mine in Shanghai on Windows Messenger ealier today. She said that the rain was so heavy that there had been a lot of flooding in the city and most businesses were closed and few people were at work. She is in a hotel with lots of guests, so staff there don't have the same luxury. With Wipha yet to make its impact fully felt, I think the effects could be quite extreme for Shanghai and the surrounding areas by the time it is finished. Some of the lovely water towns in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces could be very badly hit.
  18. Welcome, Maire. Some beautiful photos there. Very atmospheric. I look forward to seeing some more of your pictures in future. Just one thing, though. Could you add your exact location to your profile information, please? You can access it via the My Controls area. From the logo on the ship it looks like you live somewhere in the Great Lakes area. Also, are the photos you posted ones you took this month? They need to have been taken in September to qualify as entries for the monthly competition. Rich, if you use Outlook an easy way to resize pics is to highlight the ones you want, then from the File and Folder Tasks on the left of the folder window choose the E-mail this file option. Click on Show more options, and then the bottom option where it says Make my pictures this size. That automatically converts them to the maximum allowable size for NW competitions. When the email is created, just drag the pics into a different folder - as they will have the same name as the originals.
  19. I'm sure everyone has been eagerly anticipating the chance to vote for the August photos. Thanks again for the hard work, Shuggee, and apologies again for being part of the reason for the delay... :o You can have too much of a good thing however! Several photos in the weather section seem to be duplicated, including my three. While it's nice to have an extra chance of getting votes, you might want to delete the doubles! Some superb shots again this month. It isn't getting any easier to choose winners.
  20. Love the technical terms, GW. Now those I do understand! They sound more like drinks, though. I think I sank a few Floridean Blobs in Billy Bob's bar in Dallas. Whatever they were they went down a storm.
  21. Thanks for the explanation, OON. Seen those in Ann Summers and always wondered what they were for. Did it go off with a bang?
  22. Erm, no. Sorry  You'll have to give us a clue. This is all rocket science to me.
  23. Not just me on the naughty step then... Sorry too, Shugs. Promise to be good in future.
  24. OK, Shuggee If those two weather pics are ruled inadmissable, how about two from these substitutes? Not sure if they would be acceptable either but then I thought the original two were OK. Left to right in preferential order. So whichever one(s) are left once you have finished with your red pen! Thanks John
  25. Cheers Mammatus. Not the easiest of subjects I have ever photographed!
