  1. :o  What? You took your pants off to drive through the field?
  2. Tea for me. One sugar, please  Oh, you mean the picture? Yes, excellent stuff with a difficult subject in obviously low light conditions. I also like Phil B's river pic. There's so much action with the slow shutter speed blurring the water rushing over the rocks. It almost makes you feel you are there. The others are atmospheric and also very good, but those two are hard to capture well - and they have done just that. I take my hat off to both of you. At least I would do if I could find that smilie...
  3. Great to see one of my favourite areas getting snow at last. Nice atmospheric pictures there too, Nigel.
  4. I remember the 1987 winter being exceptionally cold here, but how would the winter of 1962/63 compare with that, Essan? I can't remember the dates but I think it was February some time. It was so frigid the Thames froze close to the beach at Southend. I remember it vividly, as my dad was a news cameraman and he got me and my brothers to clamber over the ice mounds and play in the snow drifts on the beach. Ahhh, those were the days...
  5. Snowing heavily here. Biggest flakes yet. If only it could have done it last night when it would have settled and stayed...
  6. Light shower of graupel about 30-40 minutes ago, and apparently 5-10 minutes of wet snowflakes just before noon. Other than that nothing. Rien. Zilch. Nada.
  7. Report on the severe ice storm hitting the US on the BBC website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6262533.stm Seems very severe, particularly in Missouri and Oklahoma, and is expected to hit the East Coast tomorrow.
  8. Whereabouts are you, Anakin? Can you add your exact location, which I guess is somewhere in Italy? Thanks
  9. Looks like you did it, Rich. Well done. A beautiful photo - but then they all were. Shame there were any losers.
  10. Tough choice. They all deserve it - can't we have them as joint winners? No, OK then, still no 3 for me. But only by a whisker.
  11. It has to be hemmy.jpg Very evocative and beautifully captured.
  12. A weather-related pic from the frosts last month...

    Swan

I love this shot of the swan. A very hard subject to get sharp, close-up - and you can even see the droplets of water on its head. Well done, Louby.
  14. That's 2% more than normal for them in that case!
  15. I think you've set the benchmark there, shadowcat!
  16. I use an easy programme called Pixresizer, Lady P. Just look it up on the internet. It's free to download and use.
  17. What a superb photo, Hemmy. I don't recall seeing that in the September photo competition. Did you not put it in for that, or did I miss it? The problem with having a competition for Weather Photo of the Year, or any type of photo of the year, is that people will naturally think they don't stand a chance and that theirs aren't good enough. But you never know unless you enter. And someone has to win! I haven't entered because I don't stand a chance and mine aren't good enough! At least not strictly weather ones. But I will have a trawl through to see if I can find one to upstage Hemmy's...
  18. Isn't it bad luck to take down the Christmas decorations before 12th night (ie January 5), Paul? Seriously, the site has been running very slowly for me over the last two or three days. It seems to take ages to load pages. I have never had that before, and do not have problems with any other sites. Is NW becoming a victim of its own popularity?
  19. Nice cloud formations and rich colour there, Zoe. I love PhilB's waterfall as well - nice capture of the flowing water with a slow shutter speed Edit: Sorry, Louby, I meant to add that your photo is fabulous too. If the house wasn't in the picture it could almost be a watercolour painting. The bird flying across the moon really makes it work.
  20. I've been in Calgary when a Chinook has come through, and if memory serves me rightly the temperature rose about 18C in less than a day. It went from mid-winter to a balmy spring day. Very weird to experience. What's the record temperature rise with a Chinook , Rich?
  21. Well done Potsy I gave you a run for your money there, and we were being chased hard by Mark, too. But a well deserved winner. I look forward to seeing it in the calendar next year.
  22. My last one for December. Unlikely to better my 2nd place in the November competition as some of this month's entries are superb, but you never know unless you try... Another frost pic Ps, Shuggee, can you use this version of one of the previous ones I entered, please? The earlier one pixellated a bit. Thanks
  23. I love MCT's rainbow, although the others are very good, too. Tough choice to make, yet again. It's quite exciting being a finalist, isn't it?
