  1. if you look at the mountain forecasts, they suggest the overnight period in large will see snowline around 400m, anywhere above 400m will see heavy snow, then as the day goes on tomorrow, the snowline will pull down to 200m, for heavy snow, before moving away. I think based on this; 0-100m will see rain, with perhaps some sleetiness at the highest end of this in favourable areas. 100-150m will see rain/sleet, with bits of snow mixed in towards 150m. 150m will see sleety snow, with wet snow occurring from around 170m upwards. From around 230m I suspect this snow will settle and above 300m there could be significant snow and settling.
  2. it sounds quite significant, and long lasting event, for higher areas, meanwhile, an absolute washout for areas below 150-200m
  3. Halkyn Mountain/Penmaenmawr/Great Orme might get a bit of sleet I guess
  4. Seems believable. I think were used to this by now.
  5. driving rain outside, gusty winds etc etc.. usually winter tale. Today was quite interesting, no snow in Heswall, however, Neston just down the road saw some sleet/snow for an hour or so this morning, none settled, but that shows what an unfavourable situation Heswall is actually in, perched on a hill isn't always wonderful, as it means in west wind, we're blasted with warm sea air and high dewpoints, yet lower down and in the shelter, Neston has lower dewpoints and thus snow. That's happened twice this year, and once last year, but the scenario last time was even more remarkable, as it was raining so no snow fell or lay here, yet in Neston way, and towards Chester, snow settled quite thickly.
  6. Raining here at points all day... light-moderate rain this morning with maybe the slightest hint of sleetiness, then this afternoon a band of heavy rain. Seems we are always caught in a mid-inversion layer, because lower ground has had better snowfall than here this year. Still the hunt goes on.
  7. Well that's some consolation, I suppose. ps I may be wrong but I think the Flintshire Hills, around Halkyn, and Holywell (Wales) may have a covering of snow, as a shower has just gone through there, and through the cloudy misty glare, a tinge of white, perhaps?
  8. Logic says it had to cycle back to cold, but who knows? I keep expecting winters to deliver some big cold event, but it never comes.. I often wonder how it's possible.. even sometimes we have decent synoptics, which could be capable of delivering cold and snow, but somehow they never do. I suspect the SST's have something to do with it, they must have been above average for some time now?
  9. seems we need at least -10C at 850 to deliver snow these days. We're in serious danger of becoming subtropical (I mean the rest of you are in danger of becoming subtropical, Wirral granted)
  10. I'm not sure, but it is implied here, here, being that this is Wirral.
  11. Boredom with a sprinkling of sarcasm, whisked in with a dollop of cynicism ;-) sorry Im tired ! :-(
  12. it must be bad if soup is the main topic of this here regional converosational
  13. Its unthinkable that Wirral may actually get snow, I think what we will get is hail and rain.. that's the usual story.
  14. Oh of note is that this morning I recorded the first air frost of the winter, but there was virtually no frost and no ice... It only went below 0C for 10 minutes. -0.3C was the low this morning.. typical moderately elevated coastal benign-ness
  15. You shouldn't be too downhearted as this very poor winter for you Midlanders is average par for the course here in Wirral every year. Just remember it could be much worse. Here we haven't even recorded an airfrost this Winter... Never mind snow
  16. The most typical things about it here in Barbados Wirral, is that not only is there no chance of snow, but the chance of frost and ice is zero too, because the wind will be off the sea.
  17. Even so, Wirral will still get a balmy breeze with rain !
  18. mix of rain and ice pellets, turned all to rain now, in fact it's stopped. Not as cold feeling.
  19. I can't believe it talk about stubborn temperatures.. Didn't go below 0.1C last night. What is that all about?
  20. 0.2C now shock horror, might record an airfrost within 30 minutes!
  21. I imagine Formby gets a good pronounced frost hollow effect, as the sand dunes are biggest around there/ainsdale.. I can imagine on the dunes themselves around -2 or -3 currently.
